Interaction with Guests
The bungalow allows for a private and cozy getaway set behind a completely separate house on the property where I reside with my quintessentially English-gentleman husband, Chris, a writer and professional birder, along with our small, friendly Bichon/Poodle dog, Oliver "Biggy" Biggleswade. We respect your privacy, yet are quickly available should you have any questions or require assistance.
LOCATION & HISTORY
The eclectic Boyes Hot Springs neighborhood of Sonoma is conveniently located a short three mile/10-minute drive to the historic and picturesque Sonoma Plaza, home of California's Bear Flag Republic, which is surrounded by many wine tasting rooms, restaurants, galleries and shopping. San Francisco Solano Mission, founded in 1823, was the last and most northerly of the 21 Franciscan missions of Alta California. It marked the northern end of "The King's Highway," El Camino Real. And it was the 21 Franciscan missions of Alta California. It marked the northern end of "The King's Highway," El Camino Real. And it was the only one of the California missions to be established under Mexican rule, independent of Spain.
Numerous local wineries are a short drive away. Recommendations are: Cline and Jacuzzi (two of the few still offering FREE tastings), as well as stunning Ram's Gate, are enroute to the bungalow, if coming up from San Francisco along CA-121N/Arnold Dr. Other lovely nearby wineries are Viansa, Gunlach Bundshu, Kunde, as well as Sebastiani, which is right off the plaza, and of course Buena Vista, California's first premier winery, established in 1857, is on the east side of Sonoma. Benziger Winery is a beautiful biodynamic and organic winery in Glen Ellen, on Jack London Ranch Road, just a scenic 5 mile drive away. Definitely worth a visit.
The world class, 5 star FAIRMONT SONOMA MISSION INN AND SPA is on the same street, just a few blocks away. Treat yourself to a luxurious spa treatment or take a yoga class at their exquisite Willow Stream Spa. Full day use is $89 per day for non-guests of the hotel. For "locals" who live within 100 miles take advantage of the special "GOOD NEIGHBOR" DAY USE RATE just $49, and 10% off spa treatments, offered Mon-Fri, pending availability. Contact Willow Stream Spa for details.
There are several eateries within walking distance--tasty taquerias, cafes and the Big 3, (the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn and Spa's family "bistro" restaurant). For a hot and hearty country breakfast, Mike's "Creekside Cafe" is just a short walk from the bungalow, over the little Sonoma Creek bridge. The Girl and the Fig at the main plaza never disappoints for a special dinner; we also love Cafe le Haye and Maya. The Glen Ellen Star in the nearby hamlet of Glen Ellen gets rave reviews, while the Community Cafe, with many delicious vegan and gluten-free options, at 875 W Napa Street, Sonoma is where locals eat breakfast and lunch and chat – give them a try!
If you'd like to prepare some of your own meals, there's also a full kitchen for your convenience.
