Interaction with Guests
We are two men in a stable relationship of more than 15 years. We travel often. When we are here, we like to interact with guests as much or as little as they feel comfortable with. Some of our guests like to be left alone, others like to be treated 'like family.' All arrangements are okay with us.
The campo (countryside) in this part of Mexico is quite beautiful. Most of the area is hillside fields, with two nearby hot springs. We have an immediate neighbor, adjacent to our property. She often will fill in as hostess when we are away.
If you are planning on being here for more than just a few days, we highly recommend having a car. San Miguel town center is 10 minutes away on almost all paved roads...for less than a kilometer, the road to our place is a combination of cobbled and unpaved road. Taxi service to and from town ranges from $8-$12 USD one-way. Hitching rides with us is always possible, but not always available because of work or travel schedules.
Other Things to Note
We have three well-behaved, mature dogs -- Roscoe and Charlie are black, medium-sized doggies...Medio Litro (half-pint) is a small terrier. They are good companions and do an excellent job of protecting the house. When we are not here, off traveling, we ask our guests to feed them -- simple dry food twice per day.
No smoking in the house or patios. Check with us before inviting other people into the house. No sleep-overs. We allow a pet, within reason -- such as a well-behaved dog.
Joseph and Michael are extremely welcoming and helpful, while also being non-instrusive. They are sensitive and responsive; staying with them would work well for both the person who is intensely interested in learning about the area, and the person who just wants to relax and retreat.
The house is beautiful and could not be more comfortable. With a deck from which we watched the sunset, an outside shower, and a very quiet neighborhood that was great for taking it walks, it exceeded my expections.
The house is very well located: it's a 10-minute drive into the center of San Miguel, 35 minutes to Delores Hidalgo, 10 minutes to a lovey hot water spring. One could also use it as a base to visit Guanajuato and Querretaro.
From the moment we met Joseph we were taken in by his calm and friendly personality. Their home is equally inviting and better than we could have imagined. The private areas (bedroom, bathroom) are nicely decorated and have plenty of room, and the shared living space is very comfortable and beautiful.
Joseph and Mike both shared stories about SMA, the neighborhoods, and their favorite places to visit nearby. We valued their insights and followed all of their recommendations. We highly recommend their country home because of its location but even more so because of the fantastic hosts!
We really enjoyed staying with Joseph! We loved the peace and serenity of the area their lovely new house was situated in, and it's wonderful views. I bonded with the dogs, and the walks in the open countryside with them.
Joseph and Michael were great hosts, and we felt very much at home. Coffee in the morning, always hot and ready. They helped us with information too, and even drove us when we needed it, which was rarely, but appreciated!
We would definitely go back!
