Description

The Space

While this private room is part of a bigger house, it is separated from the main house and has its own private entrance and bathroom with shower. It's been remodeled recently with Spanish tile, unique tile design, french doors and garden patio. The room is just right for two people, comfy for one. But you'll want to spend most of your time in the South Park village two blocks away shopping, dining, sightseeing, or biking around the local San Diego sights.

You have coffee and snack bars for free in your room. The local coffeeshops and restaurants will provide all you need otherwise. Balboa Park, the world's largest cultural park is an easy walk or bike ride or drive away. We have a fat tire bike to lend, and there's a bike rental place that has great prices and delivers to rent other bikes.

There is no TV provided in the room. But we do have a small fridge to put your leftovers.

Because the guests have their own entrance, we don't see them unless we pass in the garden, coming and going. The patio is for the guests only. But we are always nearby for questions or emergencies. And we are happy to make suggestions for dinner or sightseeing or anything else.

South Park is the hottest and hippest 'hood in San Diego. It's a tight community where we all know one another. Plenty of restaurants of every variety and size, from gluten-free to Belgian, all delicious. All within a three block radius. The shops are unique and independently owned. It's a very dog-friendly neighborhood with lots of parks and open spaces.

The bus stop is three blocks away, and it goes directly downtown to more shops, the ferry to Coronado Island, movie theaters, the Gas Lamp district, convention center. Parking for our property is on the street, plentiful and free.

We do have a cat and a dog. They are not allowed, nor have ever been in the guest room and so it is allergen free. But they are happy to say hello, if you are a pet lover.

This is a smoke-free property.

Guest Access

The guests have a private entrance and no access to the main house. They have double french doors on one side and two large windows on the other. They have their own private bath. The airbnb room is separated enough from the main house that it's quiet and private for everyone.

Interaction with Guests

We don't see our guests except if we run into them in the garden path coming and going from the back of the house. We respect their privacy and hope they feel the quiet room is a nice respite away from the hustle and bustle of the city. But we do live on the property, so we are available for emergencies or questions or directions, or even just to chat.

The Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is the coolest and hippest in San Diego right now. You can walk within three blocks to anything you would need: restaurants, shops, grocery, bike shop, coffee, pubs, wine, music, books, and more. I hope our guests take full advantage of our village and walk around and check out all there is to see.

Getting Around

The bus stop is 3 blocks away and the bus goes directly to downtown and the Gaslamp District in 15 minutes. At the end of the bus route, you can walk a few blocks and catch the ferry to Coronado Island or walk around the harbor. Also, Little Italy is just a few blocks away as well, and offers some wonderful restaurants and shops as well.

Other Things to Note

Please note that while we do try to accommodate our guests to the best of our ability, this isn't a hotel, so we do need to know a good estimate of your arrival and departure times. This helps us coordinate your schedule with ours. This is just as we would expect from any other guests or friends who were staying in our home, so we can make certain the room is ready and that we are home when you arrive. Thank you so much for your cooperation.

I'm a tried and true Southern Californian. I like fresh air and bike rides and hikes and trips to the farmer's market on my fat tire bicycle. I am an author and teacher. My partner and I travel to places where we can hike and ride our bikes, usually Italy or France. We like to be comfortable and have nice accommodations and hosts, good pillows and the like. I also am a savory pie baker, not so much the sweet pies, but I like a good hearty comfort food pie. They somehow make everything in life better.
