Guest Access

Guests are welcome to use the kitchen for breakfast only. You may store food in the fridge, and make tea and coffee etc., throughout your stay, and I provide coffee (ground as well as instant) and tea (regular as well as various herbal teas). In the afternoons and evenings, the kitchen is a family space, and not suitable for guests to cook or hang out.

Interaction with Guests

This is my home, and I work a four-day week job, Monday to Thursday. I always try to be available to meet my guests on arrival, and if I am not available, I will make sure you are properly welcomed by a very nice person! You will have plenty of privacy at my home, but be able to avail of a friendly helping hand to offer advice on any aspect of your visit. I know Dublin City like the back of my hand! I am able to be especially helpful to any guests interested in Art, and who would like to visit galleries in Dublin, and have a fair sense of the music scene too.

The Neighborhood

You will have all that Dublin has to offer nearby when you stay with me, with excellent public transport, or the choice to take a 20-minute walk into the city for those who are so inclined. This means you have access to the hundreds of restaurants, cafes, galleries, theatres, music venues and shops Dublin city provides.

In the other direction from the City Centre is a large park with a playground. Further along is Dublin Bay with safe walking and cycle paths leading to the beach. You can take a bus to the beach if you prefer, and it is about 15 minutes away. There are more beaches further along this coastline, and some beautiful harbour villages and stunning cliff walks – all within a short distance from my home.

The North Strand area itself is an old settled neighbourhood of narrow streets with quaint terraced cottages. It is a very quiet and unpretentious part of Dublin city, and Strandville Avenue consists mainly of owner-occupiers, many of whom have lived on the street for decades.

Getting Around

The house is close to all public transport systems, including the AirLink bus. Nearby are trains, trams and buses for travel within the city, or to any other parts of Ireland. There is free on-street parking.

Other Things to Note

On confirmation all guest receive a 1000 word document with lots of hints and tips, including the best way to get to the house from the airport. For those who are friends of Bill & Bob, I will provide all the information they need in the Dublin area and beyond.

House Rules

- NOISE AT NIGHT: The house gets super-quiet at night, so loud talking etc. will disturb other people, as will late-night showering
- USING THE KITCHEN: The kitchen is for breakfast use only, and for preparing snacks – tea, coffee. In the afternoons and evenings, the kitchen is a family space, and not suitable for guests to cook or hang out
- UTILITY FEE: I prefer not charge a utility fee, as it sneaks the price up a bit high, so please remember that hot water is very expensive in Ireland, and we tend to have shorter showers than our European and US counterparts!
- CLEANING FEE: For the same reason, I don't charge a cleaning fee. I ask guests to leave the room and bathroom clean, especially to clean up hair from the shower and sink
- SECURITY: If you open a window, or unlock an door to the garden, please remember to close and lock them again before leaving the house
- No pets
- No smoking

NB: Guests are asked to be considerate and not make loud noise or talk loudly after 11pm, as it does prevent others in the house from sleeping, and can cause distress.
