The Central Room is located in the centre of Aberdeen in the 3rd floor of an old tenemant building. Its a 15 minute bus ride to either university and handy for shopping or as base for adventuring around Aberdeen! I also live in the flat.
The flat is within good walking distance of the train and bus stations, the main shopping centers and has good travel links to both the cities Universities. The flat sits on the 3rd floor of a tenemant building dating back to 1890 and it commands a great view over Holburn Street and is perfect for anyone wishing to get out and enjoy the sights.
The walls are adorned with various art works from music posters to screen prints by Obey, E Boy and many others. I have a keen interest in classical and modern art, especially graffiti.
The garden is a work in a progress at the moment but I'm hoping to have some communal benches and a fire pit finished in time for summer BBQ's.
Due to working Mon - Fri I can either let you in around lunch time or after 5pm. Late arrivals are fine and once your in you will be able to come and go as you please during your stay.
The room has a comfy double bed and storage space for belongings. The room is lockable for extra security. Wi-Fi access is available on request.
The bathroom is shared usage and is cleaned regularly. Shampoo, shower gel & fresh towels will be provided for you during your stay.
The kitchen is at your disposal so if your self catering feel free to buy groceries, fill the fridge and make use of the cooker but please be careful not to leave things switched on.
The living room has comfy sofas if you wish to relax, perhaps even pick a book from the book case or put on a film in the evening.
If you have a car and a penchant for surfing then you can borrow my 8ft longboard and go for a paddle in the North Sea. A full wetsuit will be required but I can put you in touch with a local surf shop for wet suit hire etc.
Interaction with Guests
I normally work Monday to Friday 9 to 5 but spend my evenings relaxing or working on art projects. I have a studio space in the loft so if you require help with anything I will be around at the weekends.
I'm happy to provide information about what to do in Aberdeen and where to go for day trips. I can help you plan your stay and make the most of what Aberdeen and the North East has to offer.
If your worried about getting to the flat then I can provide links to (website hidden) maps and if I am free will come and meet you at the station.
The flat is situated in a residential building in the city center. The bedrooms are at the rear of the property on the 3rd floor so weekend noise isn't a problem. I also live in the flat and will be around in the evenings.
Parking is available on street but spaces do tend to fill up quickly, there are no dedicated spaces.
Have a look at my Guidebook and you'll get an idea of what there is to see and do, where to eat and where to check out for some good beers!
The main bus & train stations are only a 15 minute walk from the flat. The flat is 2 minutes from Union Street where buses to all destinations can be boarded also.
Other Things to Note
There's no tv in the room your welcome to watch tv in the living room.
I keep a bottle of whisky in the room for guests to sample along with some locally brewed beers (Brewdog & 6D North) and for breakfast you can sample some Aberdeen Rowies (imagine a squashed croisant), normal croisants, tea or coffee & fresh apple juice.
No smoking in the flat!
If you have pets then we can discuss.
Please try to keep noise to a minimum after 10pm Sun - Thur and 3pm Fri - Sat.
I used Jon's flat to accommodate some musicians I had booked to play in Aberdeen. Jon couldn't have been more helpful! The flat is awesome and in a great central location. I would totally recommend anyone to stay here, Jon is a great host!
Jon is a really thoughtful host and I really appreciated the extra information he gave to make my journey and my stay easier. The flat's lovely, the bed's comfy and best of all is Jon's enthusiasm about the city. Brilliant!
Jon always makes on feel very welcome and is very accommodating to charges in requests at short notice. He even put up with me when i was ill for a day and basically had to stay in bed all day so may thanks to Jon for that.
Jon was a excellent host. His communication with me regarding the arrangements to pick up the flat keys was excellent. He was flexible on entry and departure times which was ideal.
The flat is in a great location near the centre of town.
The room was large, comfortable and clean and the flat was very homely.
The test for me is always, would I go back to stay...and the answer is 'yes' !!
I found Jon a most attentive and gracious host. He met me at the train station and directed me to the accommodation pointing out the highlights of Union Street as we passed. I would have no hesitation staying with Jon again. Many thanks. George
When me and my friend arrived in Aberdeen, Jon met us at the bus station, and followed us to his place which was very nice. When he told us to feel at home, we really did. His apartment was cosy and clean, and he had some cool friends over the first night that we had a really nice chat with.
Jon had also made this nice booklet of all his recommendations in the nearest part of the city that was in great help for us. The last day we went out and ate breakfast together, and he even took us on a walk in the city, and showed us some great places to visit before leaving Aberdeen.
To stay at Jon´s place a few days was like visiting a good friend, we did some hangouts a few evenings and enjoyed each others company, our stay in Aberdeen was just amazing, thanks to him :)
Jon is the consummate host! So friendly and helpful although we ended up arriving three hours later than we thought. Then he also helped us find a restaurant which involved him walking round Aberdeen with us as everywhere was fully booked. His flat is beautiful with lovely wooden floors and the bed is large and comfy. Wifi is available and we really enjoyed our Buttery breakfast.
Creative and fun with an interest in the local and international art scene with a special interest in graffiti and street art.
I've lived in Aberdeen my whole life and have a good idea about whats happening with gigs and exhibitions so I can recommend a ton of things to do in the city and some really cool historical sites beyond Aberdeen.
I've been skateboarding on and off for 15 years so if you want to explore the city on 4 wheels or even 2 then it can be arranged.
Aberdeen is a great city and looks beautiful in the summer time, lots of great bars and restaurants but its good to have someone in the know as even though the city is small its not always easy to find what your looking for.
If your staying with me then you can expect a nice clean flat and a bottle of wine or some speciality beers upon your arrival :)
