Aerie Guest House Central Austin

House - Entire home/apt · Maple Avenue, Austin, TX 78702, United States

The Space

Welcome to Austin and the Aerie Guesthouse.

The guesthouse is comfortable, private, and you can come and go on your own. Quiet, clean and secure.

In the second story bedroom you will be up high with windows all around and a view of sky and trees. It is very private and peaceful. The queen-sized bed has a comfortable mattress.

The downstairs has a living room with a comfortable sleeper sofa (and a normal queen-sized mattress-- not a futon) a full bathroom with shower, a small fridge, a table with electric teapot, coffee and tea, and a small closet where you can hang your clothes.

The house was built using the very best green products and lots of local purple heart cedar wood. The addition shares the solar electricity we generate on panels on the main house. Energy efficient "mini-splits" heat and cool the upstairs and downstairs separately so you will be comfortable no matter what the outside temperature.

Pricing depends on how many people will be staying and how many beds need to be prepared. Typically I charge $20/night extra for more than two guests. For nonevent weekdays the regular price is $75/night and $85/night on Friday and Saturday. There are no additional charges for cleaning or a security deposit. During events like SXSW, ACL and Nascar, prices/night will be higher, but not ridiculous!

We live close to UT and downtown Austin on the East side. We are within easy walking distance of several coffee shops -- Bennu's on MLK, Thunderbird on Manor Rd and one of the best Taco/Mexican food outdoor restaurants in Austin -- El Chilitos on Manor. East Side Cafe and Hoovers are also within walking distance and are highly recommended.

Two bus lines come within 2 blocks of the house, #18 and #320.

We have two bikes (mid sized Specialized) available for your use at no charge. Just let us know and we will set you up with a lock and a helmet if you need one.

We will give you the password to use our wireless.

We will consider a request to bring a dog or cat.

Interaction with Guests

We've lived at this residence since 2003 and in Austin since 1995 so we can help you navigate Austin if you have questions. I've linked a "guidebook" with many of our favorite eating and walking places. We've done a lot of traveling around the world and have stayed in B&Bs and Airbnbs so we've been the beneficiaries of wonderful hospitality and are happy to be your hosts. We will also respect your privacy and never intrude, either on your space or your time. As hosts who own and live on the property we try to be welcoming and responsive but not overbearing or fussy. Enjoy the unique Aerie and Austin!

Overall Guest Satisfaction

  • We loved staying here! The guest house was lovely and Belle was extremely accommodating, while maintaining a sense of privacy. The location was ideal, with easy access to eastside bars and restaurants, as well as downtown. We had two guests, upstairs and downstairs, and the sleeper sofa downstairs was very comfortable. Would definitely stay here again.

  • Our initial plan was to go camping, however the forecast called for rain all day. We made a late reservation Tuesday night for Wednesday and Belle was very punctual in responding to our requests and accommodating us on such short notice. The guest house is even better than the pictures. Really nice windows and very clean, comfortable place to stay. Cute chickens next door. We would definitely recommend and stay here again.

  • Belle is a lovely, accommodating and laid-back host. The home is located near some of our favorite Austin spots along Manor Ave., and a short bike ride from East sixth and downtown, as well as just a few minutes to the UT campus. The house is a bit sparse but perfect for a few night's stay, with coffee and tea provided, as well as a microwave and mini-fridge. We were able to bring our dog who had a blast playing in their yard with their little dog, Sparky. The home is in excellent condition and it is a real treat to stay in. It does get bright in the mornings, however, as there are no curtains to block ut the sunlight. o

  • Adorable place - clean, well insulated & quiet. Belle was flexible and considerate. We'd totally stay there again.
Our kids loved the chickens, dog & cat outside but if your little ones are still wobbly the inside stairs might be a bit steep.

  • I was looking for a place to feel like home during sxsw festival and this was definitely a winner. Cozy feelung, lovely structural details. However, this place doesn't have much of a kitchen, its bare bones. If you really looking for a place to shower and sleep this works. Looking fir a place to make homecook meals, look elsewhere. It would be nice to have a hotplate or drinking water available to make light, quick meals. The shower basin was really small and could benefit from the curtain rod placed further away as to not have it stick to your body. The curved curtain rod could be extended out so the curtain falls further away. Very nice to have mass transit maps and various books around. Every morning the birds were chirping loud, which I didn't mind. Definitely a good jomey place about 2.5miles east of Red River and close to the Mlk road where there are various restaurants.

  • The Aerie Guest House is a wonderful little backyard detached house with lots of coziness built in, and an adjacent [quiet] chicken coop. We stayed during SXSW and though it was a 45 minute to the Convention Center, it suited our needs well. Alan (Belle's husband) was attentive, responsive, and friendly and made our stay perfectly pleasant.

The location was also better than we expected — in a quiet neighborhood with access to cafes and restaurants within a 10-15 minutes walk.

  • Was in town for SXSWedu and needed a place to stay. Belle's place was very cozy and comfortable. Quick 10-minute cab ride to downtown Austin, no problem. There is also a bus there. Belle was very hospitable and I would definitely stay here again.

  • We loved staying in the Aerie guest house! Belle and her family were very accommodating and the chickens were awesome. The guesthouse is really comfortable, beautifully designed and efficiently built. The location was convenient to get to Downtown and East Side restaurants and bars but in a quiet neighborhood. We definitely recommend this stay!

  • What a wonderful guesthouse! Clean, simple yet cozy and equipped with everything one would need, down to corkscrews and mini fridge. The bed was really comfortable. Waking up in the upstairs room is like a dream in itself.

I didn't get to meet Belle, but she was always available and responsive via text. We had even left a pair of shoes behind when we checked out and Belle contacted me right away so we were able to pick them up.

Highly recommend and will definitely try to book this place again next time I'm in Austin!

  • Staying at the Aerie guest house was such a treat + the host, Belle is lovely to work with. The house was exceptionally clean, neat + tidy and it is so charming. The upstairs bedroom felt as if I were sleeping in a treehouse. It was so peaceful + relaxing. I came into Austin visiting from NYC because I am considering moving to Austin + I wanted a local experience + it was perfect...exactly what I was looking for. Belle responds to emails + text right away and was very helpful. The location is also great. It is very quick to downtown and central Austin. It seems a 15 minute drive or less will get you anywhere you need to be. Parking is easy and available right outside of the main house too. There are also so many great shops + restos close to the house in the East Austin neighborhood, which I really loved. I will certainly stay here again + I had such a blast in Austin. Thank you, Belle! :)

I am a writer working on a book about a homesteading community in northwest Colorado. I grew up in Colorado but I have lived and worked in West Virginia and now Texas. I've traveled to many parts of the world -- Russia and Syria to visit my daughters when they were studying abroad, Japan, Chile, Europe, Mexico and we've all been to Guatemala many times. I have two grown daughters and an 11 year-old daughter who is in 6th grade. My husband is works for a national conservation organization. We spend a lot of time outdoors -- walking, biking, canoeing. We also love to build things and did much of the work on the Aerie ourselves. We've traveled enough to appreciate hospitality and how people can make you feel comfortable and at home. We won't intrude on your life but we will be available if you need us.
