I'd love to welcome you, give you tips on what to see. My home is centrally located, very Roman few tourists, and is well connected w transport, shopping and more. Oh if you love cats, Pepe will LOVE you! My only rule is no kidnapping allowed!

The Space

Relax and enjoy this cozy room in a truly lovely apartment which I describe as 1950s old style quirky authentic Roman appartment! It's located on a quiet private street, off via Magna Grecia and is 5 minutes walk from the Basilica San Giovanni, 20 minute (stroll) walk to the Colosseum and the Forum, a 15 bus ride into the historical centre (Piazza Navona) traffic permitting and it's on the direct line to the Vatican and Vatican Museums which is about a 10 minutes ride (metro A, red line)

The Metro San Giovanni is less than 5 minutes walk and it's very well connected incl. buses, (phone number hidden) that will take you to the historical centre in less than 20 minutes. Tram 3 takes you to the heart of Trastevere, the Soho of Rome where you'll find lots of quirky bars and beautiful boutique shops.

The San Giovanni neighborhood offers several shops, bars, Italian and ethnic restaurants, big supermarkets and 2 cinemas. On the corner of via Faleria and my street, or my building are two gems: the first is a cheap and chearful tiny café on the corner of my house where they offer a breakfast menu (cappuccino and cornetto and when you stay with me, this is included) and the second is a busy Italian steak house called Shooters where they also have delicious pizzas, pastas and salads. Across the road on the other side of Via Magna Grecia there are three restaurants side by side (fish, meat and pizza, respectively). You can either eat there as other guests have done and loved it, or you can take away and bring it to the apartment and eat here.

Down the road on via Faleria, you'll find a Japanese restaurant which is really good and near the metro Re di Roma, there's a upmarket but absolutely delicious Indian restaurant called Bombay. On Via Magna Grecia (really near the metro San Giovanni) are lots of cafeterias, bar Nevada has free internet for its customers with scrumptious coffee and one place to try out is RivaReno near the metro stop San Giovanni, where they serve ice creams with a twist: all the ingredients are natural and the taste is to die for! On via Albalonga, about a 7 minute walk, you'll find the cafeteria, Pompi which has the best Tiramisu in Italy - the tiramisu come in the traditional (coffee) flavour as well as with pistacios, strawberry and banana for the more adventurous pallets! It's very filling in more ways than one (if you know what I mean) so over-indulge at your own risk!

The apartment itself is bright, cool, furnished apartment, 100m2, 5th floor with lift/elevator, parquet floor, American style kitchen (with marble surface), dining room, living room, one large bathroom (shared with me), small balcony, all mod cons and 24h internet wifi.
If you just want to relax, you'll enjoy your bedroom which is really quiet and has a comfortable double bed. Everyone says they sleep like a baby in it. The cozy room is fully furnished with two wardrobes, nightstand and 2 lamps and overlooks a quiet internal courtyard. You'll find the bed to be super comfortable and the room is silent while being so close to the main road. In the summer, I give you a small (but powerful) fan to keep in your room. In the winter, you'll feel really warm as the heating is centralised.

Guests can make use of the balcony where you can sit & enjoy the sunset, a cooking corner with breakfast and possibility to cook a light meal for lunch or dinner.

***Use of the washing machine is 5 euro (unless you are staying for one week or longer).***

Breakfast IS Included - Roman style!
Have breakfast like the Romans do - in a small cafeteria just outside my house - enjoy a cappuccino, cornetto and freshly squeezed orange juice. This offer is available to you from 7.30am to 11.30am.

There is FREE 24 hour wi-fi in the house - and I'll give you the password as soon as you get here.

The house is a quiet oasis within a busy 'happenin' area. This is a very Roman area, so don't be surprised if you don't see many tourists - this is where the Romans live! It is the BEST area that's connected with Trams (to Trastevere), 7 bus lines, train station (Tuscolana) and the metro (red line) and a taxi pod just up the road. So you can get anywhere in Rome, FAST!

The washing machine is available to anyone staying for 1 week or more and there is a charge of 5 euro use and the clothes dry in the house (usually within 24 hours).

We share a large bathroom with bath/shower and bidet.

All bed linen and towels are provided. Hair dryer, iron and ironing board are available. A free map of Rome and guide books are in the room. You can take them with you as you explore the city - I would just ask you to leave them back in the room for the next guest.

As the weather this year has been quite chilly - there has been no need for fans or air conditioning. I am putting in an air conditioning system in the house at the end of June so that if the hot weather finally hits Rome, you'll be very comfortable and chilled here.

Due to the setting of the apartment, I cannot host the following:

* Very pregnant women
* Families (the room is more of a love nest!)
* People in wheel-chairs (there are too many steps to get to the elevator and my bathroom is not equipped)

I respect the privacy of all my guests, as my privacy is very important to me so every effort is made to make their stay as comfortable, fun and welcoming as possible.

If you are a couple and staying for more than five nights in Rome, ask me and I'll make you a special offer. :-)

By the way, if you are allergic to cats this listing is not suitable for you.

However, you don't like cats, you may well 'fall' for Pepe who has charmed more than a few non-cat lovers who were surprised at how much they enjoyed Pepe's antics and more than one called him a 'puppy in feline clothing' (not sure if Pepe would consider that a compliment but it's pretty accurate): my clean (at least he thinks he is) and star-attraction male 'tiger' who loves to play with anyone who pays him any iota of attention.

I've been extremely fortunate to have really great people stay at my house so if you have any questions at all or special needs, either about my house or about Rome, please feel free to drop me a line and I'll do my best to help you out.

Interaction with Guests

How much interaction depends on you - I love to chat in the evenings about how the day went and I am available during the weekends to show you around and I also very much respect the privacy of my guests. If you are tired and just want to get to bed, I really understand (I'll also explain it to my cat who doesn't understand the meaning of privacy!).

  • Sila is such a wonderful host, friendly and flexible. Her flat is well situated near the amazing church of Sant Giovanni, you can even walk to the Colosseum from there. But there are also busses and the metro to reach every important sight very easily. Sile gave me a lot of recommendations regarding the best food places and sights to visit, she even brought me to a cool women's event on the top of the roofs (amazing view!!!), where I met a lot of interesting people from Rome and other parts of the world. We had some really good conversations. Thank you, Sile, for a great time!!!

  • Sile and Pepe were fantastic hosts. I was in Rome for 2 weeks for an academic conference and they made me feel right at home. The apartment is very centrally located to both metro and buses. The neighborhood itself is off the beaten tourist trail and filled with many delightful shops and restaurants- Sile had great recommendations. Her flat is clean, light, and airy. Sile was a friendly and knowledgeable host. And if you are a cat lover, Pepe will steal your heart. I would definitely stay with them again!

  • Sile is a fantastic host! She always made sure everything was going well during my stay and genuinely wanted to know how my day went. She's very knowledgeable and can recommend what to do and see if you don't have a plan. Her space is very clean and well kept too. Pepe, the cat is very personable as well. Overall if I had to do it again, I would definitely stay with Sile!

  • Our four night stay with Sile was wonderful. After 3 1/2 weeks traveling in rural Italy, it was like reaching an ANGLO oasis!! She offered a lot of helpful advice on touring Rome, eateries, and her apt. is close enough to walk to a lot of great sites.
The room was comfortable, quiet at night, (a hugh plus in Rome!) and Pepi was a delightful 'creature comfort'.
Don't miss San Clemente (which we would have, not for Sile)!
She also arranged a taxi for our early morning FCU departure which was most appreciated.

  • Photos do not match the description, very dirty wool from the cat everywhere, dirty dishes, no light in the room, broken shelves cabinet, barred windows. I do not recommend to stay. We left immediately the next day.

    Response from Sile:

Although I am sure this couple is very nice, they had a disliking to my home mainly due to the fact that they probably did not read my listing carefully. Pepe the cat is clearly written in the description and visible from the pictures. Alexey's allergy to cats understandably made his stay uncomfortable, however, I was only made aware of it the next day. The photos have been taken by Airbnb. They arrived at lunch time, my lunch plates were in the sink later to be joined with their coffee cups. After work I washed my dishes and theirs. The lights and wardrobe are fully functional. As I live on the 5th floor, the barred windows are for everyone's safety and the majority of Italian homes fortunately have them. I have a cleaner that comes twice a week. On departure Alexey said they were going to a hotel. I do feel they are more suitable to this solution than the Airbnb 'home community'.

  • Sile is a hospitable host that knows Rome well. She gave me recommendations of what sites to visit and where to eat. I definitely felt at home. Sile even invited me to an Italian theatre show and bootcamp jog in the heart of Rome! Unfortunately I already had plans but that was quite a heartwarming welcome! It's a 3 minute walk from the San Giovanni metro station, which makes the apartment extremely convenient. I recommend Sile's apartment to anyone who wanted to visit Rome.

  • I immediately felt at home when I arrived at Sile's place. I was greeted by a genuine, warm and friendly smile and she helped me when needed during my stay in Rome. Thank you Sile!
The apartment is clean and easy to find, either by underground or by walking. Sile has always responded quickly to email so the booking was very easy to make.

I hope to return some day and I would definitively recommend Sile.

  • My fiancee and I very much enjoyed staying at Sile's place. The apartment is very bright and spacious, with a lovely balcony. The room we stayed in was clean & cozy, just the thing two of us were looking for. The bed is comfortable and there's a large window in the room, with a view away from the street so there's no noise. The building is also very well positioned, central, but just enough away from the busy roads so there's no noise. We used to walk to the city center almost every day of our stay. Metro is also just around the corner, a few minutes walk. The whole neighborhood is very pleasant and quiet.
Sile was very friendly and nice to us, she even waited up for us, since our flight was delayed a bit, so we ended up arriving quite late. She makes the best coffee, and we both enjoyed being her guests. It felt like we were staying at a friend's house rather than renting the room. The included breakfast in the nearby coffee shop sounded generic to us before arrival, but we ended up being quite nicely surprised by the quality of it! It was very delicious and pleasing to start each day with it.
Pepe is quite a charmer, he used to "talk" to me all the time. :)
If we ever come back to Rome, we're planning on contacting Sile for the accommodation again.

  • Me and my girlfriend were at Sile place for a week and we had nice time there. The place is on very good location, very close to subway. Peaceful and quiet neighborhood. We had breakfast in nice small cafeteria Aurelio with very pleasant staff. Sile is very nice host, she even wait until after midnight for us to arrive there. Room is not very big, but is comfortable enough for two person.
Anyway, Sile is very nice person, willing to help with all information and hints about the Rome and the whole time we didn't felt like guests and tourist, we felt like we are Sile's friends for a long. If you looking for a place for a sleep while you in the Rome and do not need hotels with many stars then Sile's place is perfect choice.

Sile I want to say thank you to the great time, yours advices, and talk!
I hope come back to Rome and stay with you again!
    Cheers!

About
I'm half Irish half -Italian, born in Rome and bred in Dublin. I speak five languages (Italian, English, Spanish, French and rusty Chinese). I work in a import-export company started by my friends and really love it. I've been living in Rome for the past 11 years and am pretty knowledgeable on the city. Guests have told me that having an English speaker that's fluent in Italian and who knows Rome well, makes for a very comfortable stay. I also work from home so that's an advantage if you are arriving in the middle of the day. My schedule varies greatly so you'll never know when you'll see me(!) and in the evening I'm more than happy to help you out on any questions regarding what to see and where to go eat. I'm an avid reader and love buying good books signed by the author. I am addicted to tango, chocolate, organic food and Pepe (my terrific tiger). I've recently started to explore raw food which I never realised was so tasty! I'd describe myself as friendly, laid back (but not lazy), clean, tidy and respectful and I'd like to think that I would attract similar people into my home. Pepe on the otherhand, is not that tidy and he thinks he is clean. Cats!
