Peaceful, cabin-esque home in the woods!

Great spot to unplug and enjoy the sounds, scents, and feel of the natural world.

Ideal for personal or small group retreats (creative, writing, meditation), small family or other reunions, as a basecamp from which to explore the arts, outdoors, and rest of what W Mass offers; or for a quiet pause for a night en route to somewhere else!

Everyone welcome!

The space
A Place for Peace is a simple yet lovely home on a beautiful piece of property that offers the feel of camping or a cabin, but better appointed than one would expect of either.

In the 1900sf house you'll find bright colors mixed with natural wood and lots of windows, creating a welcoming, warm yet vibrant, and cheerful interior.
Most of the 16 acres are wooded, and include a walking trail, several designated spots for pitching a tent (should a more rustic experience suit some in your party), and plenty of places to sit or swing or nap or read under the big open sky or tucked in the trees.

2 campfire rings offer opportunities for lovely evenings of fire, story-telling, singing, or just looking at the stars.

The property is more wild than manicured, though includes some ornamental grasses, flowers, mowed grass.

Guests are welcome to enjoy spacious living area, dining room, campfires, small front and back porches, hammock, and walking trail.

Take your bowl of cereal outside to add freshly picked wild blueberries or raspberries, sit by the campfire and watch stars, tell stories, make s'mores, or get some music going. Feel like baking? There's rhubarb growing, and your host loves a good strawberry rhubarb pie!

The space itself is quirky, filled with original photo and other work and messaging.
You'll make coffee in the clouds, and go to sleep on the leaves (ok, so I got a little carried away painting floors this spring!)

Where you’ll be

Williamsburg, Massachusetts, United States

A Place for Peace is 1.5 miles off the main road (it's all up hill to the house, and paved right until the driveway), 3 miles to the center of town (Williamsburg), and 10 miles from Northampton.

The road is quiet. Neighbors wave as they walk or drive by one another, let their dogs walk off-leash, and their kids rides bike in the road (there are no sidewalks!).

Birds, chipmunk, squirrels, and field mice are regulars in the yard (and yes, sometimes they find their way into the garage, ceiling or house). Racoon, fox, deer, and black bear roam these woods and even the road at dawn and dusk. If you're lucky, you might get to see one or more of them!

Cell service is limited (ok for texting but you need to find just the right spot to talk), there's no cable service, and I don't even have a TV.

There is internet access and a 'landline,' both pretty reliable.

There are ample places for walking right from the property, and other places for walking or paddling just a short drive away.

There are few things I enjoy more than meeting people, seeing things I've never seen, and doing things I've never done. I'm a sociologist (social psychologist) by training and by nature - always curious, easily interested. I am particularly fond of good, thoughtful conversation, hot dark-roast coffee, spending time outdoors, starry nights, creatures of all sorts. I love spending time with people from places and who live lives quite different from my own, and contributing to the richness of travelers' and tourists' experiences. I've spent a season as a Winter Innkeeper on Cape Cod, and a full season living in a tent at a hostel in southern Florida and working as an interpretive guide in Everglades National Park, and have long imagined turning my home and property into a mini-retreat or B&B-esque place. Hosting through AirBnB is something like trying on the fantasy/dream/vision.

During your stay

When I'm available, I really do like to have some interaction with guests. For me, hosting is at least in part about meeting people, hearing bits about the lives others live, sharing my space and my journey. But, I also like my personal space and privacy and respect that of others'.

I greet and offer introduction to the house to all guests (and ask that you provide your eta on the day of arrival and updates if it changes).
After that, I am available when needed (rarely more than a few minutes away), and do come and go from the property as I need to tend to the yard, garage, etc.

If you are looking for a higher level of 'total privacy,' let's talk. Most things can be arranged.
