The Les Miserable:

This little piece of charm is your own private sunny delight, and is tastefully decorated with subtle hints of Oakland. It comes fully equipped with a brand new, hand built tufted headboard, a brand new full sized bed, fluffy pillows, Egyptian cotton sheets, and desk made out of redwood for your study/ work/ etc. We felt it prudent to also supply your room with a mini fridge, internet access, a TV and dvd player, a coffee maker, and locally produced Blue Bottle Coffee in order to make things for you that much easier. There's even space in the room for you to do a cartwheel, if that's what you feel like doing. ( See! We really did think of everything). In the winter, the radiator does a wonderful job of keeping the room nice and toasty and in the summer, the house stays at a cool 65 degrees. Honestly, it's a great place to sleep, work, study, create art, or do whatever it is you feel like doing...

The kitchen, to which you will have full access, is a Chef's dream, and comes stocked with almost any cooking utensil one can imagine ( I even have a tangine), a good amount of counter space, and a lovely gas stove. If you find yourself up for it, I am a professional chef and I would be happy to prepare a Saturday morning breakfast/ brunch for you and yours---mums the word.

The bathroom is a cute spacious alleyway bathroom and comes complete with a shower and tub. It is shared, but is thoroughly cleaned on a daily basis.

The living room is the perfect place to sit and relax, while basking in the sunlight, as there is a record player and a plethora of books to entertain while you lounge. If those aren't your "thang" then feel free to turn on the tube, and catch your favorite show, play a game of Old School Super Mario World on our SNES or watch a movie on our Netlfix account. The room is a throwback to all things mid-century as it is wonderfully decorated with legitimate Eames Era pieces.

The apartment was built in the 1920's and has hardwood floors, spanish tile, crown moulding, and very high ceilings throughout.

There is a coin operated laundry room in the building, and it costs 2.00 total for a full load. ( Wash and dry).

The Location:

The room itself is located in the happenings of Temescal and is two blocks away from BART (our public transportation), which provides a 15-minute ride into San Francisco, a 5-minute ride into Berkeley and a 5 minute ride into Downtown Oakland. In either direction, we are 5 short walking blocks away from either Piedmont Ave (Commis, Adesso, and Fenton's Creamery) or the Gourmet Ghetto of Telegraph Ave (Pizzaiolo, Bakesale Betty's, Dona Tomas, and Burma Superstar) and a 7 minute drive to either Lake Merritt, Emeryville or a quick bike ride to Olmsted Cemetery.

The Hosts:
My brother has moved on to do boy things, so it's just me, now. I am a chef by day, and I hail from Oakland, but have dabbled in North Carolina---naturally, this means I am chocked full of southern hospitality. More importantly, I love The Bay Area, and whether this is your first time or your millionth time here, I want to help you feel welcomed.

  • Amanda was a great host! Not only does she know the area extremely well, she offered some great points to consider about the different apts we were considering.

She was only just setting up her new place for hosting, but already had taken a lot of care in making my experience pleasant so I can only imagine it will get better.

  • Responsive and courteous booking. Clean and sweet accommodations. This was an overnight for business, so the coffee and wifi were key.

  • I whole-heartedly recommend Amanda's. I felt like I was visiting a friend's, who just so happens to be a fantastic cook, knowledgable host, and warming presence. I slept like a baby on the queen sized bed, easily navigated the fully functional kitchen, and felt at ease in the spaciously mod living room. The location is central to boot, a short walk to Macarthur BART, as well as the Temescal and Piedmont corridors.

  • Amanda is an amazing host. She made my stay in Oakland comfortable, cozy, and fun! Amanda's food, book, and design sensibilities are incredible and I'm so happy to say I've found a fabulous and inspiring new friend! Amanda's place is in the heart of Temescal. I was able to explore the area with ease and I enjoyed getting to know Amanda and learning about the beauty of Oakland from her. I'm excited to stay with her again! PS. The bed is suppppper soft and inviting. I slept like a baby.

  • Had an excellent stay at Amanda's and highly recommend it to all fellow travellers. It was the first time that I had done a shared apartment experience on air bnb and never once did I feel uncomfortable being in her space. The actual room was spacious, the bed comfy, and there was also a larger living room and kitchen to enjoy if you are so inclined and have the time. The location of the apartment is perfect, only a couple of blocks from Telegraph where there are some amazing restaurants, and the Macarthur BART station is right there as well to get to both San Francisco and Berkeley with ease. Overall staying at her apartment was a great way to enjoy what East Bay has to offer at a very affordable price.
