Garden Cottage is a snug, one bedroom house fully equipped with a cosy living room, kitchen, dining, and bedroom off a minstrel gallery, and a peaceful kitchen garden. Around you is 8 acres of mature estate & a 2km sandy beach- perfect for a getaway!
Fort Royal lies in an idyllic location on the shores of Lough Swilly in North Donegal, in the picturesque harbour village of Rathmullan.
Garden Cottage sits in a beautiful location within the mature grounds of Fort Royal Country House, formerly one of the county's most well-known hotels. Part of the property's original stable block, the cottage offers a dining area open to the minstrel gallery above, and with access out to a private, secluded kitchen garden. Kitchen is fully equipped, and leads through to a snug sitting room with TV and DVD. The gallery landing above leads to a double bedroom, and bathroom with bath/shower.
The real magic though lies in the beautiful grounds outside- you will step out of the door into 8 acres of wonderfully mature parkland and gardens, with direct, private access onto one of the best beaches in County Donegal, with 2 km of unbroken sand sloping gently down into Lough Swilly. Your private tennis court (shared between the four residences on site) has among the best views of any court in Ireland!
The shops, restaurants, pubs and amenities of the village are a few minutes' stroll along the beach or road, and the local area is an ideal holiday destination for walkers, cyclists, golfers and watersport fans alike- everything you need is on your doorstep. Alternatively, there can be no better place than Rathmullan to simply change down a few gears, kick back and relax...
The cottage was very cute and ideal for the wedding I went to at Rathmullan House. Everything was there that we needed and it was nice and clean. The water doesn't really get hot even with the heater turned on for a while- this was the only thing.
We arrived at the garden cottage and everything had been organised by Ali our host.
Unfortunately, the description of the cottage fails to inform guests of quite a few important factors. The first being; it is a cottage that sits on the site of an abandoned hotel so, we were completely alone in a deserted hotel site, something two girls staying on their own might have benefited from knowing. The cottage also has the feeling that it hasn't been stayed in for around 8 months, cobwebs hanging and inches of dust on the window seemed to give this away. The main problem however is that the bed is very uncomfortable, a mattress that saw better days probably in the 70's. The shower as well has absolutely no power and you would have a more successful wash sticking your head under the sink. Me and my friend absolutely loved rathmullan and had a wonderful stay. We don't want to give bad reviews but, staying at the cottage nearly ruined our trip to Ireland. Neither of us slept well for three days and this impacted on our enjoyment of our friends wedding. We wouldn't anyone else to go through this and hope the feedback will result in a more enjoyable trip for the next guest
