Welcome to Edinburgh! A tranquil city-center hideaway..

In these past 5 years I am delighted to have been able to share my home with many hundreds of visitors from East and West:
*China * Singapore * Korea * Taiwan * Sri Lanka * Pakistan * India * Australia * New Zealand * Hong Kong * Japan
* Poland * Norway * Sweden * Netherlands * Germany * Austria * Belgium *Switzerland * France * Italy * Ireland * Spain * Iceland * Portugal * and even England! :-)
* Canada * Chile * Brazil * USA
* Russia * Dubai *Morocco

Locals say it's like a big village - frequently you meet someone you know when you're out. There is much green space in the city, as well as the historical Old and New Towns. Every August the Arts Festivals attract half a million visitors from 'round the world to experience the festivities.

The guest room is in my flat, ideal for 1-3 persons, and up to 5 persons if needed - great for families and friends travelling together.

The garden flat is a 22-MINUTE WALK FROM WAVERLEY TRAIN STATION & PRINCES STREET, AND 30 MINUTES TO THE ROYAL MILE. There are many local bus services nearby. My home is in a relaxed setting hidden behind a tall gate 35m from the nearest street, surrounded by 110-m2 of private garden and a terrace with mature trees. Fresh herbs are for the taking.

There are 3 single beds (a single and a bunk bed). For groups and families there are two extra mattresses with all bedding placed on the floor if required, **NOTE: FLOOR SPACE USING EXTRA MATTRESSES IS QUITE LIMITED. For 1-3 persons breakfast can be taken at the small half-round kitchen table , or by arrangement, and larger guest groups will have breakfast at the 200 year-old Scottish farm table in the lounge.

There is an extensive collection of photographic arts and Oriental carpet books, as well as maps and guides of Edinburgh and Scotland available.

• Wide range of cafes, restaurants, cinema & shopping . Edinburgh has an eclectic range of locally-owned shops (avoiding the mass-market identical chain stores found in every UK city), restaurants and so many delicatessens and coffee shops, not to mention pubs!
• Good bus transport very near extending throughout Edinburgh incl Service 100 from/to Airport as well as the new TRAM
• Edinburgh is a very walkable place. It is an easy walk or bus to Princes Street, the Olde Town, Hollyrood Palace, Scottish Parliament, Royal Botanical Gardens, Museum of Scotland, National Gallery of Scotland, Museum of Modern Art, City Arts Centre, Hollyrood Queen’s Gallery and Waverley Train Station all in central Edinburgh.
• Excellent international & local restaurants: Edinburgh offers it all.
• Parking: there is free on-street parking a 7-minute walk away or meter parking on the street, but which is free weekends Friday 1730-Monday 0830. I’m pleased to share with you my insights and tips about Edinburgh. I look forward to meeting you soon.

We has a group of 5 people arriving at different times, David was an amazing host and very flexible. He gave me an introduction of the accommodation and gave us some tips and stories about the area which was very helpful. We were able to contact him on his phone if we needed and the breakfest provided was really nice. We had to leave early for a 6am flight, he was very understanding and even left bananas for our breakfast. Great accommodation. Highly recommended and would visit David again.

As the first time to visit Edinburgh, we have had good reception. The landlord is very enthusiastic and looks like our family. He waited for us in the street, even though it was too late when we arrived. Generally speaking, it was a very pleasant trip.

This is definitely not big enough for three adults to fit comfortably. The bunk bed is youth size; it's very small and not easily manageable for less limber adults. We 3 felt very cramped in the room. Be aware that it is definitely a room in a house, not a separate unit. Also be aware that breakfast is continental style rather than full Scottish. David is a very interesting fellow with lots of great stories to share. He's genuinely kind and friendly.

Response from David:
It is disappointing to read this guest's negative comments about the beds, breakfast, room and bath. It would appear that the guest has not read the AirBnB listing details, otherwise none of the above would have been mentioned. Hundreds of guests have left nothing but very complimentary (5*****) reviews throughout five years of hosting. 1. The beds are international standard singles ie: 190x90cm (3ftx6ft3), not 'youth-size' and are detailed in my AirBnB listing in full, with photographs 2. Breakfast: the listing clearly notes that breakfast is Continental. That the guest expects 'Full Scottish' and chooses to highlight her views baffles me .Breakfast is substantial, not a box of corn flakes and instant coffee, but personally made and served with best ingredients I can find - at no cost. 3. It is clear in the listing that this is a room in my home - that the guest highlights that it is not a separate unit is baffling, when it is very clearly described. The room size is also noted, 17 sq mtrs in the listing, again with full photographs. 4. There is comment about cleanliness: the bath is kept spotless, neat and tidy. It is not a hotel marble bath. Room and bath floors are cleaned thoroughly, carpets regularly shampooed and vacuumed after each guest, with full dusting. Constructive comments and suggestions are always appreciated, not disparaging erroneous ones.

David was a very kind and helpful host during the 3 nights we stayed at his house. David is well spoken, amiable and had lots of interesting stories to tell. The room was small, but fine for three adults. The accomodation is basic, but clean. We slept well and David took good care of us.

David is a very kind person. He picked us up at the Edinburgh rail station. The room is clean and the location is very convenient.

Response from David:
Thank you very much for your constructive comment about the room. Following each guest visit, the carpet is thoroughly vacuumed, and the room dusted so I am not quite sure what you could be referring to. There were two stains from visitors this past summer and I intend to shampoo the carpet again to try to remove the stains. The front door area by the shoe rack where we remove shoes, because of the garden outside. I shall keep an eye on these areas. Thanks again for your interest, and best wishes for 2017!

David was such a great host. He was attentive without beinb obstrusive and we had great chats - he has a lot of fascinating stories. He is also very knowledgable of Edinburgh. The house itself is very tidy, peaceful and cosy. It's about a 20 minute walk from the train station, which is a huge plus.

I am so pleased that you found everything to be suitable and welcoming - I joined AirBnB five years ago precisely for this reason, to share what I can with my global neighbours, and certainly you're part of that family!

Edinburgh is a great city. Were not my stay at David's house, I would simply describe this city as lovely, with nice sea view and fabulous sunset. But talks with David notified me of the nostalgia and remembrance everywhere in the city. I've been to quite a few cities, a handful of which made me wanna stay, but Edinburgh is the only one affects me so deeply. Guess it was the 10-hour sound sleep in the cozy bed and David's playing guitar that makes me so sentimental :((( Definitely wish to come back again and all the best wishes to David and your practice in serenade!!

I am so pleased that you had such a restful stay, and found Edinburgh to your liking. Please do come to visit again. By that time I'd hope to have my classical guitar pieces better played!

Oriental Carpet specialist and photographer: I have lived in Edinburgh now since 1982 originally from northern California USA, and now a British citizen and an honorary Scot.

In the early 1970s I hitch-hiked through Europe which brought me to my second 'home', Turkey, where I've spent much time. Other travels brought me to cycle in Taiwan, pick grapes in eastern Hungary, wander in Mexico, work in Kabul, and count as friends people from China to India, Africa and in between. Such variety and with three children it has been a busy and interesting life!

** Je parle Francais un peu (I speak some French)
** Turkce konusebilirim (I can speak Turkish)

I'm delighted to share my 'hide-away home' and the pleasures of Edinburgh - "Athens of the North", with its long history of a fiercely proud and dynamic people.
