Set in the heart of the Daniel Boone National Forest the Arthur Lakes Log Cabin is both easy to get to and relatively secluded.

Nestled in a small valley, this quaint cabin is a perfect mountain getaway. Built in 1890, by the Lakes family, it has a romantic, rustic and nostalgic feel. If you are a history buff, interested in Appalachian culture, or just want a charming, outdoorsy and secluded getaway, this cabin is for you. After making your reservation, be sure to check out the "House Manual".

The space
As they say, "you can't judge a book by its cover". This holds especially true for the "Arthur Cabin". Built in 1890 for William Lakes, Arthur and his wife, Lulu, moved in when William passed away. Arthur added the clapboard siding and the lean-to kitchen area in 1925. In the late 1970's Fletcher and Anne Gabbard ( my parents) purchased the property and added the front porch and rear deck, The interior looks much like it did in the 1920's.

Guest access
Entire cabin. The cabin has one bedroom with a queen bed, Living room, a working Kitchen with stove and refrigerator, and a Bathroom with a tub (there is a shower head. It is not ideal for tall folks, but can be done). There is also a 2-mile hiking trail, a pond, and 3 barns on the property.

Other things to note
We do not provide breakfast, but a working kitchen is available. Plan to bring any food with you if you wish to cook. This includes oils, spices, etc. There is a grocery store, and a local farmers market in Berea (45 minutes from the cabin), as well as a Dollar store , a Family Dollar, Save a Lot in McKee (10 minutes from the cabin). Additionally, phone reception here is spotty, at best, so do not rely solely on service for directions. There is a phone in the cabin for local calls, to contact me, or in case of emergencies (911).
Winter Reservations
Travel in this area can be tricky in winter. The cabin is located in a deep valley and the grade is steep. Pay particular attention to the weather for travel in both directions. If it snows, AT ALL, please consider cancelling your reservation. We will offer a full refund, in this case.
If it snows and you still want to come, be extremely careful. Unless you are experienced driving on snow and ice AND have a 4 wheel drive vehicle, we do not recommend you attempt this journey.
