  • Michael was one of those personable, communicative, above-and-beyond hosts. There were lots of unexpected and fun treats waiting for us on arrival! Including bubbles and other toys for our daughter, and wine and beer chilling in the fridge for us. The reservation and check-in/out process was very smooth and easy, with good communication. The loft itself is comfortable, well-appointed, and in such a cool location right on the beach in a great little community. We followed several of his suggestions of local places to check out and loved them. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends.

Hi Carson, re: folks downstairs, great minds think alike! No problem I leave the tupperware so people can take things home. I will just replace them not to worry. So glad it was a good birthday experience, thanks for the nice review, please come again when you can. Mike

  • I echo Christopher's sentiment about hesitating to review a place I want so bad to be available next time we're planning to visit HMB (for the umpteenth time).

My (now) wife and I rented the upstairs unit for four days during our wedding weekend and we couldn't be more pleased with the experience.

We'd mentioned in passing that we were getting married and Michael and his team blew us away with an amazing first impression that included a welcome basket with wine and treats (plus music playing!) upon arrival.

The pictures do the rest of the place justice and don't lie -- it's an incredibly peaceful place with myriad options to have fun nearby: a short walk to The Old Princeton Landing (great bar!), stand-up paddle or kayaking in the bay, a short hike to view Mavericks, fishing charters, and lots of great food options.

And of course it's RIGHT ON THE MOTHER F-IN BEACH with a shared backyard patio type area (con Koi pond) and master chef area that's great for BBQ'ing. Perhaps better is the space just off the private parking area where you can settle into chairs and enjoy a book and/or glass of wine from a perch overlooking the dogs and families and fellow tourists taking the area in. Don't let the the shared component of the BBQ area deter, unless you're trying to duck federal agents and not be seen by anyone or something. It made for a cool way to meet the "neighbors", who were super cool and ended up sharing GIANT fresh salmon with us and visiting friends. The more the merrier!

    Last couple points:

    - unlike a bunch of places I've stayed this place has ben meticulously customized with guests in mind. All drawers etc. (even the shower settings) are labeled so you don't feel lost acclimating to the place. You never feel like you're crashing at someone's place while they're gone.

    - we took our dog and he loved it! it's a very dog friendly beach with miles of beach for dogs to run. I think he slept for four days after.

I'm sure my wife could add tons of commentary about the cool little touches with the decor and whatnot, and I surely appreciated it, but I'll save you my surely feeble attempt.

In sum: never stay here. Evar. It's terrible and Michael is not accommodating or welcoming at all ;) In fact, just stay away from Half Moon Bay. I've heard Pacifica is where all the cool kids stay anyway...

    Response from Michael:

Thanks so much Geoff, you guys are the best! Please come back soon, Pacifica not withstanding! :o)

  • I hesitate to rave about this place because I want it all to myself! But that's bad karma. The loft was a perfect place to escape from it all and be surrounded by the beauty of Half Moon Bay - the waves, the view and the food. The loft itself is full of personal touches and great design that make it a joy to spend time in and come back to. Mike and Carole are warm and welcoming hosts who make arrival a delight and can provide you with great recommendations for food and activities during your stay. I would definitely book here again.

  • Amazing place, and the location was incredible. While I surfed, my wife biked the coastal trail. We enjoyed the loft so much we didn't even head out to eat, and we could of...it's near everything. We'll be back. 5+ Stars.

  • Micheal was very accommodating, had wine crackers and other goodies for us to eat and drink. He even took the time to write my name on the board welcoming me. His place was majestic with great views of the ocean. He had bikes for us and also had a fireplace going at night. He told us the local food and bar places to go which was walking distance from his place. He is definitely attentive to details and an A plus host.

  • What a nice stay. Our hosts couldn't be any nicer. Very mellow and sweet people. They brought us nice gifts!

As far as the loft went, the inside of the place was very clean, and it was recently remodeled. Very nice. There was enough space to have an extra sleeper, although you won't get a ton of privacy because it is a flat, but it will still be comfortable. The bed was comfortable enough, but not a vegas suite. The real benefit is that if you stay for several days, you have a nice kitchen, which means if you get tired of seafood, you're in good shape, and you get a nice sunset view from the beautiful bay windows in front.

Location-wise, you're right by the marina at Mavericks in half-moon bay. With a few decent restaurants, the area isn't vacant, but it definitely has a nice sleepy feeling to it. You're also parked right on the beach(literally) about 10 minutes from the best Surf on the coast! You're also walking distance from the best bar in the whole town, so if you want to have a few drinks, you don't need to drive.

All in all, a great stay!

Tribal Art Gallery
Greetings! My name is Michael and I run the Tribal Art Gallery located below the Loft & above the Garden Flat. I love the Half Moon Bay area as it has so much variety, including the wonderful marina, and our local West Point beach, adjacent to Mavericks Big Wave surf Beach. Half Moon Bay has a quaint downtown with lots of amazing restaurants, and a variety unusual Art, as well as amazing shopping opportunities. Renting the Loft is my way of sharing the HMB experience I enjoy with others. I live in the Redwood Forest in the Santa Cruz Mts, but am close by & always available for the needs of guests. The gallery is by appointment, so foot traffic is minimal
