Interaction with Guests
Your host Dan is friendly, but sensitive to your privacy. He is happy to make you a latte or espresso, to provide directions, or to recommend a restaurant or local business, but equally happy letting you enjoy the common areas of the house without interruption.
The Overhulse house is on a rise overlooking downtown Olympia. It is on the edge of the West Olympia neighborhood, and is walking distance of anything happening downtown: government offices, the Olympia Farmers Market, the waterfront, restaurants, the Bayview market, etc.
The house is less than two blocks from two different transit lines, and is 5 blocks away from the Olympia transit center.
Dan was a great host! He even provided us with some food! House is in a great location for getting to downtown via walking. Great price.
He provided a great variety of breakfast items, snacks and wine! Nice touch! He also least left some travel guide information for us as well as responded quickly to our request for restaurant and beach recommendations. The upstairs was nice and clean and spacious for our family of five. The bathrooms upstairs were a bit unconventional and tricky for the taller people in our group, but ecclectic. We were disappointed to see that the kitchen was pretty grimy and there was a smell from all the spoiled food in the fridge. The fridge had some sort of water problem and it caused drawers to be frozen shut. Lots of appliances seemed to be broken and in disarray or unanchored. The yard is quite overgrown, but all in all an affordable stay in an historic house with fresh black berries and apples for the picking.
Dan was a great host and we felt very welcome at his place. The space allows for exclusive use of the second floor and shared use of the living, dining and kitchen space downstairs. It was VERY convenient to all the things we were doing in Olympia. We walked/ran around Capital Lake (only steps away) every day (several times!). Dan provided a short handbook so we knew how things operated in the house. He also was very generous about having food in the house to which we were welcome, including breakfast staples and a number of different treats. Super-comfortable beds! Gorgeous views from the main bedroom. A great experience overall.
Daniel was a GREAT host! Super nice guy and very accommodating. The house is in a wonderful location. We were able to easily walk to downtown Olympia and the farmers market, Capitol, etc.
Daniel is a welcoming and generous host, his warm and rambling house easily accommodated five adults, giving us room to spread out (website hidden) Rainier greets us when we look out the front window. The neighborhood is lovely, and downtown Olympia is easily walkable. The house is within easy driving of Olympic National Forest. We had a wonderful visit to Olympia, thanks largely to Dan's hospitality.
Daniel was very welcoming! I stayed at Overhulse with my husband and two friends. We all thought the house was a winner, and found Daniel a great host. He stocked yogurt, chocolate, fruit and muffins for our breakfast. He even baked us muffins the second day! The washer/dryer was available if we needed it. The house is located an easy 10 minute walk from downtown Olympia. Great view of the Sound, the capitol building, and a sweet backyard.
Daniel gave us a great recommendation for a hike at Olympia national park, and a ferry ride to Seattle. We'd be happy to stay with him again if we make it back to Olympia!
About the Host, Daniel
I am a software developer and musician who has lived in Olympia for 6 years, and in the Northwest for several decades. I love to get outdoors all year round, to have a great dinner, to spend time with friends, and to make music (outside of the house, mostly).
