The sea is right opposite your holiday flat in the traditional fishing village of Pittenweem. Watch the boats return to harbour in the evening and spot the sea life from your windows, or go for a stroll along the shore.
Thistle Flat offers self-catering accommodation for 2 or 3 adults, or a family with 2 children. *Ground floor entrance to a large front room, with kitchen, dining table, TV, comfy chairs and sofabed. *Separate en suite double bedroom. *Free parking outside the door.

The space
We offer guests an outstanding location, great accommodation and every attention to your health and safety. Thistle Flat is self-contained, so you can self-isolate if you wish. We will be following the latest official guidelines for anti-viral cleaning when we prepare for your arrival.
Please do send an enquiry if you need more information about our arrangements – we will be happy to discuss any concerns you have.

* Thistle Flat is a new conversion on the ground floor of a historic seafront house, built in 1874.
• It aims to provide accommodation suitable for all, including those who have mobility issues and need easy access. Please do contact the owners, Helen and Nigel, for more information; we will be happy to discuss your needs.
• Parking is available outside the front door, or in the numerous seafront spaces across the road. All spaces are free of charge.
• The bedroom can be arranged as either one king-size or two single beds. Please let us know in advance which arrangement you require. A third family member could sleep on the large sofa bed in the living room. (So 3 separate beds are possible.)
* For parents with two children, we suggest two singles for the children in the bedroom. The sofabed in the sitting room can convert into a double for the parents. (Several families have tried this out and were very happy!)
* We can supply a travel cot and a child-size mattress - both can go in the bedroom.
* The Flat is not suitable for two couples.
• There is access to the courtyard garden (with table and chairs) through the bedroom.
• We are happy to welcome ONE well-behaved dog. Please tell us if you plan to bring your dog so that we can discuss its needs in advance and be suitably prepared.

Guest access
The flat is your own private space. You can also use the courtyard garden at the rear of the house.

Other things to note
* Free wi fi is available, plus smart TV and DVD player. We offer a wide selection of DVDs for your evenings in, plus games and books.
• In addition to a kettle, toaster, fridge and electric hob, the kitchen contains a combi-microwave (which can grill and bake), a small dishwasher, and a washer/dryer for clothes.
* Washing-up liquid, laundry powder and dishwasher tablets are supplied.
• Welcome pack of food items, normally tea bags, carton of milk and 6 local eggs.
• Bed linen and towels supplied.
• Toilet paper, bath mat and a non-slip shower mat are supplied in the shower room. We do not currently offer personal care items such as soap, shampoo and shower gel.

* There is normally no extra cleaning charge, on the understanding that you leave the flat tidy. Please wash up and take out the rubbish before you leave.

Location

Pittenweem, Scotland, United Kingdom

Pittenweem is on the Fife coastal path, very popular for both short strolls and serious hikes. It is 20 minutes’ drive from the historic university town of St Andrews, the home of golf. You can easily drive (or walk) to the other seaside towns of the East Neuk: Crail, Anstruther, St Monans and Elie. Kellie Castle, the Secret Bunker and Kingsbarns Distillery are popular attractions nearby.
But you may simply want to stay put, watching life on the shore and exploring Pittenweem. The village has a thriving artists’ community with a selection of galleries displaying their work; there are several cafes and the new licensed Dory Bistro and Gallery on East Shore. Walk along the piers for views of the last working fishing harbour in the East Neuk.
If you come during the autumn or winter, remember to bring warm outdoor clothes as it can be cold!

I am an associate lecturer with the Open University and an author of history books. My husband Nigel and I moved to Pittenweem in 2016 when we had the chance to buy our historic Thistle House on Mid Shore. In April 2018 we opened Thistle Flat for holiday lets on the ground floor. Pittenweem is a village we have known and loved for many years because my sister Ruth, a lecturer at St Andrews University, lives here. In 2018 Ruth, now retired (early!), and her partner Calum, a professional artist, opened The Dory Bistro and Gallery on East Shore. We are all keen to welcome visitors to enjoy the very special atmosphere of Pittenweem.
