Maria and Gary were amazing hosts to us for the 5 days we spent in Merida. Gary picked us up and dropped us off at the bus station, they gave us loads of helpful tips for things to see and do in the whole region, and fed us amazing food, beer and coffee.
We originally wanted to book the Casita Bella de Santiago, but it was occupied, so Maria was able to accommodate us in another apartment, "Merida Apartment Andre furnished". This apartment was really good, plenty of space to spend a few weeks, comfy bed, good air con, fast wifi, and it includes unlimited purified water. Although we didn't swim in it, the pool looks amazing, and there were awesome murals on the walls. The location of the house is really good, a 10 minute walk to the centre of Merida, and only 3 minutes walk to Parque de Santiago, where there is a covered food market, tons of cheap, good Yucatecan food, a supermarket, cinema and free wifi in the park.
There was an intermittent problem with the hot water in the shower during our stay, because they were installing a new water heater, but I'm sure that this has been fixed by now.
Merida is such an easy going city, and we loved wandering the streets and parks. We highly recommend staying with Maria and Gary, and hope we can come back one day. Thanks for having us guys!
Maria and Gary were fantastic hosts! I was only able to be in Mérida for two days, but they helped me make the most out of my trip! They knew the ins and outs of Mérida, from the best authentic Mayan restaurants, to the local hangout spots where everyone gathers to wind down their day. The location was great, safe, and right near Centro and a couple of local art galleries and restaurants. The Casita was very nice, it had a high pressure water, abundant purified water, excellent working A/C, and the bed was very comfortable. I am so happy with my experience that I plan to visit Mérida in the near future, hopefully for an extended period of time, and when I do I plan on renting from Mary and Gary!
Great neighborhood in Centro - near parks, market, shops etc. Spacious living quarters with very well equipped kitchen. We enjoyed relaxing with our hosts and other guests in the common area around the pool. Mary and Gary were most helpful and always available.
We have a two year old son and stayed two weeks at Maria & Gary’s place. We had a wonderful relaxing time there. Everything was very easy at this very family-like place. Maria & Gary are very caring. Even before we came they offered us a lot of options to help us find the place and make our stay most comfortable. There wasn’t a single wish we had that they couldn’t fulfill.
They offer a lot of trips and advice for tours. But they will also take care of profane things like laundry or a trip to the supermarket. Maria’s an excellent cook. She let us try some of her local dishes and each time it was a highlight for us. And the last night she made a very special dinner for our son Anton!
It’s a great place to stay with kids. There’s a playground round the corner (Parque de Santiago) and do not miss the Parque Centenario Zoológico! Our son loved the pool at the house and to play downstairs on the patio. His favorite was playing cards or soccer with Maria. She even taught him how to cook tortillas!
Everything in the apartment was brand new and perfectly equipped. We cooked a lot and we didn’t miss a thing. There’s a good coffee maker, a microwave, a huge fridge, a luxurious stove and brand new pans. We loved the very hot showers with a lot of water pressure.
It’s not the quietest place though. There’s a bar across the street which plays loud music during the afternoon but they stop well before we went to bed so it didn’t bother us.
