Bedarieux is divided by the River d'Orb with local amenities within walking distance of Maison Jacques. There is a food market held on a Monday with a brocante and Bio marche on a Saturday. Being only a stone's throw from the River you are bound to spot wildlife such as Kingfishers; brown trout; mallades, swallows, swifts and more and you walk in to town. Bedarieux offers an excellent choice of cafes, restaurants and supermarkets together with tabac, boulangerie and boucherie. Located in the Languedoc-Roussilon, one of the largest wine growing regions in Europe, you are surrounded by Roman and Templar history. The Roquefort mines are waiting to be explored as well as sampling a taste from the south of France. The outdoor swimming pool is available to the public during July and August or a short drive to the River at Roquebrun where people sunbathe and swim. The Mediterranean sea and sandy beaches are approximately an hour away by car. Lac Salagou provides a wide range of water sports with summer bar-b-qs and pique-nique areas. Visiting Maison Jacques will open your eyes to a beautiful part of the world to either sit and watch the people passing by or to get involved and be busy.
The bus station is just over the River and the routes will take you anywhere in the vicinity of Bedarieux making connections to Beziers, Montpelier, Millau, Clermont l'Herault and Lodeve. If you have a UK bus pass bring this with you as you are able to use this form of identification to benefit from a discounted price. The railway station is 6 minutes away from Maison Jacques and the connection is on the TGV line with links to the rest of Europe. Local transport is very reasonable as it is currently subsidised by the Government. The local airport is Cap d'Agde/Beziers with other airports including Nimes, Carcasonne, Montpelier and Perpignan. You will need to double check as not all these airports open throughout the year.
The house is non smoking throughout. Please note that sound carries and your host would ask you to respect her neighbours.
