A memorable stay awaits at this beautiful mountain escape. The WGL offers a 1,740 sq ft PRIVATE access lower apartment on 5 acres featuring stunning views, a relaxing retreat and farm adventures abound.
Located along Mossyspring Creek overlooking Paris Mountain, Wandering Goat Lodge is just 5 miles from downtown Blacksburg & VA TECH Campus. The space sleeps 6 and can accommodate more upon request.
It's the perfect spot to be "near town" yet embrace nature and the surrounding valley mountains.
The space
The Wandering Goat Lodge offers close proximity to Blacksburg paired with unique experiences including breathtaking views and the unique opportunity to pet goats, take a private mountain walk or hike the old fire trail to the top of the mountain to watch the sunset and genuinely unwind.
We are pet friendly.
We encourage farm animal interaction between the fences with the goats and donkeys and offer bags of grain for you to use. Additional "resort-like" experiences can be added to your stay including: in-pen cuddling or feeding interactions, a majestic bonfire set with "unlimited" wood, a day of experiencing farm-chores for the kids, or a host-escorted ATV ride to the top of the ridge.
Your LARGE 2-bedroom, fully-furnished PRIVATE ACCESS apartment faces the mountain on the lower level of my home. A key-less entry allows your access from your private parking area. The stair space between the living quarters is secured with multiple locks on both sides and divided with sound-proofing materials and additional door at bottom of the stairway. We have not fully blocked this stair because we allow expansion to book the entire property if you wish for larger groups.
Watch for the WGL Goat signs to lead you here... Your adventure begins from the minute you turn off the main road and make your approach to the lodge...Cows on the right, goats on the left... take the rustic drive to the lodge, and find a hidden beach tucked along the creek, or take the easy path and find the animals to greet you along the way...nature's ambience is part of the experience and what makes WGL special.
Please note that even though we are rural -- we actually have FIBER OPTIC Internet installed Jan 2021-- the speeds are faster than Blacksburg so downloading movies or working remotely will be no problem.
While we ARE pet friendly, there is a $100 pet fee/2 animals with additional charge of $50 for a third charge to cover some extra cleaning needs. We also offer a dog crate and have an outdoor fenced kennel with dog houses if you need to use it.
We embrace "mountain-living" but you can drive a sedan, except when the weather really gets bad.
Guest access
You will have a private entrance with key-pad lock and complete access to the lower level apartment in my home.
There are two basement entry/access doors for you to exit the space as you wish. A Parking pad is directly in front of the entrance to the lodge.
There are motion sensor lights to help guide you at night.
Follow the B&W signs and turn at the WELCOME sign on the left and approach the lodge through the main gate.
OR drive the gravel road and turn left at top (just past the house) and navigate around the back side of the lodge until you see the plateau that says "Parking."

Some interactions require host to be involved or on site and thus incur fees:
--Donkeys & Goats are friendly & Enjoy Treats- FREE to interact between fence-- treat bag included when you check in.
- Extra animal Cuddling/petting in the pens - $25 for 4 ppl 30 min
- Pets welcome. $100 pet fee per 2 animals. Additional $50 for a third
- ATV rides - depends on time and # of people.
- Dog Crate - FREE
- Bonfires- $35 - unlimited wood for the night

Located 5 miles from Blacksburg and Virginia Tech in the Blue Ridge Mountains ... Ellett Valley is a quaint, rural "Sunday-Drive" destination. We are just outside of town with rolling hills supporting generations of Farm-living historic homesteads, stunning views and close access to the "trifecta" of iconic hikes on the Appalachian Trail. A mountainside farm in the the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, we are near town -- but just far enough to decompress and and embrace breath-taking natural beauty. We encourage you to do this daily. The Catawba Road of Ellett Valley remains a predominately family-owned farming commuity with a deep heritage of looking out for one another. Let your pets run. Let your children explore the property. It will probably be one of the safest places you ever stay -- and definitely one of the most beautiful.

I am a Blacksburg native. It's a beautiful place to live, visit, and raise a family. My family has owned this land for three generations. I welcome you to experience a morning sunrise with the goats, take a stroll along the rolling landscapes or sit on the beautiful creek-side beach. Here you are close to nature, and town at the same time-- I think it's the perfect balance.
