Sleep at the top of the house in a lovely attic bedroom with private adjoining bathroom. Have breakfast with a gilded eagle. Spill out onto the lively neighbouring Cowley Road . Then stroll into the heart of Oxford's historic university architecture.
We live in a lovely late Victorian terraced house. The guests' 2nd floor attic bedroom is cosy, comfortable, light and airy and suits two people well, with a double bed, bedside tables and lights, full length mirror with hanging space, a small desk, chair and hair drier. Your private adjoining bathroom, like the bedroom, has a sloping ceiling, small, but perfectly formed with shower, toilet, wash basin and enough shelves for your 'stuff'. Recently both rooms have been almost entirely refurbished, even with a heated mirror in the bathroom, so it doesn't steam up !
The top floor with your bedroom and bathroom is for your personal use, occasionally the other bedroom is used by family and friends but they will use another bathroom.
We serve a wonderful breakfast in the kitchen/dining area and we are happy to make you a drink at any time if required, as we do not have facilities for making your own drinks upstairs.
If you need to launder any items we are happy to put them through the wash at the same as we do ours, alternatively you can use the washing machine facilities yourself for a charge of £5.00 per wash.
Interaction with Guests
We have not registered for "Instant book" as we like to have some contact with our guests before booking. That way we get to know each other beforehand and when we open the door to you we feel we are welcoming friends to our house. This is what sets Airbnb hosts apart from the usual 'Bed and Breakfast'.
As we are semi-retired and work from home one or both of us are usually around the house. We enjoy meeting people we hope you'll be happy if we join you for breakfast. Also we will help you as much as possible with any information on Oxford and the surrounding area.
Cowley Road area is accepted as being the most vibrant part of Oxford. Being multi-cultural and a magnet for the University, we have the best variety of restaurants and cafés, including Tapas and Sushi bars, Greek, Italian, Lebanese, Chinese, Thai, Nepalese, Indian and many others and all within a 10 minute walk from our house. There are also great pubs, bars, an Art Cinema, several supermarkets, and small shops. In summing up this area, it is wonderfully alive and a delightful walk down the bustling Cowley Road, over Magdalen Bridge, past the Botanical Gardens and a number of Oxford's historic colleges to the city centre. Or you can detour through narrow streets between the colleges, the Bodleian, the Sheldonian and on to the world class Ashmolean, History of Science museum, Natural History, Pitt Rivers museums, and Modern Art Oxford.
Access to virtually anywhere in Oxford is easy walking from us. We are only an enjoyable 15-20 minutes walk to the city centre.
Alternatively, the bus stop to the city centre (5,1 &10 buses) and railway station (no. 5) is two minutes walk from us, with buses every few minutes. Access to London, (aprox 1 1/2 hours) is by train or bus. There are 3 bus companies, the 'Oxford Tube", X90 and Megabus.
Buses from Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton airports and the London buses ALL STOP IN ST. CLEMENTS and we are about an eight minute walk from there. All the drivers will make an announcement on approaching St.Clements. If you are coming from other destinations please consult your bus company. For those of you with a car we have a limited number of on-street parking permits. Please ask when you contact us.
Other Things to Note
We would love you to stay with us. However, BEFORE YOU CONTACT US COULD YOU VERIFY YOUR OFFLINE ID ( PASSPORT or DRIVING LICENCE ) WITH AIRBNB and write a little bit about yourself as we are not part of any social network.
We live in a house which is over 100 years old. We have steps up to our front door, and access to the attic bedroom and bathroom with a sloping ceiling is via two flights of stairs, so sadly this is not suitable for people who have mobility difficulties.
The house is equipped with an integrated hard-wired fire alarm system and there are fire extinguishers at different points throughout the house.
We are a non-smoking house and we don't have any pets.
Due to carpeting on stairs and landings no hot drinks or food and no shoes are allowed upstairs.
Although, you can keep your shoes on downstairs!
We stayed with Dot and Neil for 2 nights and we couldn't of asked for better hosts. Dot and Neil are so welcoming, it's like visiting old friends. They we very helpful with information on Oxford and the surrounding areas. They supplied us with maps with there favourite places to visit, see and to eat at. All top recommendations that made our trip great.
We had the top floor of the house to ourself. The room was spacious enough and the bed comfortable. We had breakfast with Dot and Neil each morning which was delicious.
If we ever visit Oxford again we would definitely stay with Dot and Neil again.
Thanks for being so flexible with the arrangements; it was great that you were able to accommodate my son and daughter. They had a great time and had nothing but praise for how welcome they were made to feel. The rooms were clean and comfortable and perfect for their stay. Thankyou.
The location is perfect for visiting Oxford - just off Cowley Road, and a short walk to the city centre. The hosts, Neil and Dot, were very welcoming and made sure we were comfortable. The room itself is small but perfectly comfortable with a nice en suite bathroom. We would definitely recommend the place to friends, and are likely to visit again in the future ourselves.
We had a very comfortable and enjoyable stay with Dot and Neil. The room and facilities were just as described and their place is ideally situated in a lovely and convenient area of Oxford. Dot and Neil were very hospitable - we enjoyed chatting to them over a delicious breakfast. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this as a place to stay to friends and family.
Neil and Dot are very humor and warmhearted. They printed maps for us and gave us some suggestion to enjoy Oxford. The room is very clean and lovely. Also breakfast is good. We had a wonderful chat in the morning. It is amazing and makes me feel deeper about England. Thanks a lot! Hope to see you again!
Dot and Neil were really wonderful hosts, and they were a wealth of insights, knowledge, and conversation. We loved Oxford and having a place within walking distance to, well, to everything of note or interest was excellent good luck. We loved being able to converse with our hosts on a personal level and to be able to really get to know what the British are 'really like'! Thank you so much for the hospitality, the tea, and the umbrella!
We hope to return to Oxford soon and pick up where we left off.

Dot and Neil were very friendly and welcoming. The house was lovely and the room, although cosy was very comfortable. There was a notice board in the room with local information leaflets making deciding where to go easy. The location is ideal, we loved exploring the town during the day and Cowley road at night. In all we had a fantastic weekend.
Neil and I are both designer/makers, and are very interested in all aspects of art, craft and design and our home reflects our interests, we met each other at art school in the late 60's. Neil has been a designer/furniture maker for 40 years and has now turned his attention to sculptural bird baths and bird tables. My training was in textiles for the fashion industry and now concentrate on small textile pieces and wall hangings. We both showed in this years "Oxfordshire Artweeks". We enjoy going to exhibitions, concerts, the cinema, especially for world films, and visiting historical buildings. Lastly, travelling in our camper van both in Britain and Europe is an absolute joy. The freedom of the nomad! The latter pastime being one of the upsides of the semi retired!
We are new to 'airbnb' and both love meeting people from all walks of life and parts of the world. There is a lot of laughter in our lives. Our children are now grown-up and have left home so we now have the time and space to share our home in this lovely city with others and feel 'airbnb' will give us this opportunity.
