Interaction with Guests
Other than check-in and check-out, guests will not need to have contact with owners (who live on site in separate apartment) unless they wish to have some information not already provided in guest information materials. Your hosts have lived in the area for over 30 years, and are happy to share their love of the area and knowledge about locat attractions. The accommodations provide privacy, but we are available to chat if you feel like it :-)
The Valdarno Superiore (= upper Arno valley) runs between Florence and Arezzo. It features wonderful medieval towns, fine vineyards (some prize-winning super Tuscans!) and fabulous places to eat, from your village pizzeria to elegant restaurants. Weekly markets in all towns, numerous fashion outlets, and of course wonderful people!
A car is necessary, but if you are tired of driving, take the train into Florence (or to Cortona, Assisi, Orvieto, Pisa) from Montevarchi, where free long-term parking is available, and there are frequent trains on the Florence-Rome route. The owners of il Poggiolo commute to work in Florence, so it is easy to access the city from our location.

About the Host, Sara
Both Sara and Allen are Renaissance historians who live at il Poggiolo and commute to work in Florence. Maintaining this 8 hectare property and its buildings is not easy, which is why it has to help support itself.
We therefore renovated radically in 2006, since when we have been renting accommodations in this traditional Tuscan villa (both the independent part of the main villa on two floors, listed here, and the "Fienile," a renovated barn coming soon on Airbnb). We rent during Spring, Summer and Fall (not so much in winter as heating these large spaces is prohibitve).
Il Poggiolo is ideally located for day trips, located only 30-45 min. from the major sites of historic and cultural interest. There are also excellent markets in the areas, wonderful restaurants (from village pizzerias to Michelin stars), a number of designer outlets (Prada only 2 km. from house), and warm and welcoming people.
We are NEW to Airbnb, but have received rave reviews to date on other websites (the latest was that il Poggiolo proveded the best holiday accommodation a diplomatic family had experienced in over 50 countries !!). We have also done a number of home exchanges, some of which have become annual swops.
We like to make sure your stay begins in comfort, which is why a welcome basket is provided to incoming guests with refreshments. A welcome binder with information on special things to do in the area supplements the many guide books.
