Welcome to the David Finney Inn. Situated on the Delaware River below Philadelphia, the pre-colonial town of New Castle, Delaware is unique in having original structures dating to the 17th and 18th century.
The historic roots of the town and its buildings, including an historic courthouse and several museums, create a unique destination for students of history and tourists. This historic area has recently received designation from the Federal government as a National Historic Park.

The space
The guest accommodation is located on the top floor of the David Finney Inn. The Inn is located in the center of the historic district, across the street from the Historic Court house museum. Four restaurants are located within two blocks of the Inn, giving guests ample opportunity to enjoy meals ranging from colonial fare to light lunch.

Guest access

Locally, Battery Park area extends south along the Delaware River from the historic district. This lovely green space provides 2 miles of paved bike and walking trails extending through woods and marshlands providing exceptional observation of wildlife and natural areas.

The town of New Castle is important to the Nation's history. It was here that William Penn, received his land grant for all of Pennsylvania and the lower three counties. The Dutch settled New Castle in the mid-1600s. It served as the original port on the Delaware River, preceding both the ports of Wilmington and Philadelphia. The older historic homes of New Castle, represent a connection to these historic events. Each can tell a unique story of the inhabitants and the roles these individual home owners played in a young developing nation.

In addition to New Castle's 5 historic museums, the town is conveniently located within 45 minutes of several major attractions in the Brandywine River Valley. These include: Winterthur Museum, hosting some of the finest examples of historic American furniture available, the botanical gardens of Longwood Gardens, and Hagley Museum, the original gunpowder works of the DuPont Corporation.
