The 6 units that make up The Mayhew Inn are individually, uniquely designed. Add to that, common spaces that can be shared with larger groups, or experienced alone. A common Lobby space with a fireplace, turntable with records, board games, puzzles and a large screen TV. The Dragon Lounge is another common space and faces the outdoor fireplace and pizza oven. Rooftop decks with the best harbor views in town!! Our rooftop has incomparable views of the Harbor, Sailboats, Lighthouse and Coast Guard Station.

The Fur Trader is a studio style 1 bedroom on the main level of The Mayhew property, has a Twin over Queen bunk, kitchenette. The kitchenette has a sink, microwave, fridge, coffee maker + ground coffee, plates utensils, coffee cups and glasses. The unit doesn’t have direct views of the lake, but you can experience it all from our rooftop decks. It has a warm cozy vibe, and harkens back to the days and designs of the French Fur Traders. If you want a little bit more room, there are warm cozy spaces to hang out in the Lobby and Lounge.

This room is priced below our other comparable rooms at The Mayhew Inn because there is a large unit on the 2nd floor above it, and when there is a large group sometimes there are sound transfer issues (footsteps and walking). So if you like to turn in extra early or sleep in, you may want to steer towards The Plaid Cabin or The Rococo Room. This unit is dog friendly. There is a 1 time cleaning fee + tax that is required. Choose the pet option when booking. No cats or any other animals are allowed, 1 dog maximum.

The Mayhew Inn is right in the heart of downtown Grand Marais on beautiful Harbor Park. Its Fur Trader design is warm and nostalgic. It is a great home base for enjoying the gentle activity of the Village or easily getting away for day trips to the BWCA. Drive up the Gunflint Trail for day adventures and hikes.

Even though The Mayhew Inn is right downtown on the harbor front, it is graced with a gorgeous secluded backyard with courtyard areas, rooftop decks with breathtaking views, fabulous restaurants and shops all within walking distance. Your own private campfires in the backyard at night, and watch the stars to wind down your evening.

In the evening, step next door to the Gunflint Tavern and enjoy a microbrew, glass of wine or cocktail and live music. Keep in mind you are downtown Grand Marais, so there is daytime activity - shopping, tourists, and a little bit of the nightlife. But that's part of the fun. Fortunately that all ends early in Grand Marais as everything pretty much shuts down around 9:00 – 10:00 pm.

Wake with the gulls in the morning sun and enjoy the quiet solitude of downtown as it gently comes to life. Stroll to The Angry Trout Cafe, The Fisherman’s Daughter, Voyageur Brewing Taproom, Sven & Ole’s Pizza, Worlds Best Donuts, coffee at The Java Moose or grab breakfast at The Blue Water Cafe or South of The Border Cafe. All short walks.

In Grand Marais, every day is a beautiful magical day whether it is sunny and warm or stormy and wild; all year round nature's magic unfolds right in front of you over the greatest of lakes, Lake Superior!

You will have access to "The Dragon Lounge". A commons area, eclectic with beautiful custom booths looking out sliding glass windows to the outdoor hearth and brick pizza oven. Also, the Lobby Area is a commons space for all, with a bar for guests and a cozy indoor fireplace. Also, look out over Lake Superior on the private decks for guests. Easily the best view in all of downtown Grand Marais, right on the waterfront!! Ice machines in both the The Dragon Lounge as well as the Lobby!
