A bright and airy double room in a cosy red-brick terraced house on a quiet street in the centre of historic Portobello, Dublin. A few minutes from the bustling Camden street area and only a short stroll into the centre of Dublin.
This is a bright and airy double room in a cosy red-brick terraced house on a quiet street in the centre of Portobello, Dublin. The two windows look out over trees and gardens, and have black-out roller blinds. There is a large bathroom next door with fireplace and bath, and wardrobe space on the landing.
The ground floor has a living room, also with a working fireplace, a large kitchen / dining area and a light-filled home office leading to a south-facing patio lined with old ivy.
The house is one street away from the beautiful, tree-lined Grand Canal. There are plenty of great cafes, pubs and restaurants nearby, ranging from cheap and cheerful ethnic cafes to the Michelin-starred Locks restaurant just around the corner. A 15-minute stroll brings you into the centre of Dublin via the vibrant area of Camden Street. We are convenient to museums, galleries and the main shopping areas. There is a Dublin Bike station at the end of the street, and the area is very well served by buses (including the 16, which goes to the airport) and the Green Luas (tram) line. I recommend Le Cool Dublin as one of the best online guides to the delights of the city.
Freshly laundered sheets, towels and soap are provided for each guest. All guests are welcome to use the kitchen/dining area, TV, washing machine, broadband wifi and can avail of a free-of-charge Dublin Bike card for the duration of their stay. This is an LGBT friendly house.
Guests have access to the whole house apart from the office and second bedroom, where I stay.
Interaction with Guests
I leave each guest to have their own space as much as they require.
Portobello is a lovely, quiet area filled with Victorian housing and bounded by the Grand Canal to the South. There are plenty of great pubs, cafes and restaurants and it's really easy to get into the centre of Dublin ( 15 minute stroll, 5 minutes on the bus)
The house is about 30 minutes from the airport by taxi, depending on the time of day, and the fare will be around €25/30. Alternatively the Air Coach express bus travels every 20 minutes to the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel on Burlington Road ( tickets €8 one-way) where you can jump in a taxi for the rest of the journey (fare aprox. €8/10) or walk for about twelve minutes up the canal. The number 16 bus takes about an hour from the airport to the South Circular Road, Longwood Avenue, Stop 1289, about 300 metres away from the house. On the other side of the street is the South Circular Road, Carlisle Street, Stop 1349 which is well served by four bus routes that take 5 minutes to get to the centre of Dublin.
I recommend downloading the free My Dublin smartphone app, which shows real-time bus information. The Green Luas ( tram) line is five minutes away, and serves South Dublin. There is a Dublin Bikes station at the end of the street, and I have a card available for guests to use.

I loved Conor's townhouse! I found it full of character and charm, and it sits just off the lovely Grand Canal full of floating, sometimes conversant swans. The bedroom has abundant space and light. The bed is comfortable, the view from the bathroom compelling. The Portobello neighborhood is quiet, prepossessing. All was ideal.
I felt immediately at home in Conor's comfortable and tastefully decorated house in Portobello, a residential neighbourhood that is within easy reach of all the major sights. He was an excellent host and always made sure I had everything I needed. I would happily stay here again.
This is an incredible house! Very charming, neat and beautifully decorated. The location is perfect, easily within walking distance of all attractions, and on a very quiet, safe street. Did not have the chance to meet Conor as he was on holiday, but the cleaning woman I met upon arrival was so welcoming and nice! Would stay here again!
We knew that Conor would be away when we arrived, so we didn't get a chance to meet him. The house is well located in Portobello, the bedroom a good size and bright, with no house across the street it is private. Unfortunately the house needs a bit of TLC. Door handles fell off, the bathroom ceiling is heavily stained and the courtyard would be great once the jungle is tamed. A few notes would have helped (e.g that some of the food in the little fridge was left for us. We - and the other house guest - assumed it was all Conor's personal things. That left almost no space for us and the other guest)
Best wishes, Conor
Conor was extremely welcoming and had lots of great tips on where to go in Dublin and beyond. I loved the house and the room I stayed in. The house is a great base for exploring the city too. It's well located, within walking distance of places to eat and drink. I really enjoyed the stay and think it enhanced my experience of Dublin.
Conor was friendly and welcoming, and gave us our own space. The house is in a great location and was good value for money. Conor's cafe recommendations were great.
