My "Nest" is a great haven for visiting San Francisco! The bedroom and private bath are comfortable and quiet; the upstairs shared room is airy, with a spectacular view and decks. Potrero Hill is eclectic & sunny, and lots of fun to explore!

The Space

Sunny, quiet bedroom with own bathroom in 3 story townhouse. Room is good-sized (approximately 11.5' x 13.5'), comfortably furnished, with bay window, and own private adjacent bathroom. Bamboo hardwood floors throughout, with two decks, views overlooking the whole city, fireplace, tall ceilings in common areas (kitchen, dining, living). There are laundry machines in unit, plus dishwasher, gas stove, cable and WiFi.

Great neighborhood (Potrero Hill), close to transportation (SF Muni Bus Lines (phone number hidden), Caltrain, BART) and Hwys. 101 & 280. Conveniently located to nearby shops including Whole Foods; excellent restaurants (i.e. Chez Papa, Aperto, Sunflower, Serpentine, Piccino, etc…); with easy street parking. The peace and quiet of the country in the heart of the City!

Guest Access

Guests are welcome to share the kitchen, living and dining room areas (and the decks at either end of the house on the top floor). They also have their own bathroom, which is not shared with host.

Interaction with Guests

Depending on everyone's schedule, guests and host are able to interact whenever it's convenient for all.

The Neighborhood

Potrero Hill is the sunniest part of San Francisco, and feels like a village within the City, with lots of trees and gardens. There are great restaurants, boutiques, coffee shops, and wonderful views.

Getting around

There are several bus lines within a block or so of the household ((phone number hidden) MUNI lines). One can walk to the Caltrain stop at 22nd & Pennsylvania in about 15 - 20 minutes to head south down the Peninsula. From the airport, one can take a Shuttle, Taxi, or BART (which then would require a taxi ride). There is also easy street parking for those guests who will have a car.

  • Cathryn is very communicative, easygoing and knows how to make guests feeling at home. She answered promptly to emails and accepted a last minute booking. My boyfriend and me loved her house, good location on a quiet hill: close to some nice restaurants and the bus stop for downtown. Highly recommend.

  • Cathryn is wonderful, and as a host is very responsive, accommodating, and really fun to be around. She was full of helpful suggestions of where to find everything and go shopping. The home is gorgeous, truly a stunning and comfortable, clean place with amazing views of San Francisco. The kitchen was fully equipped and has a lovely little a deck off of it. The bed was super comfortable and the bedroom had plenty of space to relax or do some work at the desk. Both the bathroom and bedroom had everything needed, even a yoga mat for my mornings! This home is located in Potrero on a very quiet block surrounded by trees. Spending a week here was extremely refreshing and I look forward to coming back!

  • Cathryn is simply the best host I have stayed with so far.
She was providing me daily tips on where to go and what to see based on the local events.
The house is really nice and the view is just amazing. You will have the perfect spot to enjoy the view of the fog coming in the city. The room is also well furnished from a comfy bed to lots of storages.
You will not regret your stay at Cathryn's Nest.

  • It was a lovely stay at Cathryn's place! The room is clean, and the bed is comfy. I love the bathroom just next to the guest room. Cathryn also provided teas and you hurt for us in the morning! The only thing you need to keep on mind is the place is on the mountain, so you do need walk a lil bit! But I love her place and Cathryn is a super nice lady!

Thanks, Flora, for the nice review. I think (and hope) you meant yoghurt? I don't want anyone thinking I'm hurting my guests in the mornings! ;^)
And yes, Potrero Hill is indeed just that ~ a pretty good sized hill! But then, San Francisco's kind of known for that sort of geography, which I think is part of the City's charm. Cheers! Cathryn

  • Cathryn is no amateur host; she had obviously considered our every need in advance. From shower robes to tourist copy to spare towels and blankets, you quickly learn to glance around before making requests. The odd time we had questions or had trouble planning our day, she was right there. The rest of the time she rocked the vanishing act, simply announcing her availability with a "good morning" over our morning bustling.

Also fighting for first place in accommodatory excellence: the house. With a door dividing the host's and guest's bed/bathroom areas, the space is basically made for BnBing. The upper common floor is a little taste of heaven, with great plants, style, and a holy-$#|+-we-really-lucked-out-this-time view.

Being no strangers to public transit, we easily made do with the nearby bus options (just steps away). It was convenient that one bus travelled up downtown's West end, and the other up downtown's East. Everything else we wanted to see was just one transfer away. For extra ease we picked up 7-day transit passes, letting us jump on and off any bus/streetcar/trollie we saw without worrying about correct change or transfers. The subway isn't included with the pass, but we only rode it for the final trip to the airport.

Potrero Hill offers a formidable walking challenge, as does downtown's Coit Tower area, but experiencing the steep inclines and witnessing a world built on an angle was the main draw and memory of San Francisco for us. If you don't mind getting a little physical, you'll enjoy a few laughs defeating these stairs-without-steps called sidewalks.

Some final Potrero Hill tips: we strongly recommend Potrero Hill's holy trinity of restaurants (Chez Maman, Chez Papa, and Papito), keep in mind the North/Southbound buses take different one-way roads near Cathryn's place, a taxi ride downtown costs $10-15 with tip, and don't forget to take in Potrero Hill's amazing view of downtown at night!

  • Cathryn is the best host. Not only is Cathryn's house beautiful, but she is beautiful. The city lights at nighttime are a total dream, I slept well and enjoyed every minute I spent in the Nest. Everything from getting the booking and checking in/out was all a breeze. Truly a no hassle experience, but I also felt like I was staying with family.

*I accidently left a pair of socks at the Nest and Cathryn returned the socks to me when she was in my city.

  • Where do I begin – this was just an amazing, wonderful stay. Cathryn was so kind and helpful to my wife and I as we arrived at and learned about San Francisco. She told us about the different neighborhoods and gave us some great ideas for places to eat. She achieved a perfect balance between being helpful and also giving us our space.

Her home is beautiful from one end to the other. There are lots of little touches that made our stay pleasant, and I didn't have to ask for much at all the entire time I was there (though when I did, she was very responsive and helpful). The views from her balcony are just unbelievable – probably some of the best views I've seen of the city yet.

In short, I don't have much experience with Airbnb, but I feel like Cathryn embodies perfectly what it means to be a great host, and I would recommend the Potrero Hill Nest to anyone looking for a nice, comfortable place to stay.

  • Our stay with Cathryn was wonderful. The views from the terrace were spectacular, the house was clean and the bed was unbelievably comfortable after the long days of discovering the city. There is a bus stop just minutes from the house and if you're not into public transport Cathryn has everything piece of information from private shuttles to taxis available at your disposal. I am so glad that we stayed with Cathryn rather than a hotel. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a upscale comfortable stay with breathtaking views.

  • I and my wife shared precious time with Cathryn and it was unforgettable. She always tried to make us comfortable so we could spend the time like we're at home. We definitely recommend you to stay at her wonderful 'nest' and we guaranteed it's the best place in SF. When we leave her house at last day, we promised "We'll be back here in next trip" with her and we also said "This is temporary Good-bye!". Thank you very much, Cathryn! We'll live everyday with the great memories with you!!

  • Cathryn's place is absolutely gorgeous. I stayed on the couch while my step mom had the private bedroom downstairs. The living room is cozy, with solar heat that stays on into the night. It was so fun to wake up in the middle of the night to see stars through those big windows!

Cathryn is a great host, very interesting to talk to and learn from. Very pleasant experience!
