Neighborhood highlights

The toponym Kamares derives from the numerous caves that exist on the rocky south coast of the bay. Kamares is the largest coastal village and the port of Sifnos.

Here you shall find the port’s dock, ATM, travel agencies, stores, groceries, traditional taverns, restaurants, cafeterias, beach bars, patisserie workshops, potter’s workshops with genuine ceramics of Sifnos, car and motorcycle renting offices, greek press agency, a kiosk, a diving center, and a cruise boat that organizes tours around Sifnos.

At the other end of the bay, just a 10 minute walk from the house, below the mountain of Agios Simeon, where the homonymous monastery is situated you will also find a traditional taverna and a couple of beach bars for amazing cocktails, all day food and a majestic sunset.

The golden large sandy beach of Kamares, one of the biggest on the island, and the best beach for kids, with shallow and safe waters, was awarded the blue flag of the European Union, because it meets the criteria of the project: (Coast Organization, Cleanness, Bathers’ safety).

Some of the oldest buildings of Kamares at the central settlement are the temples of Agios Georgios and of Agia Varvara (erection: 1785, renovation 1906), the Fanari (1896), ruins from the furnaces, the shipping scale for the ore (1883) and the old pier (1909).

It is worth visiting the Church of Agia Marina in Pera Panda, from where one can enjoy a magic sunset in Sifnos.
