My daughter and myself stayed one night in this beautiful oasis. I wish we had planned to stay longer. Emma and her husband are lovely, genteel people who welcome you into their home like you are family. A short drive to Pompeii, a 15' walk to the Herculaneum and great restaurants. View the sea and Mt.Vesuvius from the rooftop terrace. I will definitely return and have Emma cook dinner. I hear it is fabulous.

The Host was very nice and the Room was very beautiful. We got every morning a very nice and typical Italian breakfast. Every day the room gets cleaned up and rearranged. The large garden can also be used for relaxing. Unfortunately, we had no Wi-Fi in our room, but only in the lounge, which can be used by all guests. The location of the hotel is very central. You can easily reach Naples, Herculeaneum and Pompeii. Thank you for the nice stay.

Wow, what a place! The villa is everything you expect: art on the wall, beautiful high ceiling rooms and a lovely common area with free wifi. The location is up the hill as described, but still close to some nice restaurants and walking distance to Ercolano Scavi. As this is short distance from the train station it is also a great location to make your base to visit Naples, Pompeii, Vesuvius and other sights in the area. If you are worried about the proximity to the main road on the map when you look at this place, DON'T BE! The rooms were super quiet and the villa rooftop is a great place to chill and watch the city lights of Naples at night... We even got lucky and saw some fireworks further up Vesuvius during our night stay.

The villa and the decoration was very nice and the view from the roof terrace was quite impressive. The hosts were friendly and there is wifi in the communal area but not in the rooms. The area is quite run down and the pavements almost as non-existent as the driving laws. The metro that circles Vesuvius is dire and a pickpocket heaven . There is a nice local pizzeria/restaurant that the hosts recommend but avoid the cafes in the main road near the Archeological site which are Tourist Traps. Herculaneum is an incredible experience, relatively well preserved and quiet; an insightful step back in time. The Pompei site, on the other hand, was a bit of a nightmare, although a bigger site it was massively overcrowded with tourists. There were a great many loud and inconsiderate (mostly school age) tour groups each 20-30 strong crammed into the better sites and blocking the narrow roads. The return shuttle bus to the car park below the volcano crater trail only allowed time for a rapid climb and a very brief glimpse from the top before a scramble down again. It would have been nice to be able to follow the path around the crater and enjoy the panoramic view.

We were made to feel extremely welcome throughout our short stay in this luxurious and beautiful house. We were provided with a detailed map and clear guidance about local amenities including the best Gelateria (!!) and details of how to visit the local sites of Herculaneum (within walking distance) , Pompieii and Vesuvius. It was reassuring to be able to park off the busy road and in their driveway which was locked with metal gates. The house was very easy to find, being quite close to the Autostrada, and it was a calm oasis in a relatively urban area. Emma and family were delightful and the evening meal she cooked was absolutely delicious, as was the breakfast 'banquet'! We were made to feel very special, and thoroughly recommend this as an excellent place to stay.

My mother and I spent a delightful stay at Villa San Gennariello. The stunning hunting pavilion of the Bourbon is beautifully decorated, set in a gorgeous garden, has a great roof terrace overlooking Naples Bay and the Vesuvio. A unique place in Portici to be appreciated for a few days. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Emma, Her husband and Fernando their son are amazing hosts. Friendly, interesting, exquisite, curious and generous people! Emma prepares a delicious breakfast and diner upon request. I highly recommend this place for a relaxing retreat away from Naples buzz and close to the antique excavations and the Amalfi Coast. I would definitely come back!

The actual villa and the hosts were great. (Although the breakfast wasn't up to expectations). The room was big and comfy. There was a birthday going on on be ground floor that night so it was quite noisy on the first floor where our room was, when keeping the windows opened. The hosts nicely offered to pick us up from the station at our arrival but we decided to arrive by taxi. We thus asked him is he could give us a ride back to the station when we left which he nicely accepted. I hate to be negative but I need to strongly warn you about the area. It is pretty desolated there. It is a former prolific town that has progressively slipped into physical and economical decay since the Italian unification. Another guest we met on be balcony cleverly described the area something resembling mad max...which is a bit exaggerated for junior purpose but describe pretty well our impression when arriving. I Would describe It as a Balkanic city in the 90's: trash bagseverywhere, ghost town in the evening for the odd group of man standing around with dogs and mopeds near by graffitis with political a slogan everywhere. Not great. The taxi driver was surprised that we had picked portici for our first time in Napoli. We were glad we had only booked for one night and were quite amused by the situation. We were very reassured and felt much safer after we passed the gates of the incredible villa San genneriello (shockingly beautiful in any context but especially for the area). We were taken to our beautiful room and the host suggested us to walk to a nearby restaurant that was really great and elegant (very surprising again for the area) and extremely good value. We ate like king and queen and paid only 30euros (!!). Anyway to recommend if you want to visit the nearby Herculanum but otherwise it is not exactly the best area for a pied a terre as a base to visit the region. Unless you're fearless and don't mind a bit of Neapolitan roughness, which I appreciate could have its charm.
