A rural setting on the edge of Salem. Because of the tall trees and surrounding acreage, civilization seems far away. Easy access from I-5, plenty of restaurants nearby, as well as larger stores and food markets. We are one hour south of Portland, one hour east of the coast, one hour west of Cascades, one hour north of Eugene.
5 miles south of downtown Salem. City bus stop 1/4 mile away.
Other Things to Note
Gravel driveway, no covered parking. Lucy is a lab-mix, and friendly; Milo is a grey Manx cat, friendly and curious.
No smoking. Cynthia is asthmatic.
Small pets may be allowed; please ask first.
Check-in after 2pm; check-out by noon, although we can be flexible.
Drive slowly on property; animals present.
Even though I arrived late in the evening, Cynthia and Jay and their friendly dog and cat were waiting to greet me and help me to feel right at home. The heat (and glowing light) coming from the lit stove made the room extra cozy. I wish I had had more time to stay and chat the next morning, since the the sun was up, the birds were singing, and my hosts went out of their way to say goodbye. Thanks to you both, and if I am in the area again, I hope to have more time to "sit a spell" and enjoy your company. : )
My husband and I had a great time staying at Jay and Cynthia's studio. It was quiet, cozy, clean, and comfortable. Their land is peaceful and beautiful as well. Cynthia and Jay are wonderful people, Jay even helped fix something on our travel trailer. We had a great, relaxing week and if we are ever passing through Salem again we would definitely stay here again.
Warm, friendly, cozy, and clean. The mother-in-law type studio was secure and Jay and Cynthia are thoughtful hosts. We enjoyed a tour of the grounds and friendly conversation; we even got to borrow Milo the cat for the night! If you need a place in Salem, this one is recommended.
I liked staying in this quiet location. Birds singing in the morning! Beautiful yard in a convenient location (for me anyway). Very nice studio apartment, great bargain!
Retreat is the right word.
I had a lovely stay at the Herrons' place. The setting was peaceful, the apt was as described: private, clean, warm, spacious and well-equipped. What I had forgotten from the description was the cozy gas-fireplace with a window to see the flames. Both Jay and Cynthia provided a warm welcome and were very reachable.
We am so glad we stayed here. We had to get there late and they were very understanding about everything. They provided basic amenities like coffee, soap, laundry detergent. The room was cozy without being too crowded.
Thanks again for another restful stay! I'll be returning in the summer months.
