You are all welcome of course, not just arty people! We live in an old Victorian house, built in 1872, set in a private crescent, so away from traffic. Jorge is a cameraman and editor, as well as our technology Mr. Fixit! I (Elaine) am the artist and wedding photographer. Between us we speak several European languages: Greek, Spanish, German, French & Italian.
Dewsbury is near several major towns (Leeds, Huddersfield, Bradford, Wakefield, under 10 miles apart) and has easy access to both M1 and M62 so you can explore from our home as a base. We have super fast WI-FI, and in house techie (Jorge). The internet password is in our house manual which Airbnb send you once you have confirmed your booking.
If you like walking there are several lovely walks and woods nearby too, I am veggie but my husband is a carnivore so if you would like to share a meal with us, just let me know. We often travel with our wedding photography and video work - to all sorts of places abroad, so understand how important it is to feel at home when away from home...much more fun than a hotel!
See our guidebook for bus and train station locations: London (189 miles), Leeds (10 miles), Bradford (10 miles), Huddersfield (10 miles), Wakefield (6 miles), Sheffield (30 miles), Manchester (40 miles). Happy to meet you from the train and to either walk up with you to show you the footpath, or to pick you up by car if we are around at the time you arrive. Message me if you'd like help checking best public transport routes, as happy to look them up for you.
If you fancy a bike ride to get around the various Greenways, and Canal tow-paths in the area, you can borrow one of our mountain bikes if you like too. You will still need to go up at least one hill to get back to us though I'm afraid, but if I can do it, am sure you can too. No worries if you choose to push it for the last bit though of course!
BTW for anyone allergic to cats or fearful of them: our cat NEVER goes into any of the areas your room or bathroom is located in, is 3 closed doors away and on a different floor, and in any case mainly lives in our back garden! He is only allowed in our private areas you see. For cat lovers of course we don't mind if you approach him but he is not allowed upstairs or in the main part of the house.
xx Elaine & Jorge
Our guests are welcome to sit in the garden, use either bathrooms, the washing machine, and if needed, our front room too.
We interact as little or as much as our guests need. We find most couples prefer to be left to their own devices, but if they need any help , of course we are more than happy to do what we can. We are often downstairs in our respective offices/ workspaces, or out photographing or videoing weddings, so have more flexible working hours than most people. There is usually one of us around at least though, so we do socialise with our guests if time and situations feel right.
Elaine lives in a quiet, leafy bit of Dewsbury. Her house is fascinating and full of character, lined with her paintings and photography. Elaine was incredibly welcoming and friendly, making sure we had everything we could need and going far beyond what we would expect of a host - making us soup for us after a long bike ride in the rain! After a good chat Elaine left us to settle in and find ourself some dinner. The room was very comfortable and had a fridge, kettle, little hob to make breakfast - it was perfect for travelling on a budget and wanting to cook for ourselves because we're vegan.
Thanks Elaine, you were a great host!
Eliane was a great host, she picked me up from the station which was extremely helpful. The room was large and had all the necessary equipment for an enjoyable stay.
I would recommend a visit if not for the wonderful interior, for the hospitality.
Elaine and Jorge were such warm, welcoming, and entirely generous hosts. We were only able to stay a very short time but I felt instantly welcomed and as if part of their own family. It was a joy to stay with them and the room was beautifully clean and comfortable, with a big soft bed, and even a mini refrigerator and kettle. The shower was a little odd but Elaine explained it carefully and it went just fine. I highly recommend anyone stay in their beautiful home, though do try to stay longer than one night as they are such a delight to chat with!
What a pleasure to stay with Elaine. Delightful in every way! comfortable room; access to kettle and sink and microwave etc; bed with electric blanket so cosy; aesthetically pleasing with Elaine's art and photos everywhere and best of all such a warm and interesting person with the best laugh ever.
We were welcomed into Elaine's home with open arms. Even though our stay was only for two nights, we settled in quickly and comfortably thanks to her friendly and attentive hospitality. Our room was large, beautifully lit by natural light and equipped with sufficient cooking utilities, a private sink and even a heating blanket in the bed which was a treat! On our first night, Elaine walked us into town, showing us her favourite walking path and sharing stories of the colourful neighborhood. We recommend Elaine's home for anyone with creative sensibilities, interested in an experience not to be forgotten.
Elaine is *such* an amazing host. We arrived late at night and she welcomed us with a hug and a quick tour. We loved the chats with Elaine and Jorge and appreciated the unexpected addition of pancakes.
The room was spacious and lovely, the bed is comfortable, and the style of the whole household is artistic and comfortable. I will have to try to come up with an excuse to return.
Ah bless! What a lovely review! We'd be more than delighted to have you both back, as it seemed s shame I had to babysit that night so missed most of the fun in the morning! At least Jorge now knows which is the correct pancake pan, and to use butter, and that the mixture needs a fresh stir again before use! I thought leaving the blender head in the pot would have been clue enough....! Next time, I hope to be there in the morning too. xx
Elaine and Jorge were so, so lovely to stay with! They picked us up from the station and dropped us back off and went beyond any host's duties to help us with a number of little personal things that we needed to attend to. My friend and I shared the same artistic interests with them as well, so we got to have a few interesting conversations and they even invited us to a big Sunday roast one evening! Their space is such a unique, wonderful find. It's full of artwork and character and also so quiet and private; the perfect little retreat for a few days. I hope to have the opportunity to come and stay with them again one day! I'd recommend them without reservation.
Elaine is very hospitable and extrovert, she welcomed us with a big hug.
and the bed is very soft and nice.price is really cheap.
But unfortunitely we don't like to recommendate to other people. cause it's not like what we imagined from the picture showed on airbnb. not a classic bnb as we have compaired with all other bnb we tried in uk during the 16 days. we are not used for the artist house, need to get used for it. the bathroom and toilet is very disspointing, special when you take shower needs to crouch, cause if you stand up take shower the floor will be wet and it will be a waterpool. and we do afraid to go to the toilet.
and we haven't got any breakfast, but it's in christmas time we can totally understand. and elaine is very kind have offered a dinner together when we check out.
anyhow thanks for your host!
Oh sorry Zhu! I only warned you about that as the last couple soaked the floor and it came through the ceiling! Shame you didn't use the downstairs bathroom that has a proper shower. You are right though, as we are not a classic B&B. This is our home you see, rather than a B&B as such, though if you wanted me provide you with a breakfast I could have, but its not in the official description at all. Normally I would be around more to help you but as you arrived on Christmas Eve, and I spent Christmas with my daughter and her family, I could only offer to entertain you from Boxing Day onwards, but of course by then you were moving on to your next place. Thanks for letting me know how you felt here though. xx Elaine
