On the beautiful Flores island of Indonesia, 27 kms east of Maumere, nestled right at the water's edge, sits the little Sleepy Sister (next door to the Sleepy Lagoon - see under separate listing). The Sleepy Sister and Sleepy Lagoon comprise part of Lena House, owned by Indonesian couple Didakus and Esy Stanislaus.
Built traditionally from coconut wood and bamboo with grass roof, it's the perfect budget option for one person or a couple looking for a quiet retreat in a paradise location.

The space
The space consists of a bedroom, bathroom and verandah. The shower is open plan Indonesian 'mandi' style but in a discrete setting with view to the back garden. The toilet is western style with manual flush.
Power
Generator power is available during the evenings(usually from around 6pm til 10 pm), and there is also a 12 volt light for your convenience when generator is not operating.

Food and water supplies
Please note that the rental price does not include breakfast. We supply free tea and coffee facilities (kettle whilst power is on, hot water thermos on request) We recommend you purchase your meals through Lena House restaurant - The restaurant is a short walk or boat ride up the beach. The food, cooked by Esy, is fresh, delicious and very reasonable priced. .Drinking water can be ordered in bulk (19 litre containers) through Lena House for approx US$3

Guest access
You can access all of the space in the hut.

Other things to note
Breakfast is not included in the price.
Please note that the price of rental does not include breakfast. Breakfast costs approx US$3 per person and the money contributes income to Didakus and Esy at Lena House, a local family who work hard to earn a living from their business. We hope that you don't mind contributing to the local family income.
Road Access
There is no direct road access to Sleepy Sister - access from road is via Lena House -approx 500 metre walk along beach to the house. Staff are available to help with your luggage and any other needs, and there is emergency access to the road if necessary, just not for every day purposes.
Internet access
There is no wifi access at Sleepy Sister. Best to buy a local SIM card and access data via 3G - very reasonable price to do so. If you buy SIM in Bali make sure that it will work on Flores! You should buy Simpati brand to make sure it will work. Otherwise there is wi-fi (slow) available at Lena House 1- 500metres up the beach.

The Sleepy Sister is based on a beautiful beach in a quiet local community. There are not many shops,(just a few for food and essential items), no bars, not many houses have television, and the pace of life is slow. If you are after parties and hustle and bustle this is not the place for you. But if you want peace, quiet and serenity, then give this place a try! If you want things to do, you can climb the local volcano (Mt Egon - best tackled with a guide), go to Bleddit hot springs, take a boat to nearby Babi Island for snorkelling and picnic lunch. If you are interested in community development, our caretaker can take you to a local pre-school, or tell you about the environmental initiatives that we are supporting.

I'm a musician first and foremost and violin is my instrument of choice - I've played professionally in bands for many years - rock, country, folk bands- and also write music for film and television which is great work when you can get it. Love music, love my artistic friends many of whom are musicians, writers, film makers, designers or painters. I'm always interested in the creativity of people and think we've all got some in us somewhere.. I'm also very interested in health, especially refugee and migrant health. I gained my Masters in Public Health as a mature age student and now I work part time in the community. My husband Dave and I love travelling and have both been to some fantastic locations around the world - mainly Asia and Europe but also Africa and the United States. We loved Flores in Indonesia so much we decided to build a house there! So now we have two places to call home. We also enjoy nature, open spaces and gardens. We consider ourselves very lucky to have a great temperate garden In Melbourne Australia and a tropical one in Flores - best of both worlds! And our other great love is dogs - we lost our 14 year old English Staffy a while ago but hope to get another dog later on this year. In Flores we've got a few doggie friends (as well as human ones!) We like travelling in the 'real world' ie not staying in flash hotels - we like to really experience the places we're travelling to. The house we are hosting in Flores is exactly the type of house we'd like to stay in when travelling around Asia - comfortable but not formal, easy living, close to nature.
