A beautiful one-hundred year old Richard Sharp Smith historic home in Montford neighborhood. 3 blocks from the center of town, 5-15 minute walk to everything. Hot tub, high speed wi-fi and cable tv, outdoor spaces for relaxation, gourmet kitchen.
You will be staying in the "Blue Room". This is downstairs next to the "Green Room". Those two rooms share the Mauve bathroom. This home is a quick 5 minute walk from the center of downtown. This historic neighborhood is peaceful, yet only a short walk to all the fun activities downtown. Fantastic restaurants nearby, the Pritchard Park drum circle, the US Cellular Center, and St. Lawrence Basilica are only three blocks away. We are a 5 minute drive from UNCA.. You won't need to move your car once you are settled in, unless you decide to go to the Biltmore Estate and Biltmore Village, 10 minutes away. Easy access to the Blue Ridge parkway, NC Arboretum, Folk Art Center and much more!
This calendar reflects the reservations for the "Blue Room". The Blue room is downstairs next to the "Green Room" and is available for instant book. It has one queen bed and shares the mauve bathroom with the Green room. The Green Room next door has a comfy queen bed and shares a bathroom with the Blue Room. You can book the Green room by visiting " Victorian Cottage Downtown Green Room". All rooms have room air conditioners, high speed wi-fi, access to outdoor hot tub (bring bathing suits!), fire pit, gas and charcoal grills. We have a "roll-away" bed for one extra guest. You may use the kitchen to cook if you wish, but I will provide teas, coffee and fresh pastries from my sister's bakery!. There are some amazing places to eat within a 5-minute walk.
Interaction with Guests
Now that we have received "SuperHost" status, we will do everything to keep that honor. I have a really easy-going manner and love to laugh and have fun! Lots of nice people moving through, but yet a very mellow place. You are free to come and go as you please and basically just feel at home. I will be happy to help you with whatever your needs are, and I have a supply of maps and brochures and suggestions to make the most of your visit. I do teach afternoon music lessons (flute/voice/ piano) Monday - Thursday.
I love the beautiful old historic homes in this Montford neighborhood. My house dates from circa 1912, termed a "Victorian cottage", and built by Richard Sharp Smith. Many of the homes in the neighborhood date from the 1880's. This Victorian neighborhood was the first suburb of Asheville. It is very quiet and friendly. Lots of beautiful walking opportunities around the neighborhood.
We are happy to do shuttles to and from airport and around town if needed for a small fee. The city bus stops near the house, but the house is so conveniently located that you will hardly need the public transportation.
Other Things to Note
Please park on the Elizabeth st side. Also, the day of your arrival, a general ETA is very much appreciated!
I have two small short-haired kitties, Sebastian and Sasha, real sweet and mellow. They stay outside most of the time and are never allowed in guest rooms for those who might be slightly allergic. I have had several guests stay who are allergic to cats and have had no adverse reactions.
LGBTQ and straight-friendly.
Hair dryer, iron and ironing board available upon request, outdoor hot tub, outdoor screen room, patio with pergola, outdoor fire pit, gas and charcoal grills, flower, herb and vegetable gardens.
Smoking outside only. No drugs, drinking ok if of age.
Rita's Victorian cottage was in a beautiful quiet neighborhood very close to downtown Asheville. She and her husband Jeff made me feel very welcome, and explained all of the "house rules" in detail. My room was extremely comfortable and it was just as pictured. The rest of the house was filled with a kind of old soul charm which I loved. I had a delightful chat with Rita, and wish I could have stayed a bit longer. I will definitely be back!
Rita was very welcoming and helpful. She was also happy to offer advice about restaurants and sites around Asheville. The bathroom and kitchen were well supplied and we were made to feel at home.
I really enjoyed my stay at your place. You were very attentive and helpful to any of the questions that I presented. You totally went above and beyond to help me get to tour the Biltmore....
Your place was just perfect for me. Comfortable room, easy access to the bathroom and easy kitchen use. I also enjoyed your hot tub....eased all of those tight muscles! Additionally....getting picked up at the airport was SOOOOO helpful. Jeff was very friendly and pleasant to chat with both at the house and during the transport.
Walking distance to almost everyplace I needed to go in Ashville was just ideal from your place. I would recommend your bnb to fellow travelers. Thank you again for a lovely time in Ashville.
All the best,
My 9 year old daughter loved this trip- she played in the yard with some of Rita's students and met several neighbors. It is a more enriching way to travel and get to know the community. The house is beautiful and you feel like part if Rita and Jeff's circle of friends and family. If you're a light sleeper or early to bed person, bring earplugs.
We spent one night at Rita's while visiting Asheville for a birthday celebration. The house has so much character--we loved it! It was an easy walk to everything downtown which was perfect for us since we were visiting many of the breweries. What I loved most was that Rita allowed for us to stay just one night rather than the two night minimum so many other airbnb hosts require. Very convenient and if she'll have us we'll be back! :) The blue room was so cozy and neighborhood quiet! PS--the two resident kitties are adorable!
Our stay at Rita and Jeffs was all we could have dreamed of! Cozy home and very welcoming hosts, we couldn't have landed a better spot for our week in Asheville. Perfect location for walking downtown!
We had a wonderful stay in Ashville with Rita and Jeff: wonderful house, exellently situated wonderful hosts, wonderful City. All what we needed.

I am a professional musician. I teach private music lessons in my home and also do a lot of performing and am an adjunct professor of music. I love to travel, meet people and do fun things. I am proud of my town and am happy to help visitors find the best experience. I am really easy-going and have been renting rooms in my house for many years to people who need a place to stay for weeks, months or sometimes years. Guests will have a comfortable home away from home with easy flexibility within the house to come and go as you please. (must love music!)
