House - Private room · Washington Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11205, United States

We welcome guests into our home. This is a shared house. It's a bit like a B&B and a bit like staying with friends. We make a delicious continental breakfast each morning. Unlike a B&B, the house is not separated into guest and owner spaces.

Clinton Hill was recently voted The Most Livable Neighborhood in Brooklyn by L-Magazine!

"What an amazing home... this house has the intrigue and attention to detail of an art museum with the charm and personality of your best friend! The food is delicious, the hosts are incredibly kind and generous. Never hesitate to make this home away from home! I adore this house (and its owners)!" ~ Natalie

"A gorgeous restored Brooklyn brownstone with airy modernist updates: it was one of the most beautiful houses I've ever been in. … I've essentially been living in luxury hotels for a few years… [this] was one of the top experiences at a hotel that I've ever had.” ~ Sarah B.

"It was such a delight to spend the night in your incredible home. What you offer is unique, just like yourselves and your space. I still marvel at the way you combine retro and modern, high quality design with accessibility and warmth, and gracious hospitality with high end service. What you both have made at 280 Washington is very special ... Not only did I have a wonderful nights sleep and gourmet breakfast, I left much cooler than when I arrived." ~ Courtney

"This was our first experience with Airbnb as an alternative to boutique hotels, and this place beats out on such hotels not only in terms of quality, service, and price performance but with the added personal touches as well." ~ Rana

Built in 1887, this magnificent landmarked 10,000 square foot historic brownstone is one of Brooklyn's architectural gems. Located in Clinton Hill, where early industrialists built their mansions along quiet tree-lined streets, this neighborhood is the borough's most culturally and architecturally interesting and is now home to many noted writers, artists and musicians. The house has been meticulously restored and decorated with beautiful vintage modern furnishings and museum-quality art; 19th century opulence meets 21st century Brooklyn cool. As a guest, you will enjoy relaxed yet attentive service in an atmosphere of quiet understated luxury; the bedding and other amenities are of the highest quality. Breakfast is prepared daily using seasonal local and organic ingredients. The location is perfect for exploring the rich cultural offerings of Brooklyn, which has been described as one of the hippest places on the planet. Everything went smoothly. Ours hosts were adaptable to our coming and going and very indulgent of our particular schedule.

  • We were in Brooklyn for a wedding, we arrived early, and Jessica was more than accommodating to us. She offered to hang and steam out the wrinkles of our clothes for the wedding, gave directions to local restaurants, called car services for us twice.

Really comfortable beds and excellent rain shower. Breakfast
was beyond expectations and very delicious.

Very quiet street and comfortable temperature controlled rooms .

Would recommend staying there to our friends without hesitation.

  • Jessica and her family are great! The house is so beautiful, and the breakfast was delicious. Wonderful holiday spot!

  • My sisters and I were here celebrating our youngest sister's bridal shower and bachelorette party. We hoped we'd picked the right spot for our weekend... This brownstone is an absolute gem.

From start to finish, our experience was special. When we arrived, Jessica's 17 year old son kindly helped us get our luggage up to our rooms on the top floor. My 5 month old son and I stayed in a dreamy white room with beautiful flowing curtains and gorgeous bedding. My sisters took the larger room, which ended up being the perfect spot for our stay-in party. (We hired a top-notch mixologist to serve us delicious drinks for the evening.)

Jessica and Doug were so accommodating and hospitable. They purchased a new pack and play for my son. They made us delicious food for breakfast. They brought up plates and glassware and anything we needed for our party. And in the morning, Jessica lovingly offered us little shots of green food juice in case we were feeling rough from the night before. At one point during our stay, one of their dogs came up to our room, probably to introduce itself to my sister's dog. When I called Jessica to let her know, she immediately and graciously brought her dogs back down to her room and made sure they didn't come up to our space for the rest of our stay.

The tour of the place revealed how very special this place is. It's massive, and is capable of hosting very special cultural events. It's decorated with the most tasteful urban, rustic, classy touches. Jessica has a fabulous eye for design.

Jessica was very friendly and warm. She quickly answered all questions, and was easy to contact during and prior to my stay.

If the opportunity presents itself for me to stay here again, I surely will!

  • The house at 280 Washington is a perfect alternative to Manhattan. It is a lovely and peaceful retreat from the city. We very much appreciated the ambiance, comfortable beds, spaciousness, food and accommodating hosts. The breakfast, aside from being well presented and excellently prepared, is abundant enough to serve for brunch and will hold you the better part of a day. Jessica and Doug are charming and helpful. They answered all of our questions and gave excellent restaurant recommendations. This all contributed to making our stay in Brooklyn a pleasant memory. We hope to return next trip.

  • Jessica and Doug were amazing hosts, and made sure we felt at home in their beautiful house. Our bedrooms were very comfortable and tastefully furnished. Jessica cooked us a superb breakfast every morning, made with fresh, organic ingredients. All of us, including our 8 and 6 year old grand children(who had come from London) were truly impressed. The location is very convenient, and one has easy access to great shops and restaurants.
We highly recommend this historic brownstone mansion for a memorable stay in NY.

About
We are thrilled to welcome people into our family house (and we love to make breakfast! ). It's just the kind of place that we would want to stay if we were visiting New York! We enjoy meeting interesting, creative and passionate people from around the world and sharing our love of Brooklyn and New York City with them -- the history, food, art, architecture, and music. What we offer is a room in a beautiful house. We are relaxed and welcoming. We ask that our guests make themselves at home (and we do all we can to make them as comfortable as possible). Staying with us is like staying with friends or family (who can cook well). We do not have locks on room doors (although we do fully respect our guest's privacy). This is not a hotel or a bed and breakfast "business" (no teddy bears or pot pourri). It is sometimes elegant and sometimes casual. We like vintage furniture, street art, local food, and all kinds of music ... an urban sensibility. It's 'real life' in this house -- we have dogs who are enthusiastic greeters, teenagers who are in and out and friends who stop by. That said, we try really hard to make each guest's stay wonderfully memorable. Please read our reviews. We have had amazing guests!
