Description

The Space

Your home away from home. Clean and comfy, relaxed and easy-going, the charm of an older house with modern updates. The bed has a new full/double memory-foam mattress. Comfortable workspace/desk with fast internet. Part of the 'charm' of an older house like this is that there is only one bathroom, so it is shared (with me, your hostess). Non-smokers only, please.

A full/double mattress is slightly smaller than a queen. It sleeps two people. Everyone who has stayed has raved about how comfortable the mattress is!

Guest Access

Please make yourself at home and feel free to hang out! There's plenty of space: living room, dining room, and the back patio and garden. And definitely feel free to soak in the hot tub!

Light use of the kitchen is permitted. Guests are provided with everything needed to make coffee or tea, and for breakfast you may help yourself to bread, fruit, eggs, and instant oatmeal. Please see the house rules for details.

Interaction with Guests

I'm a social person and love to chat and visit, but if you're not up for that, no problem! Just let me know what you prefer.

The Neighborhood

The historic Rose Garden neighborhood in San Jose features homes built mostly between 1900 and 1940, and is a mixture of Victorians and bungalows. Huge sycamore trees line the streets. The ubiquitous Starbucks is a block away, SCU is 3 blocks away, and the actual Rose Garden and nearby Rosicrucian Egyptian museum are about a 20-minute walk.

Getting Around

Located just one block from a major thoroughfare (the street name is "The Alameda"). The VTA buses run frequently (route 22), and the Santa Clara Caltrain station is about a 20-minute walk. Also very close to San Jose Airport (8 minute drive).

It is only an 8-minute drive from San Jose Airport. In a traditional taxi, you will probably pay only the minimum $15 fare. But you should be using Lyft or Uber instead. Get $10 off your first Lyft with promo code JUDIE20, or $20 off your first Uber with promo code 5z63rr.

Other Things to Note

This is an early-to-bed, early-rise household. Quiet after 10pm, and I typically am up around 6am. This is a small house with hardwood floors, and sounds carry, so when everyone is on the same general time-schedule, it's much more copacetic and harmonious.

I have two friendly cats. They are quiet and well-behaved, and do not get on the tables or kitchen counters.

The house and back yard has been lovingly updated/renovated, with only two rooms left: the kitchen and laundry, which show their age without shame. Your stay here is helping fund the upcoming kitchen renovation. :-)

Check-in is available after 4pm and preferably before 10pm. If you will be arriving after 10pm, please consult with me before booking. I personally check-in every guest on their first visit to my home. To help manage my busy schedule, I ask that my guests pick a 30-minute “check-in appointment” time. This is necessary so I can schedule my commitments for both before and after your check-in time. A few days prior to your arrival, I will ask you to choose your 30-minute check-in appointment (for example, 4:15PM-4:45PM, or 6:00pm-6:30PM, or 8:45PM-9:15PM, etc.). One common misconception about Airbnb hosts is that since this is our home, we are here all the time and guests can just show up whenever. But that actually isn’t the case, I have a life, and places to go and people to meet. A check-in appointment makes life easier.

House Rules
No smoking
No parties or events
Not infant-friendly (0-2 years)
Check-in time is 4PM - 9PM.

* Absolutely No Smokers. If you are a smoker, please find different accommodations immediately. No smoking on the property.
* Check-in is available between 4:00pm and 9:30pm, unless alternate check-in time is agreed upon prior to booking. Please choose a 30-minute window in which you will arrive (for example, between 6:30pm-7:00PM).
* Quiet after 10pm (or after hostess has retired for the evening), especially since it is a smaller house with wood floors, and sounds do carry. This includes TV, music, phone call volume, etc. You don't have to turn it off, just keep the volume low.
* I am willing to consider pets on a case-by-case basis (pets must be specifically approved prior to booking).
* Use coasters under drinks on all wood furniture.
* Shoes are fine in the house, but not on the furniture or bed linens.
* Checkout is 11:00 AM unless prior arrangements have been made.

KITCHEN USE:
* Kitchen use is limited to preparing breakfast (coffee/tea, toast, fruit, instant oatmeal), simple food prep (sandwiches, etc.) and use of the microwave and toaster oven.
* Use of the stove, oven, pots, pans, etc is not included.

ACCESS:
* Common areas you may access include your bedroom, the bathroom, living room, dining room, kitchen, laundry room and back yard.
* Off limits are the Hostess' bedroom, office, basement and garage.

WATER AND PLUMBING:
* Please conserve water. We're having a severe drought.
* Turn off water when brushing teeth, shaving, or washing dishes.
* Short showers (under 10 minutes if possible).
* Open window when showering.
* Put the toilet lid down.
* Do not flush tampons (sorry, but the alternative is much worse).
* Please hang your wet towels. Do not leave damp towels on the furniture or the floor.

CATS:
* Do not let the cats out at night.
* Do not feed the cats "people food".

HOT TUB:
* Do not sit on the cover.
* Absolutely no drinks/beverages on, in or near the hot tub.
* Please use beach towels (not bath towels).

INTEGRITY:
Airbnb provides a great service, as well as protections to both the host and guest. They deserve to be compensated accordingly. As such, all reservations, payments and pre-booking communication must be done through this website. If you want to transact outside of Airbnb, this is not the listing you are looking for.

I am a high-tech gal with a love for travel, gardening, cooking, wine and DIY projects. I have been to over 20 countries, and yet I feel like I've barely scratched the surface. Mi casa es su casa, so when you're here, make yourself at home and feel free to relax and put up your feet. Need help planning your stay? I'd be happy to help with local info and resources.
