As a family vacation home since 1978, we finally moved to Warren full time in 2015 and built this guest house / detached garage apartment so family & friends could stay too. The home, off a paved road, is situated on 100 acres in a wooded meadow adjacent to the Green Mountain National Forest. While totally secluded, we are mere minutes to town, ski resorts, swim holes, hiking, biking, golf and the great area restaurants.
If you are looking to make the move too, I am a licensed Vermont Realtor.

The space
The 1,000 sq/ft air conditioned two bedroom apartment, has plenty of room for a family of four with an open floor plan that includes a full kitchen, dining nook, seating area with a flat screen TV/Roku/Netflix and fiber optic wifi internet. The mountain view spans the length of the space from the kitchen to the primary bedroom. The bathroom has a full size stacked clothes washer and dryer and a roomy stand up shower.

The Outside Space: The space outside the front door, 'the yard', has a picnic table for eating outdoors, a fire pit for the cool VT nights and a cornhole game for some friendly competition.
The property: Guests are welcome to roam the apartment side of the property including the log road down to the stream. Guests are also welcome to wade (or step stone when the flow is low) across the stream to the log road trails on the other side. There is a 2+ mile loop of log roads and trails to explore. A topographic map of the log roads can be provided for those that wish to explore, just let me know. (Note: There is a very cool 'Tree Grabbing a Boulder' up there if you care to look in the southwest corner. )

Please Note: The State of VT does not assess the Rooms Tax on stays 30 Days or greater.

Guest access
Access to the entire apartment plus access to the stream, logging roads on the other side and the Green Mountain National Forest at the top of the logging roads.

We currently have several miles of lightly maintained logging roads on the far side of the stream for those that would like to go and explore. Crossing the stream usually involves getting your feet wet except maybe in August when the water level is really low

We provide foot towels and a stream side bench to dry feet and replace shoes as well as a map covering the log roads I do my best to keep them clear of fallen trees but from time to time trees fall across the roads and you may need to bushwhack around them.

'River Walking' is also a thing if you wish. Bring some water shoes or old sneakers, and feel free to walk upstream or down for as far as you wish to go. We provide foot towels and a stream side bench to dry feet and replace shoes as well as a map covering the log roads I keep clear.

(Note: From time to time trees fall across the roads and you may need to bushwhack around them.)

Other things to note
If just hanging out on the property is what you desire, there is a logging road path to a stream just out your front door; there's tons of space to explore. See if you can find the mini waterfalls on the property. (Happy to give you a hint too) There is also a small swim hole for getting wet but instructions would be needed on getting there. At the end of the day sit and relax outside by the fire pit, listen to the river and watch the sun set on the mountain in your back yard.

Keep an eye to the meadow and maybe you will see a red fox, wild turkeys, deer or, if you are really lucky, a moose that roams the valley. The closest we've gotten recently is a foot print on the log road.

TV - The space has 50” flat screen TV with Roku. You can also access the Internet and your Netflix account. There is NO traditional cable TV. Guests may request Cable hookup; it can be arranged for an additional charge and a few days notice.

LANDLINE Phone - With cell phones in every pocket, we do not have a landline phone. Wifi calling will be best option.

INTERNET - We have high speed fiber optic wifi internet which is included. 150/150 mbps is the providers promoted speed. Working and video conferences from the space has never been a problem. It can be bumped all the way up to Gigabits per Second and we can discuss costs if it's really needed. We have gotten great feedback from past guests over all the years on speed and reliability.

FIRE PIT - You are welcome to use the fire pit as burning conditions permit from Apr-Nov. We are happy to provide firewood (when available) free of charge. If your stay extends to 4 nights, a couple fires is fine, and I am happy to set them up for you, just let me know the day before. If you would like to scratch around in the woods on your own and look for dead branches, that is fine as well. Long term stays, 2 a week as my supply lasts. Buying wood in town is always an option too. (I'm trying to be sure I have wood all season for everyone without having anyone buy 'camp wood'.)

BICYCLES - Guests are welcome to store bicycles in the garage during their stay. Please advise in advance so I can be sure to make room. Bicycles are not allowed in the space.

'NOISE' - MINE - I do mow the meadow occasionally in stages during Summer and Fall, and otherwise maintain the property, and the equipment can be noisy. I do try to time it around guests' stays but it is possible that it may coincide, due to weather and other factors. Please know that I will be mindful, and will never start operations at the crack of dawn.

Neighborhood highlights

The Mad River Valley, comprised of 3 small towns, hosts 3 distinct ski mountains; Sugarbush - Lincoln Peak, Sugarbush - Mt. Ellen & Mad River Glen. Mad River Glen is the furthest away at 15 minutes and Lincoln Peak just 7.

The valley has remained a quaint, quiet and authentic slice of Vermont along the the Scenic By-Way of Route 100, which runs the length of the State. Being located in the center of Vermont makes the MRV close to many points of interest throughout the State.

The property is located just 2 miles from Main Street in Warren and the 'Almost World Famous' Warren Country Store and Paradise Provisions, only 7 minutes away, is near the ski resort on the Access Road and has fresh made sandwiches and a small grocery section.

Waitsfield is just a 10 minute straight shot North on Rt 100 and there you will find the full service grocery stores as well as several of our local restaurants, stores, seasonal farmers market and Lawson's Tap Room.

Scattered around the valley there is also an eclectic mix of small art shops, glass blowing and massage studios, and a Vermont artisan foods store, not to mention Vermont craft beers for sale throughout the valley.

My mother and grandmother gave the name La Chanterelle to the house in Warren in the 1970's; partly because they found some chanterelles on the property and I think they saw the house metaphorically as a mushroom in the middle of the large meadow. We live here full time now and as mushrooms tend to pop up here and there, the guest house apartment popped up in 2016 so our family could live in it while we renovated the main house and then family and friends could visit us when they wished. We now also make it available for others that may wish to visit this beautiful, quiet 'lightly touched' spot in the Mad River Valley of Central Vermont.
