Interaction with Guests
I live in the house, I have my own private room, but the house is super large, 3 floors, then privacy won't lack.
It is located on top of the Santa Teresa hill, by the centre of Rio, and is famous for its winding, narrow streets which are a favourite spot for artists and tourists.
The neighborhood originated around the Santa Teresa Convent, built in the 1750s on the Desterro hill. At the end of the 19th and early 20th century it was an upper class borough, as testified by its magnificent mansions, many of which are still standing.
Santa Teresa ceased being an upper-class neighbourhood long ago, but it has been revived as an artistic hotspot. It is home to several artists and art studios and galleries. The offer of restaurants and bars is also varied.
One of Santa Teresa's most illustrious inhabitants was Raimundo Otoni Castro Maya, an art collector who lived in his Chácara do Céu mansion in the neighborhood. The mansion was turned into a museum (Museu da Chácara do Céu) and its exhibits include works by Matisse, Jean Metzinger, Eliseu Visconti, Di Cavalcanti, and Candido Portinari. It's located close to the cultural center Parque das Ruínas. In 2006, some paintings were stolen, and haven't been recovered yet.
Another museum is the Museu do Bonde, which tells the history of the famous Santa Teresa Tram since its historic origins. A ride on the tram is a popular attraction among tourists. It sports crossing the old Carioca Aqueduct, going through picturesque streets of the Santa Teresa neighbourhood and wonderful views of the city downhill.
There are 2 way to get here:
Via Shuttle Bus, 15BRL. Drop off at Gloria Metro Station, and then walk up the Rua Santo Amaro. But I dont recommend it in case you have heavy luggages,my street is very steep.
Via Cab, 55BRL. At the Airport, search for "Aero Coop Taxi" desk, tell them you are going to Rua Santo Amaro.
Please, dont go outside before paying at their desk, otherwise the drives can rip off (website hidden).: Dont change your money at the airport, its super expansive overthere, plus comissions. If its possible, just change a little bit for taxi or whatever. Close to my place there is a better place to change. Best rate,no comissions,ok? And we don't have garage but you can park the car in front of the house, the door man takes care of your car in case you need.
Respect the house, and the other guests.
Take care of your stuffs, and rubbish, but above all, enjoy it!!!
I came back to Rio after falling in love with the city on my trip through Brazil in March. I wanted to stay a while and really get into the spirit of the place ... And out of the tourist circuit . This place was the perfect way for me to do that. The neighborhood is vibrant and charming and super convenient to everything Rio has to offer. It's a great place to rest after busy days and nights and the terrace is really lovely . Andre is a wonderful host who will treat you like a friend from the moment you arrive . If you want to feel like you're a Carioca for a little while stay here ... And embrace Rio :)
I do not consider Andre a host, I consider him family!
So there I was, stuck at the GIG Rio International Airport after losing the only flight to Houston at 9pm. I had no where to go and didnt want to pay an outrageous cost to stay at a hotel. So I got on airbnb and searched for a places to stay but no one was accepting my requests with the exception of Andre. He went out of his way to make sure I had a place to stay for that night and Ill be for ever thankful.
Andre is an amazing host, but bettet friend. His home is very beautiful and his other guests are very nice people. The neighborhood is very safe and close to public transportation that would get you anywhere in the city. I would and will highly recommend him to anyone who wants to visit Rio!
Andre is nothing short of a first class host! I really enjoyed his friendship and his openness to share his beautiful house! Many thanks Andre!
Andre was a great host, very helpful, friendly, relaxed, informative. His house was in a quiet neighbourhood, not far from the shops and cafes of Santa Teresa and easy links with the rest of Rio by bus and metro, while you were virtually facing onto a jungle with monkeys and toucans from the patio.
Andre is a great host and his house is great. We stayed on the top floor and loved the terrace. Great for chilling in the afternoon/evening after walking around all day. It's a 10 minute walk down the hill to get groceries/other conveniences, but we didn't mind. Andre is very welcoming and an awesome guy. He will give you great tips for Rio!! I totally recommend his place if you want to be near Santa Teresa/Lapa. We walked back from the bars in Lapa late one night and felt totally safe. Also, the street cart burger lady down the street is awesome. $1.80 for a huge burger...great drunk food ;)
I had a great time during my stay with Andre! The house it just as pictured, with an old cottage charm feeling. The neighborhood centrally located within anything that you would need; bar, restaurant, grocery, pharmacy. And the Metro is a block away which is an added bonus! The house is on a hill, but if you get tired of walking, there are plenty of taxis around.
Andre was very friendly and hospitable. My friends and I came for New Years Eve, and he provided us with a multitude of tips on places to go, how to avoid the crowds, and staying safe. Definitely helpful! I would stay with Andre again should I return to Rio.
Andre was the ideal host for my stay in Rio! He's a true local, full of great advice and helpful information. He showed me around the neighbourhood and dedicated his time to making me feel welcome. This was my first Air bnb stay and I'm so grateful it was such a positive experience, so much more than what I expected. The house is delightful, beautifully decorated, quiet and very spacious. I loved relaxing up on my very own balcony. Thank you Andre for making my time in Rio so enjoyable. I definitely recommend this stay!

About the Host, Andre
“The best things in life are the simplest things. Sometimes I ask myself why I paddle out, catch a wave and paddle back out, over and over again, like a dog? It just feels good – simple as that.”
