The 10 Coolest Airbnb Rentals in New York
Timeout New York, 2014

"Staying with Jessica at the historic mansion was quite a remarkable experience. It was not only one of the nicest homes I have ever stayed at on Airbnb, but Jessica made one of the best breakfasts that I have ever had . . . better than any breakfast spot we found, so if you stay here, I recommend sticking around for breakfast. The photos do not do the first floor justice. It is massive, but also very charming. We stayed in the top floor, and the room was beautifully designed and arranged for us. After staying with Jessica, I would recommend it as one of the best Airbnbs in New York, and a must visit if you want to experience the authenticity of a Brooklyn brownstone neighborhood, the charm of an historic mansion, and the soul of Jessica's hospitality. In other words, this is a 6 star experience, even though we only allow 5 stars to be left."

{THE HOUSE}
.
Built in 1887, this magnificent landmarked 10,000 square foot historic brownstone is one of Brooklyn's architectural gems. Located in Clinton Hill, where early industrialists built their mansions along quiet tree-lined streets, this neighborhood is the borough's most culturally and architecturally interesting and is now home to many noted writers, artists and musicians. The house has been meticulously restored and decorated with beautiful vintage modern furnishings and museum-quality art; 19th century opulence meets 21st century Brooklyn cool. As a guest, you will enjoy relaxed yet attentive service in an atmosphere of quiet understated luxury; the bedding and other amenities are of the highest quality. Breakfast is prepared daily using seasonal local and organic ingredients. The location is perfect for exploring the rich cultural offerings of Brooklyn, which has been described as one of the hippest places on the planet. You will find, within walking distance, wonderful "Brooklyn food movement" restaurants, BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music), Brooklyn Museum of Art, Botanical Garden, Prospect Park, the Brooklyn Flea, Fort Greene Park, the Pratt Sculpture Garden and the Green Market. With easy access to mass transit, it is also just minutes from other Brooklyn neighborhoods and Manhattan.
.
A complimentary continental breakfast is served daily between 8 am and 9 am. Full breakfast - prix fixe $35.00/person (advance booking is required).

WHAT IS THE LAW FOR SHORT TERM RENTING IN NYC?
.
Under New York law, short term rentals (less than 30 days) are not permitted when the owner/renter is away. Although legal when the owner/renter is present, many multi-unit building's leases and bylaws prohibit short term rentals.
.
Many guests are being asked not to mention Airbnb and to say that they are simply friends of the host. In buildings where such renting is prohibited the management can remove a guest. Ask if you are renting legally before booking.

Guest access

Interaction with guests

While this is a shared house, which means that you will see us eating, entertaining and relaxing, we try to respect the level of interaction that our guests desire.

Other things to note

1. We have two free-roaming dogs. Knuckie is a young, sweet and energetic Boxer and Klaus is a very relaxed older Puggle.
2. Guest rooms are third and fourth floor walk-ups. The top rooms are an 80 step climb.
3. City living can be dusty. We have high ratings for cleanliness but living in a house that was built in 1887 and on a street has traffic, it's a challenge.
4. Note that guest rooms do not have televisions or telephones.

The largest house I have ever walked into, ever. Great location in Brooklyn and friendly hosts. The type of place to read an etiquette book prior to visiting. Logistics: Street parking only. And no fridge so plan lunch and dinner away from the home. Breakfast served in the morning, made by the hosts.

We returned for a 2nd year in a row to Notorious B.N.B. and this time, we brought our parents as we knew they would love it as much as we do. Doug and Jessica's home is the perfect place to stay when visiting New York. It's one block from the subway, so it is easy and convenient. And after a day in the city, it is a beautiful and relaxing home to return to. Each room is uniquely decorated and leaves us feeling inspired. Doug and Jessica are very welcoming and make us feel totally at home - like we are visiting friends. I can't say enough great things about staying here.

I highly recommend staying at the notorious b.n.b. and indulging in one of Jessica's delicious breakfasts. Jessica and Doug were quite helpful with dining recommendations. I enjoyed chatting with them in the morning but also felt like they gave us plenty of space and time to ourselves. It was a perfect place to spend the weekend.

We really enjoyed our stay at Jessica and Doug's place. First of all, it is probably the most stunning house you'll ever stay in. Like, in your life. Secondly, we have a four month old and they were really accommodating with us and our (occasionally crying) child. There is ample space, the rooms are very quiet and the neighborhood is one of the best in Brooklyn. They were easy to communicate with and breakfast was great. What a treat!

We are thrilled to welcome people into our house. It's just the kind of place that we would want to stay if we were visiting New York! We enjoy meeting interesting, creative and passionate people from around the world and sharing our love of Brooklyn and New York City with them -- the history, food, art, architecture, and music. What we offer is a room in a beautiful house. We are relaxed and welcoming. We ask that our guests make themselves at home (and we do all we can to make them as comfortable as possible). Staying with us is like staying with friends or family (who can cook well). We do not have locks on room doors (although we do fully respect our guest's privacy). This is not a hotel or a bed and breakfast "business" (no teddy bears or pot pourri). It is sometimes elegant and sometimes casual. We like vintage furniture, street art, local food, and all kinds of music ... an urban sensibility. It's 'real life' in this house -- we have dogs who are enthusiastic greeters, teenagers who are in and out and friends who stop by. That said, we try really hard to make each guest's stay wonderfully memorable. Please read our reviews. We have had amazing guests!
