This Caboose (#1) is on 18 acres of mostly wooded property on the access road for I-35, between San Marcos & New Braunfels and 8 miles from Gruene. Once you’re on the property you won’t see any traffic or hear much noise. It is 1 of 3 cabooses, a “Shack,” and a Missouri-Pacific depot. All rent separately. It is 1 bedroom and private bath. Common areas include an oval pool that is apx 3’ to 8’ deep, a deck beside the pool with 2 large grills, and lots of play areas for kids.

The space
Our property has a Missouri Pacific train station from the late 1800’s that was originally the depot for Buda, Tx. Around it we have added 3 guest quarters cabooses and the “Shack,” once a deer hunting camp building. There is an oval pool that is about 3’ at the shallow end to apx 8’ at the deep end. Beside it is a large 20’ X 40’ deck. There are 2 over-sized Weber charcoal grills that guests are welcome to use. You will need to provide your own charcoal, lighter, etc. There are numerous places for kids to play including an over-sized, covered sandbox, a playhouse, a treehouse, and vintage playground equipment. There is a nice gazebo between the depot and the pool and each guest building has it’s own porch and/or deck. The outside of the cabooses have been left original but the insides are totally remodeled into a comfortable bedroom and bathroom. Due to our love of antiques, the caboose is decorated with antique furniture and antique hardwood has been repurposed for the floors. We hope you will find it a happy medium between the beauty of the vintage look and the comforts of a great mattress & bedding, and a modern coffee maker.

Guest access
All guests have access to the laundry room with a washer and dryer and microwave, the pool and its deck, the grills, the gazebo, the playground area, the sandbox and playhouse, the treehouse, a newly added firepit area for s'mores, and the lawn areas.

Other things to note
Your caboose has a nice large deck that is a great place for watching deer with your morning coffee or evening wine. It has a metal table & chairs for two. There are tables at the pool large enough to eat at. If you do plan to grill, you will need to bring your own supplies for grilling and eating. There is plenty of driveway parking but no covered parking.
Due to our location we do not have wifi or cable so you will only get local channels on the TV.
There are two sweet cats on the property that you may see and you also may spot deer in the mornings.

Location

New Braunfels, Texas, United States

Although this property is out in the “country,” it is only 5 miles from San Marcos and Southwest Texas State Univ, and only about 8 miles from New Braunfels, home of the best waterpark, Schlitterbahn, and river tubing in Texas. It is less than 10 miles from Gruene, Tx, where the John Travolta movie, “Michael,” was made, where great antiquing is found, and where Gruene Hall is located for live country music. It is half way between Austin and San Antonio, about 30 minutes either way. It’s a great location for day trips to Bourne and Wimberley.
