Mariela and Bubu did a great job of making my girlfriend and I feel welcome. Though Mariela was in Florida during our visit, she was always available via phone and email.
The moment we arrived, Bubu introduced us to the 4 dogs that live on the property, and we instantly fell in love with Roy (the brown and white pit bull), because he reminded us so much of our own pit bull, Jack. I later told Bubu "Queremos llevar Roy a los estados unidos con nos." to which she replied "No!", and we all had a good laugh. Roy is her hijito, and he is precious. If you are scared of pit bulls, Roy will be the one to change your mind and make you a pit bull lover for life.
While at the cabin, Bubu is like the mother you never had - checking in on you, making you breakfast each morning, arranging activities around Urubamba and taxis into town. She can also build a fire faster than a boy scout, which comes in handy during the chilly nights in the cabin.
There are some restaurants that are walking distance from the cabin, but bear in mind that you will need to hire taxis to go pretty much anywhere else, and the cost can add up. It's a good idea to confirm the cost of the taxi prior to leaving, that way you don't get ripped at the end of the trip (we had hired a taxi to drive to some ruins one day and were under the impression it would be 150 soles, but when we returned to the cabin, the driver told us it would be 200 soles). That said, It is nice that the cabin is located far away from all the noise of the center of town, and thus makes for a peaceful retreat.
Some added bonuses are the variety of plants and flowers around the property, the river (though too cold to swim in, it is nice and relaxing to walk along and sit by), and the property has a very romantic vibe which is great for couples.
I cannot thank Mariela and Bubu enough for their hospitality during our stay. I would recommend this place for your stay in Urubamba.
Amazing Reception, stunning garden and lovely house.
Its my second time in the Sacred Valley and I can say that there is no better place to stay.
Congratulations to Bubbu and Mariela for the amazing place.
Everything was lovely hope to come back again soon.
This is one of those places that is actually better than its photos. This beautiful cabin is nestled in among the mountains and surrounded by beautifully kept grounds. We enjoyed the humming birds that were attracted to the flowers in front of our door. Mariela and Charito and the rest of the staff are so gracious. We were there for a restful, retreat vacation; and were able to do exactly that. Our needs were either anticipated or met with gracious response. The place is indeed cozy (comfortable beds and blankets!)...and clean and well-stocked in terms of the kitchen. We cooked all of our meals with the exception of our delicious breakfast that was delivered with care each morning. (Perfectly prepared eggs, fresh bread, juice, coffee) Mariela was unable to be in town for our visit (we were sad to miss meeting her after such helpful messaging); but she called us when we arrived and Charito was the spirit of welcome and care to us. We did not manage to make use of the lovely hot tub or fire pit; but their presence added to the richness of the offering. I would definitely recommend this place and can easily imagine coming back to Peru in order to simply stay here again!
Mariela is a warmhearted woman and a superhost. You get PAMPERed in all ways. We felt like home.
The house is WONDERFUL located in her wonderful garden full of flowers. In a valley next to the river. Very romantic. And very safe. The alone standing house has a full kitchen - fully equiped, a lovely dining area and living room. The shower has always hot water. Upstairs is the matrimonial bed plus a single bed. Also with warm bedcovers to keep you always warm at night. If you want to discover the sacred valley then do it from here. It is also very close to the train Station to Aguas Caliente and Machu Picchu.
Dear Stefan, Thanks so very much for your kind evaluation and words. I am honored to have such nice and kind people like you visit our place and feel extremely good to know we met your expectations. May you have a wonderful 2015 and may we see you here, or perhaps in your place, one day soon. Best wishes!! Mariela and family
We loved staying at Mariela's cabin. We really couldn't have asked for a better introduction to Peru, the Sacred Valley, and the wonderful Peruvian people. Mariela welcomed us into her home as she would a beloved family member. She even became our four year old son's adopted abuela. The cabin is beautiful inside and out. We loved sitting at our table eating breakfast and looking at the flowers and hummingbirds. The cabin was a great place for us to relax after our international flight and also after our daily travels to the sites in the area, including Pisac, Maras, and Moray. For us, it was nice to be outside of town and to have a place where our son could run and we could hear and see the river. (It was easy enough to get into town when we wanted.) Mariela helped us with our itinerary and with drivers and transportation. She even bought marshmallows and Oreos (a Peruvian version of smores) so we could roast marshmallows over the fire pit outside the cabin. All of the people who work with Mariela are helpful and kind. I wish we were still there. And I hope someday we can go back.
Thanks so much for your kind words. It makes us feel so happy to accomplish our principal wish and commitment for our guests. It was a true pleasure meeting you and .... YES! I love being Jack's adoptive grandma in Peru! Please tell him so!
Virtual hugs for the three of you and will look forward to the pictures and to your news, whenever you have time. Stay in touch!
