My 1BR on Madison's Isthmus is across the street from beautiful Tenney Park. One block south of Lake Mendota, a block west of the bike path, four blocks from eating/shopping on Willy/Johnson Streets, and half a block from the bus line, it's a gem.
Guests will have access to the whole apartment and coin-free washer and dryer in the basement.
Interaction with Guests
I will greet all guests, whenever possible, and walk them though the apartment and answer any questions. I am also happy to be there when they check-out if that is preferable. In the event I am not there to greet guests, I will conscientiously ahead of time how to pick up keys. I will be staying just twenty minutes away with family, and therefore can be on call via text, mobile, and email for any emergencies, questions, other forms of assistance.
Our house is located on a block with a stop for multiple major bus lines (very easy to get to the Capitol (1 mile away) and UW campus (2.2 miles away).
Other Things to Note
I've been fortunate to have the most lovely guests who have very much enjoyed the space and their stay. One guest in February 2015 found the lack of cable television, the stairs leading up to the apartment, and the 1920s bathroom wanting (see reviews). To be clear: 1) there is a small television with digital rabbit ears, but no cable. PBS (I'm a nerd) and major non-cable channels come in crystal clear, but if you are an avid cable watcher and this is a deal-breaker for your vacation, then regrettably my apt. is not the space for you; 2) indeed, the house sits up high in elevation and thus has a long-ish staircase leading up to it, along with one flight of stairs up to my second floor abode; quite regrettable, this is not ADA compliant, and it might pose a problem for a guest who struggles with stairs; 3) our house is an old 1920s tudor and has limited heat in the bathroom only (the rest of the house is steam heat and quite toasty), so slippers in the winter are helpful (what can I say? "character" in a home comes with minor drawbacks *wink*); 4) contrary to one review, I do provide shampoo, toothpaste, body soap and lotion for guests, located in the bathroom closet, guaranteed.
My "house rules" ask guests to treat the space just as they would their own home (with respect for the things they love and in which they have invested). I prefer to book the apartment to traveling professionals, couples, visiting academics, and small families as opposed to groups interested in a football party weekend or an enthusiastic gang of bachelorettes (as fun as these visitors can be, I know from experience they are less fun for hotel room cleaning staff (wink)).
-NO pets (regrettably, because I do love the furry creatures)
-please be conscientious about ensuring that the house and apartment doors are locked securely when you come and go
-please be mindful of the other tenants (a nice couple who live on the first floor)
-be considerate to take your shoes off before entering the apartment if it is raining or snowing outside
Loved it! Sigrid is kind, accommodating and has a wonderful place to stay. The house is even more charming than the pictures show, impeccably clean and in a prime location near ice skating, the co-op and a variety of great restaurants. We're looking forward to a return trip :)
This is the top floor of a 1920's home that sits above a busy street. There is no parking on the property so you need to park across the busy street. You need to climb 36 steps from the street to the apartment door. Inside, you will find an eclectically furnished apartment with and no tv, no heat in the bathroom. Not a good choice in the winter. Bring your own soap and shampoo, because none is provided.
My boyfriend & I had a great experience - Sigrid's home is very clean and homey. There are so many nooks to cozy up and read a book! Her apartment is also very close to many yummy restaurants, fun bars and a food co-op. Lovely location!
Wonderful! Sigrid's flat so clean, so beautiful and within walking distance to everything we wanted to see and do!
Sigrid's apartment was in a great location. It was easy to park for free on the street nearby. It had everything I needed for my weekend stay and was very cozy to come home to in the cold weather. Charmingly decorated and a great size for a couple. Sigrid was very responsive and made sure to check-in on me, although everything was very clean and she had made sure to organize and arrange for everything in advance. My first AirBnB experience and it was a great one!
Everything was great. Place is lovely. Across from a pretty lake and close to good food and the Capitol. Sigrid was very accommodating and got a problem with the heat fixed right away. I'll definitely stay there again next time I'm in town.
Sigrid's apartment is very comfortable and incredibly thoughtful in its amenities and finishes. The kitchen is well stocked with any cookware and utensils one would need and the bed is fantastic. The location is incredibly convenient for exploring all that Madison has to offer. Sigrid was very understanding and flexible when a navigational error on my part pushed our arrival back over an hour from the time I originally told her we'd be arriving. Once we showed up Sigrid made sure we had everything we needed and gave us some great recommendations for dinner and breakfast (The Weary Traveller and Marigold Kitchen were delicious!). This was a wonderful place to stay and we'd recommend it to anyone heading to Madison!
Thanks for considering my listing. I'm Sigrid and I'm a graduate student and researcher living in Madison. If you choose to book my 1-bedroom, when not out of town for conferences or on vacation, I'll just be staying about twenty minutes away with family, and can assist you immediately if you need anything while visiting the city. I am a social scientist and journalism student. I study labor markets, social theory, urban places, and the restructuring of higher education. Any extra income I make from an airbnb booking helps me buy books and supplies for school, and supplements my slim grad student researcher's salary...so you'll be supporting a kindly student as well as the pursuit of knowledge, I hope. Looking forward to hosting you!
