A microcosm of London's shifting ethnic patterns, the area around Brick Lane in East London was once associated with poor slums and the scene of the crime for the Jack the Ripper murders. Whilst the notorious pub Ten Bells still stands, the area itself is now extremely popular with London’s edgy and artistic crowd, featuring galleries, restaurants, markets and festivals throughout the year.

The Old Truman Brewery at 91 Brick Lane houses a vibrant market where up-and-coming designers set up shop every Sunday selling a unique variety of clothes, handbags and jewellery. There are also vintage clothing stores and chic boutiques dotted around the area.

As a hub of London's Bangladeshi community, Brick Lane has always been famed for its many authentic curry restaurants. It now also has a reputation for its warehouse art exhibitions and trendy clubs and bars. So, before your East London experience is complete, be sure to head to the Vibe Bars beer garden or 93 Feet East (150 Brick Lane) which has become an East End institution well known for its eclectic mix of live music and intimate atmosphere.

A really vibrant area with so much to do when you are not busy out there shopping.

  • All in all a nice place to stay & a good house. The room was very nice & clean. A big comfortable kitchen. the instructions sent by the host were accurate & helpfull in getting into the house. In a few minutes walk there's a train station that can get you anywhere you need. Kaz showed understanding regaring my unexpected delay in checkout.

  • Overall, the experience was really bad!

    The good aspects of the house are the location (close to a couple tube stations) and the cleaning.

    On the other hand, there was this REALLY BAD problem that the shower didn't work properly. In order to get hot water you had to keep pushing a button while in shower. Now, imagine taking a bath with just one hand.
    If Kaz say the problem is fixed it is a LIE! I spent one month in the house (4 full weeks) and everyday the cleaning lady would say that she talked to Kaz and he wouldn't do anything.
    I tried to mail him and had no answer. I tried to phone him and had no answer. Honestly, I feel this is a complete shame.
    Besides that, there were other "smaller" problems like run out of toilet paper a few times and had to go out to buy it or wait one or two days till the cleaning lady put some more.

    So, even though the location is really good I do NOT recommend this place!

  • I haven't met Kaz personally but the mail conversation was very nice and professional. He provided all the information I needed, so there was no need for any requests.

    The room is one of four in the apartment, so you share the bathroom, toilet and kitchen with the other guests. I was lucky that I had very nice people staying there during my vacation, we had some interesting chats in the kitchen.

    Of course you can't expect a high class apartment for that price, but what you get is enough if you just stay there to sleep as I did. There were some little issues with the toilet but nothing serious.

    All in all the apartment is very good appointed, so if you search for a cheap room to visit London I can highly recommend it :)

  • The flat is in a very convenient and interesting location, in between 2 Underground stations. Excellent value for money. Very clean.Close to Sainsbury's to buy groceries, walking distance to Whitechapel. The shower worked fine. The internet worked, and quickly. The kitchen is new and spacious. The bed very comfortable. I travelled as a single female. The check-in system was very easy and convenient, especially if you are to arrive late at night. Plenty of spare towels if you need them. I didn't meet Kaz, but I like that situation anyway. I don't feel like I have to entertain a host when I could be out doing things, and I value my privacy. I would definitely stay here again if I was to visit London!

  • Comfortable room, bathroom was clean. Good location near to Stepney Green tube station. I arrived quite late and Kaz wasn't around but was able to get in okay through arrangement with the key which worked fine. Altogether a pleasant stay at good value for money.
