About this listing
Casa Xochitl is a guesthouse for world travelers and those just beginning to discover new horizons. The ideal place for individuals and couples interested in experiencing down to earth no-nonsense Baja culture, maybe learning some Spanish and exploring the desert, sierra and solitary beaches. Our petit B&B is an atrium style house, built around a laurel tree graced by brick arches and bougambilias. Just as Baja is a contradictory land of desert and sea, Casa Xochitl is a jovial, unorthodox atmosphere embracing Southern Baja's agreeable sub-tropical climate. Over the years we have lovingly shaped rustic Mexican charm into an eclectic, unflustered habitat, a sensible space, a relaxed & stimulating hosted environment on an ostensibly foreign planet. Relax, indulge and savor every surprise: gourmet or intellectual. We're located down a sandy road on the edge of a laid back 19th century frontier village, a few minutes from solitary beaches and a quick drive al malecón.

Oasis next to La Paz- Mike and Niurka have been wonderful hosts! The food, freshly prepared from Niurka, has been so good, that we just once went out for dinner. It has been very nice to be a part of their life for a few days and we definitely recommend this interesting space to anyone who is not willing to spend the time in an unpersonal hotel in La Paz center.
Casa Xochitl is an amazing experience. We enjoyed not only the beautiful room and lovely property, but also the charming hosts. The property is free flowing, intuitive yet simple reflecting the ingenuity of its designer and builder, Michael. Niurka's breakfast of full bodied, freshly ground coffee, fresh squeezed juice, and a plate of homemade surprises was a beautiful work of art in its presentation and delicious. We special ordered dinner from Niurka's sumptuous kitchen and discovered the best, healthy, beautifully presented, fresh meals in the whole area. Getting to know Michael and Niurka was a unique experience. We will be back. Casa Xochitl is an experience not to be missed. It is simply the best of La Paz and one of Baja's treasures. An oasis in the desert.
To live outside the law you must be honest - Bob Dylan
Mike and Niurka are disarmingly so, honest that is. Truly people persons, they are citizens of the planet, students of history with a view that is unbound by religion or politics. They love to converse, but are easy to be with in their respect for their guest's privacy and wishes.
Mike has built an elegant oasis amidst a sandy former "free zone" of squatters who were given title to their propertIes. The cool green plantings and sensitive architecture of this place are right in concert with Niurka's elegant Cuban / Moroccan cooking. Her lovely refreshing breakfasts always seem to arrive on your schedule.
This place and it's proprietors are exceptional - "bed and breakfast" doesn't begin to describe the lovely time you'll spend here.
What a great spot! We really enjoyed our stay in this clean and truly beautiful casita with a luxurious bed. Our hosts were very friendly and accommodating and also had great recommendations for activities in La Paz and Baja in general. The breakfasts were incredible! Fresh juice, coffee and traditionally prepared fish each morning. It was the best food we ate in the La Paz area! They also said that dinner would be prepared on request. I can only imagine how delicious dinner would be after those breakfasts. We did not take them up on their offer, but we would definitely recommend it.
Light sleepers take note: there is an active rooster population in the area so you might want to bring ear plugs if you want to sleep in.
We chose Casa Xochitl because they are pet-friendly - we love traveling with our golden retriever, and it's normally quite a problem finding a nice place that would accept our dog as well. But - that said - after the amazing experience we had, we have now found ourselves a home away from home for any visit to La Paz! Mike and Nuirka and their puppy welcomed us warmly as we were their long-time friends. The room we stayed at is not just a regular room - it is a luxurious and ample spaced room, with a walk in closet, big main room with cozy bed and living area, a large bathroom with shower and bathtub. We loved our room, and slept very comfortably, but as they say that love goes through the belly, we were enchanted by the hospitality of Nuirka and Michael. Nuirka is the best chef ever! In the morning Nuirka prepared us the best breakfast/brunch ever, freshly squeezed orange juice with fruit, espresso just as we liked it, a salad, fresh fish with a delicious salsa en nogada and baked tomato. Honestly, it was better than in any restaurant. We enjoyed our conversations with our hosts, and are grateful for the local tips they shared with us.
The only bad thing was that we couldn't stay longer! We can't wait to return to La Paz and stay with Michael, Nuirka and their puppy girl Bully.
A welcomed first stop visit to La Paz. Our stay was so pleasant - Nuirka and Michael were great and accommodating hosts. The room and living space was culturally artistic and so comfortable. The food was so outstanding and memorable, we never wanted to leave the table. We will be returning to relive the Casa Xochitel hospitality experience, sadly it's not soon enough. Thank you for such a wonderful stay Michael and Nuirka.
Mike and Niurka were some of the kindest hosts that I have ever experienced, not just through Airbnb but anywhere.
Their home, their food is art that they are excited to share with you! They want to talk to you, learn your story and share theirs.
They gave excellent tips and recommendations and were ready and able to help us with anything we needed. Including a mosquito net for our bed!
Even with the few mosquito bites we left with, we were completely floored by our time with them. Do not pass up this unique and warm experience to meet a truly amazing couple!
