About this listing
This gorgeous private contemporary Lumbung sits on a large garden property with 2 other homes. It is available for short term rent, possibly as long as several months at a time. For 2 adults or a couple with infant baby only. Contact me for availability.
The Lumbung, a building that was once so ubiquitous in Bali, is almost impossible to find these days in the modern world of Bali's cement box "villas". This home is a rare treat for anyone looking to experience a closer look at local life in Bali and to feel truly at home away from home. Emmerse yourself in the nature that surrounds my property. Guests enjoy a quiet and very private stay in a traditional Balinese farming village. You can watch the daily routines of the local farmers as they pass by, hear the neighbor's cow mooing, watch ducks grazing in the rice fields, and take long gorgeous walks into the serenity and emerald green magic of surrounding rice fields.
The 2 story thatched roof Ubud Lumbung sits on a large, very private, quiet, lush garden property with two other homes. The Lumbung offers hip design and lots of comfort. My Lumbung includes wireless internet, fully equipped kitchen: with oven, blender, toaster, juicer, and large fridge, a simply stylish outdoor bathroom with koi pond, bamboo flooring upstairs, and an amazing rice field view to the east and full moon rise, private garden view to the west, and woven bamboo walls which keep the house cool day and night.
The Contemporary Eco Bali-style Lumbung is located 10 minutes drive outside of Ubud so some form of transportation is essential. I recommend a motor scooter but car rentals are easy to find or you also have the option of hiring a car with driver.
The Munivara Ashram is just around the corner for afternoon yoga classes or kirtan in the evenings. There are now several warungs and restaurants within walking distance in the neighborhood; Labak Sari, Happy Warung, Mandiri Warung just across the street from Om Ham and nicer restaurants at Om Ham and Puri Sunia resort.
Our family keeps several animals; Shirley the goat, Vic and Bianca our 2 watchdogs, and Pepper the cat. They are all cared for by the staff but do roam freely throughout the property (Shirley is kept tied up at all times). If you don't like animals this is probably not the right place for you.
My lumbung is staffed with the family’s housekeeper who provides house cleaning and laundry services.
Interaction with guests
I am available via email if there are any issues my staff cannot address during your stay.
Other things to note
Keeping the driveway gate closed at all times is extremely important so villagers are not driving down my driveway and parking in front of the garage. Thanks for your consideration to this matter.
Firstly and most importantly. There are 2 dogs and 1 cat that live on the property. They do enjoy visiting guests from time to time. If you do not like animals this is not the place for you.
- Front gate must be closed at all times - no exceptions
- Wet towels should never be draped over furniture
- We live beside ricefields where (heaven forbid) rats live. Leftover food will attact them into the house if food is left out or thrown into the garden. - All food scraps must be thrown in the compost bin so it can be disposed of by staff at the end of the day.
- ALL food stuffs MUST be kept in containers or in the fridge to keep those nasties away.
- Lights turned off when not at home.
- House must be locked when out.
- Windows closed during the rainy season when going out.
- Dogs are not allowed in the house.

I have lived in Ubud, for over 28 years, working as an artist and designer. I designed, built, and furnished each of the homes on my large garden property. I enjoy sharing my Bali experience with anyone who is interested.
