About this listing
Just an hour from San Francisco is the perfect location for a relaxing getaway. Meandering into the small village of Rio Nido under the tall redwoods is a delight as you enter this Cabin in the Trees. Features two bedrooms one bath and large living room for entertaining.
Don’t be daunted by the narrow winding road through the resort community of Rio Nido in which Theo’s house is nestled. Once you arrive, it is a charming and peaceful retreat and a great base from which to explore the great food and wine and natural beauty of Guerneville, the Russian River and Sonoma County. A wonderful spot to which to escape!
This cozy 2bd is way more than we could have ever hoped for on our quick holiday weekend get away! If you are looking for lodging for 4, you've found THE spot. The house decor is something straight out of Pottery Barn; it is cabin chic! There are two equally nice and comfy bedrooms, 1 bath. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans, utensils, etc. Other helpful gadgets include a 10-cup coffee maker, electric kettle, 4 burner gas stove, small oven, and a blow dryer.
The outdoor space is really what makes this place so great. The deck has 3 terraces (2 small, 1 fairly large), each with it's own sitting area and the top with a 2 burner gas grill. The neighborhood is unique and very rustic and very near to the town of Guerneville (5 min drive). I suppose you could walk to the river's edge, but none of the beaches are walking distance. There is one restaurant/bar that is walking distance (Rio Nido Roadhouse). Although all of the houses are packed tightly into this canyon, there is still a sense of privacy.
Theo was available before our arrival for questions and he provided an alternate contact person on our arrival day as he said he would be out of town. My only complaint about my booking is that we didn't book more than 2 nights!!!
We had a wonderful weekend stay in the treehouse! Very relaxing, in a charming and comfortable environment with great outdoor space. Highly recommended for a romantic weekend, or to get away for some down time.
This place was awesome. Great amenities in a very unique and stylistic home. Beautiful home with plenty of outdoor space to enjoy the trees and views.
Theo's father, Dale, warmly welcomed us upon our arrival. Overall, we really enjoyed the home as well as the adjoining decks. It was decorated in a quirky but nice fashion and the bedrooms in particular were very comfortable. The parking is a bit tricky as mentioned in other posts, however the only real fault we found with the home was that the main living area was a bit dark, even with the lights turned on.
What a wonderful, quirky place!! My husband and I, along with another couple, stayed at Theo's place while wine tasting in the Russian River Valley. We loved the location - centrally located for dining (Guerneville/Healdsburg), wine tasting (Sebastopol, Forestville, Healdsburg), and outdoor activities (canoeing, hiking at Armstrong Woods). The house was tucked into the beautiful redwoods just as shown, and reflects its heritage as a long ago California resort destination. The kitchen was perfect for making breakfasts - complete with coffee - and we enjoyed sipping wine on the deck.
Theo was wonderful - quick to respond and very helpful throughout the entire process. The atmosphere of the place is great, and upon arrival the lights were on and music was playing when we walked in, making it very welcoming. One tip - I would recommend arriving during daylight hours, the initial navigation is doable, but could be tricky in the dark.
Treehouse indeed! Though you don't have to climb up a ladder to get into this magical home you will be surrounded by trees and feel as if you are suspended in the forest. Theo's home is truly amazing. I stayed for two nights with my husband and my folks visiting from the East Coast and we all LOVED LOVED LOVED this place! Coordinating with Theo was super easy and the home was well equipped, super clean and absolutely charming in decor. Theo's home makes a great home base for exploring the Russian River area or for taking a short trek back across the freeway to the Calistoga wine country which is what my folks and I did. But ultimately the best way to enjoy Theo's home is to just stay put and enjoy the home and surrounding forest. I hope to return for another stay soon!
