I am a history PhD student at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersy, where I am writing a dissertation on medicine and imperialism in colonial Mexico. My partner and I have a 4 year-old daughter, who is a well seasoned traveler herself and a budding bookworm. Apart and together as a family we travel extensively (and perhaps excessively), not as tourists, but as a globally connected family with lasting relationships with a constellation of points around the world. It used to be that I traveled hitchhiking along the highway and sleeping in farm fields and on forgotten beaches; now though, I have aged into the comforts of a pillow at night and hot cup of coffee in the morning. Otherwise, I travel light. We regularly host AirBnb guests at our apartment when we are away, and so when we travel, we are always very respectful of other people's homes.
