Spacious high-ceilinged double bedroom in a Georgian townhouse in a quiet city centre cul-de-sac; the many pubs, cafés, restaurants, coffee shops and The Everyman theatre on MacCurtain Street are just five minutes walk away. The four-storey period house was built in 1820 and has spectacular views of the city and river; the guest room looks out on the back garden and a small woodland beyond. The stylish ensuite bedroom is on the first floor at the rear of the house, and has a comfortable five-foot kingsize bed with good quality bed linen; the only other room on the floor is the elegant living room, which has deep sofas, an open fire, well-stocked bookshelves, and tall windows – perfect for relaxing after a busy day’s sightseeing. Guests can also enjoy the private mature front garden across from the house, which has a seating area that is ideal for a morning tea or coffee. Breakfasts include fresh fruit and juices, homemade granola and marmalade, and free-range eggs, and are served in the large ground floor kitchen-dining room area. Free wi-fi is available throughout the house; a notebook computer is provided in the bedroom, as are a hairdryer and bottles of filtered water.
Guests have access to the first two floors of the house....which includes living room, kitchen and gardens. Our bedrooms and bathroom are the floor above....so both parties have plenty of privacy.
Interaction with Guests
We are happy to give advice and direction about the many things to do and see in the city; we have guides, tourist information, and we’ve produced our own guide to the Best of Cork, which we can email to you in advance.
As well as being close to all the attractions of the city centre, the house is just a few minutes walk from St Luke’s Cross, with its post office, pharmacy, artisan food store, wine bar, and one of Cork’s finest and most friendly pubs, Henchy’s, which often has live music at the weekends.
We tend to walk everywhere in the city; it’s one of the best things about being in Cork. However, the bus stop for the city centre is close by, the main train and bus stations are 10 minutes’ walk away, and trips to the airport take around 15 minutes by taxi.
Other Things to Note
Apart from the charm of this period property one of the best things about it is its proximity to the city centre, making it extremely convenient.
However it is also in a quiet cul de sac so very tranquil considering its central location.
No smoking in the house (though there is a small open courtyard next to the kitchen where you can smoke). You are welcome to have tea or coffee at any time. Please let us know your arrival time at least one day ahead; it helps us better plan your stay and, if you’re travelling by car, arrange free on-street parking. The main thing is that you feel at home and enjoy your visit to Cork.
One word: excellent! Jacqueline and Philip are magnificent hosts. Their wonderful house is uphill and has wonderful views over the city. The room, bathroom and living room are spacious and impeccably clean. We enjoyed many chats and lively conversations and felt welcome right from the start. They were helpful all along the way and provided us with great tipps where to go and what to do. The breakfast is beyond words... We would have loved to stay longer and would come back any time!
I've just had another wonderful stay with Jacqueline and Phillip who are magnificent hosts. The rooms are perfect. Big, comfortable and impeccably clean. Topping all this off is a heavenly breakfast. Freshly squeezed orange juice every day with home made granola with fruit from the garden. A+++
We were warmly greeted by Phillip, shown our lovely bedroom and then had a coffee and a chat in the beautiful sitting room which we were told we could use if we wanted to relax. Jacqueline had kindly booked us a table at a restaurant and we were given a map and advice on where to go for a pub with authentic Irish music. It was spot on and we had a great evening. We met Jacqueline on our return and she was as warm and friendly as Phillip and we felt completely relaxed in their home and in their company. Breakfast was wonderful, fresh fruit salad, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon and proper coffee. Jacqueline gave us some very helpful advice on what to see and do in Cork and we felt treated as friends rather than guests. This was our first experience of airbnb and we can highly recommend it. Why stay in a bland hotel room when you can enjoy an artist's house, full of interesting paintings, books and ceramics and be as comfortable as you are at home. Thank you Jacqueline and Phillip.
Jacqueline est bien accueillante et le B&B est bien situé, très propre, 10 minutes à pied pour le centre-ville.
Jacquie is the absolute best. If she lived in the US we would be real friends. Her home is amazing, her breakfast is divine and she knows everything you can imagine about Cork. I was so sad to leave :( Additionally, I am recommending her for HGTV because her decorating style is off the charts.
Excellent access to central Cork! Jacqueline and Phil were most welcoming and extremely helpful recommending sites and restaurants in the area. The accommodations were very comfortable, we especially liked the adjoining room to relax after a long day of touring!
Jacqueline and Philip were incredible hosts to Canadians far away from home. We stayed in an amazing bedroom, full of books and perfect decor, and we had an extra sitting room that suited our needs as we wanted a 'space' to relax. A perfect breakfast was served every morning with coffee and were were given loads of information and recommendations on what to do in Cork. I cannot boast enough about this space-incredible location, fabulous hosts, wonderful city. Thank you, thank you thank you!
