Get away from it all! This is a semi-private space located 1 hour 15 minutes from New York City. Accommodates 1-4 guests.
Welcome to Lake Hopatcong, a restful lake community in the gateway to the Skylands, in northwestern New Jersey. I'm an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher, and this semi-private apartment is generally used for foreign students who want to improve their English through total cultural immersion. However, it is often vacant and I am now offering it to musicans, artists, writers and travelers, too.
Due to the nature of the space, please tell us about yourself and what you'll be doing while you're here. REFERENCES ARE REQUIRED, either on AirBnB or from other sources.
Affectionately nicknamed "Hippie Haven," it is ideal for a musician or band wanting to get out of the city and spend a few days rehearsing. It's also a lovely environment for an writer or artist, as it is peaceful and there are many light and bright rooms for drawing. However, all travelers and people in transition are welcome.
The semi-private apartment has a bedroom with a full-sized bed that can accommodate a single person or couple. The music room can double as a second bedroom if you are traveling with friend(s). There is a couch in the music room, which can accommodate an additional person, and there is an air mattress for a 4th person, (although it would be tight for 4 people and recommended for a short stay).
We also have a private bedroom with a single bed upstairs for a 5th & 6th person (book separately -- see our other listing, ESL Music & Artist Haven2).
The music room has a PA, full drum kit, a piano, an electronic keyboard, a bass amp, and a couple of guitar amps. It's equipped with cable TV and high-speed internet. We have recently added a turntable and a collection of vintage vinyl records just for fun. Musicians will really enjoy this space.
There's a mini-fridge, microwave and toaster oven in the rehearsal room. I'll leave continental breakfast foods in the fridge for you. Just tell me what you like to eat.
There is a separate entrance to this space, and we ask that you use it if you come in after 11 PM.
Free off-street parking is available. Laundry facilities are available.

I had a great tim staying with Mercedes and Roger. I enjoyed getting to know them and eating the delicious meals Mercedes would cook. I had fun going to the local spots when I had time.
It was an amazing experience. For starters, I was new to AirBnB, and Mercedes was so nice and welcomed us with open arms. She helped us get though all the troublesome procedures, and she gave us all the helpful information we needed. During the stay, she was so warm and she cooked restaurant-level food for us every day. It felt like coming home. Also, the environment was cozy. We got everything we needed! There are even many instruments downstairs, definitely a heaven for musicians! Every day here was happy and interesting. We learned new things every day! There are even barbeques on Sunday and it was so delicious! Whenever you come from, you will feel like home! You may even get chance to have your homeland food!! Thanks Mercedes so much for this great experience!! :)
Mercedes and Roger are great hosts - very friendly and hospitable. And Mercedes is a really good cook, so take advantage of her meal deals ! I also had very interesting conversations with Mercedes and Rogers. Their place is very comfortable - I had a whole little suite to myself, which included bedroom, bathroom and living room. I was sorry I couldn't stay longer.
Mercedes and Roger are/were wonderful hosts. I would have enjoyed spending a bit more time talking with them if schedules had allowed. Nevertheless, my living and sleeping space afforded me lots of privacy and peace which was what I was looking for. The music room is very comfortable and the little kitchen area in that room was wonderfully easy to use and ample. I enjoyed driving around the lake area, as well. I hope to see Mercedes and Roger again next year! And, they went out of their way to buy me what I wished to have for breakfast, which was very kind.
Mercedes, along with Roger made me feel so welcome to their home. They were such gracious hosts who ensured my comfort. I recommend them without any reservations. The room I stayed in was private and i also had access to a music room with small appliances which made it convenient to store fruit and carry-out dinners when I wasn't able to make dinner plans with them. Check out the cabinet above the refrigerator which I did not discover until my last few days that it contained plates, glasses and silverware for use. All in all, an enjoyable first Airbnb experience with them!

I'm an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher/professor at the Culture Palette School, who also does a variety of creative activities, like acting, singing, photography and filmmaking. I like to travel and I like to host travelers and visiting students. If you are new to AirBnB and have no references, please write me a detailed message about why you'd want to stay with me and what you want to do while you are here. Hope to see you soon! SPECIAL TRIBUTE: My partner, Roger, passed away on January 23, 2015. He was an amusing, wonderful man who will be missed by all our guests, and especially, by me.
