Interaction with Guests
When I'm around, there's nothing I like more than to engage with guests, sharing hints on where to go and what to see in the locality. Athlone is the centre of Ireland, so access is convenient to both Galway and Dublin, 4 miles from the West/East motorway M4/M6.
Ballinahown, is a small rural village in County Westmeath with three approach roads; Athlone, Ferbane and Clonmacnoise.
It is on the main road south from Athlone to Limerick (N62), and is the last small village in Westmeath as you travel to Ferbane (Offaly) and/or Clonmacnoise (Offaly). It is approximately six miles from Clonmacnoise and seven miles from Athlone and Ferbane.
Ballinahown is part of the West Offaly partnership area and is an active participant in their community programme.
Ballinahown is a very important village in Westmeath in terms of its strategic location; close to Clonmacnoise, and the Pilgrim Path (ancient roadway from Clonmacnoise & Durrow).
Ballinahown is in the hinterlands of Bord Na Mona’s peat production and also close to Mongan Bog. This bog is of International importance as it is a fine example of preserved raised bog and is located 2 miles outside the village on the Clonmacnoise road.
A car is necessary to enjoy the by-roads of rural Athlone and surrounding areas. There are trains and buses available from Athlone town for convenient travel to most towns / cities.
