About this listing
Stable Cottage sits in a beautiful location within the mature Fort Royal estate. 2 cosy bedrooms on a gallery landing, open plan living & dining room, opening into a peaceful kitchen garden, this is the perfect country retreat to get away from it all
Fort Royal lies in an idyllic location on the shores of Lough Swilly in North Donegal, in the picturesque harbour village of Rathmullan.
Stable Cottage sits in a beautiful location within the mature grounds of Fort Royal Country House, formerly one of the county's most well-known hotels. Converted from the original stone stable block into a cosy 2 bedroom cottage, it offers an open plan living and dining area with cable TV and DVD player, and fully equipped kitchen. The gallery landing above leads to a double and a twin bedroom, and bathroom with bath/shower. French windows in the living area open into a sheltered, peaceful kitchen garden.
The real magic though lies in the beautiful grounds outside- you will step out of the door into 8 acres of wonderfully mature parkland and gardens, with direct, private access onto one of the best beaches in County Donegal, with 2 km of unbroken sand sloping gently down into Lough Swilly. Your private tennis court (shared between the four residences on site) has among the best views of any court in Ireland!
The shops, restaurants, pubs and amenities of the village are a few minutes' stroll along the beach or road, and the local area is an ideal holiday destination for walkers, cyclists, golfers and watersport fans alike- everything you need is on your doorstep. Alternatively, there can be no better place than Rathmullan to simply change down a few gears, kick back and relax...
Lovely cozy cottage just as advertised. Perfect location to explore the north of Donegal. Alison was very clear and helpful with directions. Nice little fire at fireplace welcomed us :)
We had a fantastic weekend at the cottage thanks to the friendly helpfull staff .Our children especially enjoyed the wooded area, tennis court and easy access to the beach .Wouldn't hesitate to rebook when visiting the area again
Alison was very easy to work with , and so was Damian, who took care of us with check-in and check out. We LOVED the stable cottage. The grounds were beautiful, and we spent a lot of time walking on the beach into town and playing a little tennis (although we could have used a few more balls....:-)
We loved staying here at All's place! This has to be one of the best places we stayed in all of Ireland! If you want a spectacular view of the lake, a tennis court to play tennis on and beautiful grounds to take beautiful walks on this is the place to go! More than an Excellent rate for your money.
I can't recommend Alison's cottage and estate highly enough. Rathmullen is among Donegal's top locations for natural beauty and the estate here is the perfect compliment. It's quiet and secluded, opening on to a sandy beach at the back, with great views across the Lough Swilly. At the front of the estate you find yourself at the foot of the surrounding hillside. We took a route recommended to us by a shopkeeper in the village - which is a ten minute walk - and again enjoyed some spectacular scenery. We stayed in the stable cottage and were very comfortable. The upstairs bedrooms open onto a gallery with the living area below, which I particularly enjoy. Besides this, the cottage is at its best with a strong fire at night. We were very well taken care of throughout by Damian, who was near by if we needed him for anything or had any questions. Near perfect break away. I look forward to returning.
