Why pay ridiculous prices for luxury accommodation?? We've got it all... beautifully decorated rooms, full en-suite bathrooms in all our rooms, TVs, mini-bars, a gorgeous courtyard garden and really awesome breakfasts... but we don't charge a fortune! That is what makes us different!
Originally established as Saffron House Guest House in 2001 - we were one of Melville's first guest houses. We'd love to welcome you to our charming establishment where our focus is entirely on guest satisfaction, right from our friendly "hello" when you walk through the gate, to fond goodbyes when you leave.
Situated a stone's throw from Melville's famous 7th Street with its pavement cafes, restaurants, antique/vintage stores and cocktail clubs, we are in the perfect location to explore Johannesburg, being only a few minutes from fabulous places like the Apartheid Museum, two universities, Gold Reef City, Constitution Hill as well as a mere 30 minutes from the Cradle of Humankind.
We've purposely steered away from the "clean-lined minimalist chrome and glass" decor style - ours is a classy eclectic mix of Moroccan and South African influences which is cozy, inviting and fun... you'll want to put your feet up, relax and enjoy!!
If you need an airport transfer or tours arranged, we have our own luxury bus that can transport up to 7 passengers in style, comfortable in the knowledge that the driver is correctly licensed and the vehicle insured and with all the necessary permits. Let us know your flight details and we'll be there to fetch you with a big smile!
We're very easy going at 84 on Fourth, however we do have a few guidelines - no loud music or noise after 22h00, no smoking in the rooms (there are tables and chairs outside with ashtrays for smokers), no unauthorised overnight guests...
You need to arrange parking prior to check in as we have a limited number of parking spots available. Our divine home cooked two course breakfast is included in our daily rate.
Precious met us upon arrival and was very welcoming, showed us around the beautiful guesthouse and showed us to our immaculate room. The room was cleaned very well every day. Secure parking was provided for our car, although we did have to wake other guests in the mornings to move their cars so we could get out. The Internet did not work for us. Precious insisted we had to change our security settings to get it to work. As I'm no IT guy, I couldn't figure it out and we went Internet-less. The breakfast is delicious, but be fore-warned, the time for breakfast changes (holiday / week-end hours?)) and we weren't told so we didn't get breakfast the second day due to plans we had made, not knowing breakfast was served later. As there is no staff / reception past 18h, a simple fix to communicate breakfast times would be to post a sign with breakfast times for the next morning, or to simply tell people when they check in the times for the duration of their stay. The neighborhood is nice with several good restaurants and bars within walking distance. We walked to a very good Mexican restaurant right up the road that was very good. Overall, a good place to stay but there are some issues that need to be fixed for other guests in the future.
Staying at 84 on 4th was by far one of the best experiences I have every had! Not only was the space beautiful, quiet, quaint and clean, the staff goes above and beyond to make your stay amazing! From providing airport shuttle, to a lovely breakfast, to storing luggage while we were are our safari without even blinking an eye, they made our stay completely seamless, and for that I can't thank them enough. Also, perfectly located around the corner from tons of shops, restaurants and more to get a sense of the city without having to travel far. My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer! I would highly recommend 84 on 4th and I look forward to my next opportunity to stay again!! Outstanding service, would give them 100 stars!! Thanks!!
I loved staying at the 84th on 4th. The neighborhood was safe and walkable with tons of cute shops and restaurants! The breakfasts by Precious and Kristine were the BEST I had during my whole 3 week stay in South Africa! I love those ladies and can't wait to go back one day!
Very lovely hosts. This really depends on your expectations. Breakfast was very cozy at 1 table. The guest house was very full and so we were obliged to sit with other guests. That works if personalities gel but not if they don't. There are some nice outside spaces that could have been used for breakfast dining weather permitting. Bathroom sink could use nearby shelf to put toiletries on. Supplies in rooms fairly basic. But certainly good value for price!
Saffron House was great. The guest house has a refined character with simple and clean rooms. Aubrey was very accommodating and an excellent host. Thanks for a great stay in JoBurg.
Saffron House is a very Nice place, Quiet and very safe. It is very hospitable with charming and friendly hosts and of course affordable prices. My family and I really enjoyed our two weeks stay at Saffron during last christmas and New year season
I recommend it for any occasion and especially for those who seek solace after the whole year of hefty and tight work schedules
