Getting around

Dar Sondos is well located near a main access road . It easy to find and no problem to come back late at night.
it is in the Rcif area of the ancient city of Fes. Though the house is only accesible by foot through the narrow alleyways typical of the old city, it is only 2mins walk to parking and public transport facilities. The famous medieval Al Qarawayyin University is 10m mins walk away. The As-Sefferine artisan area [copperbeaters] is only 7 mins walk away, the famous ancient Fes tannieries are also close by as well as the famous Moulay Idris Mausoleum.

Overall was a pretty good stay. Was unsure who host was, seemed a bit unclear. Room had a really damp smell, but overall alright for travelling budget

Loved it! A beautiful, classic old Moroccan home in the heart of the Medina. The rooftop terrace has one of the best views in town. Would definitely stay again!

Amal and his staff were very kind and helpful. They were always at our disposal. They had laundry service which was very convenient and fairly priced at 5€. Mint tea whenever we asked. A decent patio area upstairs with a view. Unfortunately the first room we were in had some serious issues with air circulation, very damp and mildews. Even the sheets and towels felt damp and the outside walls paint was flaking off. It was difficult not to rub up against the wall when getting into the bed and every time I had to brush the paint off of my clothes. It was clean, but the smell was overwhelming. It was my fault for not saying something right away, after the second night I complained and Amal was very sorry but the other rooms were booked and could not move us until the last night we were there. The final room was much drier and cleaner. The location was very good. We would have enjoyed our stay more if the room had not been as it was. Breakfast was ok...4 different types of bread, butter jam, syrup, coffee or tea. I think it would be better if they just had two types of bread and maybe some fruit.

Our stay with Mouanis at Dar Sondos was a highlight in Morocco! Our room was clean, had air conditioning, a nice big bed for two and a private bathroom with plenty of hot water. We were very comfortable sleeping there. The Riad itself was great and had a rooftop with a good view of the city. Mouanis was a gentleman and did everything he could to make our stay comfortable. He arranged drivers and tour guides with good prices and suggested places to eat and sights to see. Miriam was sweet and prepared us a lovely breakfast every day. We were well looked after and felt very spoiled haha. Now we are comparing all our places we stay to Dar Sondos. Thank you Mouanis and Miriam! Also thanks to our guide Mohammed and driver Samir! You made a couple of lost Canadians feel right at home.

This is one of the best places to stay in Fes if you are interested in a traditional house in the medina. As experienced travelers, we found Dar Sondos to offer much, much better value for the price than staying in a palace hotel or more "luxurious" riad. The location is central to the old medina and if you have a bit of directional ability, you can easily walk to the Talaa Kabira after Mariam (Mouanis's assistant) shows you the way once or twice. The house has everything you need - a comfortable bed, excellent hot shower, air conditioning unit that worked like a charm, and access to the lovely roof terrace. Mariam offered a very warm and professional welcome, tailored the breakfast menu to our preferences, and helped with whatever questions we had. Laundry was provided at 50dh per load, a very reasonable price and sorely needed after a week on the road! Mouanis's renovations to the house - the fine plaster work and painted wood ceilings, especially - are beautiful. Our only caveat would be to know that you'll be surrounded by the normal city noises of Fes - the call to prayer over loudspeakers, and the neighborhood kids playing in the medina until quite late at night (by U.S. standards). And maybe a few roosters crowing. Hey, that's why you came to Morocco :)

We had a pleasant stay in riad Dar sondos. Excellent location in a quiet area within the old town. Clean room and bathroom, delicious and abundant breakfast on the sunny terrace, friendly contact with Meriem. Thank you !

I was born and brought up in the Fez Medina and know it very well. I began working by selling souvenirs on the street and worked my up to become the site manager on many renovations - including "Riad Zany", made famous by the book "A House in Fez". I continue to work as a translator, maintenance manager and general assistant for a number of long term foreign residents in Fez.
Dar Sondos was a labour of love - I have spent several years, together with my friends, making this traditional house as beautiful as possible so I can share it with others.
