About this listing
Beautiful wooden chalet overlooking Bantry Bay on the Sheeps Head. Within 2 miles of the town centre and all it's amenities. Designed for people craving an idyllic setting to relax, but close enough to all the attractions Bantry has to offer.
The Cabin is a beautiful, welcoming natural space that is always warm and bright. Situated on the famous walking path; The Goats Path and The Wild Atlantic Way. The cabin is off the main road and enjoys a peaceful and tranquil setting overlooking the sea. It is within two miles of Bantry and one mile from The Westlodge Hotel and Leisure Centre.
The house is fully detached and is on a quiet road less than five minutes drive from Bantry town centre, where there are shops, pubs, restaurants, banks, a cinema and a very good outdoor market every Friday. Our house where we live is just next door, so if you need anything from a bowl of sugar to advice on where to go and what to do, we're right here! There is also secure parking and storage space in our garage for bikes/strollers etc.
Interaction with Guests
We are happy to show you around and we have two little girls that are aged five and three, they are full of life and joy. We also have a dog and a cat. The cat is never in the cabin. You can help yourself to salad and whatever is growing in the polytunnels and around the garden.
Our neighbourhood is so nice and peaceful, we are on the Beach/Dromcloc road which is adjacent to the main road, which means we don't have the traffic of other roads. A ten minute scenic walk in one direction and you arrive at the airstrip with it's breathtaking views and ocean-side walk into town. Whilst going five to ten minutes in the opposite direction you arrive at a secluded seaside beach fed by an ambling river. You couldn't ask for more.
There is a regular bus service, Bus Eireann 236, between Bantry, and Cork. If we are home(Which we usually are) we would be happy to drop you into town. Taxi service to our house from a local taxi service is €5 should we not be available and you have no transport. It's also a lovely and scenic 35 minutes walk! :-)
We have two bicycles that you are more than welcome to use, we also have a chariot to attach to the back if you have kids, or seats that attach to the bike frame and two helmets for the children.
This was our first and probably favourite stop on our trip up the west coast. The cabin is lovely, comfortable and cosy, with outside seating and wonderfull views over Bantry Bay. An expansive garden to stroll around and a small beach just a walk down the road. Irene and Bean were just great, very welcoming and their children engaging. (Their dog Goggy wins the prize as the best animal we encountered in the whole of Ireland). Wish we could have stayed longer.
Thank you John. We really enjoyed having both of you stay. Goggy seemed a little sad when you were gone, but a walk to the beach and lots of extra cuddles from us cheered him up again;) He seems to be the highlight of most peoples stay here. We're very lucky to have him. I hope you both continued to have a fun trip. All the best, Irene and Bean.
We arrived in the blazing sunshine and were wowed by the gorgeous views of Bantry Bay, as well as the cosy cabin. Goggy the dog welcomed us in as Bean was away gigging and Irene was out - you have no choice but to like pets at this property, they will come to you (we had a little visit from Houmous the cat before we left too)! Luckily Goggy's really friendly and comfortable with new people. He even took us to the beach. The cabin has everything you need, and it's a lovely place to curl up with a book when the weather turns.
You probably do have to drive to the property - it's up a narrow lane that forms part of the Wild Atlantic Way. It's only a short drive to Bantry, though (Organico is great for supplies).
We didn't see very much of Irene, which was a bit of a shame as we had looked forward to interacting with both of them (as fellow musicians). Maybe next time!
We enjoyed our stay at Bean's Cabin in Bantry. The views over the bay were spectacular, the cabin was spacious and comfortable, with a good sound system, everything we needed for cooking, and sleeping in the loft was fun. Bean and his family were very nice and accommodating. We had plenty of privacy as well.
Bon endroit pour faire escale dans la région. Nous avons pu apprécier la vue sur la baie malgré un temps très pluvieux le soir de notre arrivée.
A beautiful chalet in an idyllic location with inspiring views of Bantry bay on your doorstep. Lots to see and do nearby.
I had a wonderful three week escape here with my three children aged 6,7 & 8. We didn't want to leave!
The photos in this listing really don't do justice to this amazing place. I could not think of one single thing that we didn't like about Bean and Irene's lovely cabin.
Beautiful views, airy room and large windows, amazing views and green spaces everywhere, a gorgeous and friendly dog, helpful but not overbearing hosts, who let us just get on and enjoy with our stay, a good heating system (only briefly needed but good to know for cooler weather!) and a great couple of beds to choose from!
Bantry is also a great little village, with fantastic food and great music, I really could not recommend this place more and we are already planning our return, for longer next time.
My husband and I stayed with Bean and Irene for 4 nights and we could not possibly say enough good things about them, their home, and their family. They were warm, welcoming, and generously hospitable. Their property is something out of a dream; the pictures do not, and could not, do it justice. We stayed 6 different places during our time in Ireland and we loved everywhere we stayed, however, Bean and Irene's place was far and away the gem of our trip. When we return to Ireland, we hope to stay with Bean and Irene again, or at least meet them for a pint.
About the Host, Bean
I am a full-time musician and my partner is a Yoga teacher. We moved to West Cork in 2013 and we love it here! Such a beautiful part of the world, there is so much to see and do here. We love having people around and showing them the sights :-)
